Yeah brannigan is just straight out fun to watch, and Judy Gleason long before the likes of today pushing for " inclusion" bullshit she had a staring and starting roll
A mellow and feel-the-action of the early 1970's cop shows and movie flicks. I like this score! It has Elmer Bernstein "character style" written into it...with Elmer's orchestrated styling that had made him sought after in epic movies. The third to the last John Wayne made movie, this showed that Wayne still had style. Thanks Fred for a good score to enjoy.
In 1974 John Wayne starred in the John Sturges cool-cop movie McQ. And as cool as Wayne and Character McQ, Elmer Bernstein's score follows as a worthy partner. Enjoy!
Einfach erstklassig!
1974: The Duke does jazz with this soundtrack. Wayne was rarely comfortable in contemporary roles, going back to the 30's and 40's, but agreed to make a couple of these kinds of films; this for Warners (and "Brannigan" for UA) as Westerns began a decline caused by burnout. He was given a script that transitioned the 'John Wayne' persona to city life, and it worked. But Wayne was 67, and even he knew the end was near.
He did for the 1967's Thoroughly Modern Millie score. Here you can watch him win the statute, followed by the great Alfred Newman and Ken Darby getting (once again) a price! th-cam.com/video/ifxQE2Rgcvk/w-d-xo.html
If Lalo were to have done this it would have that "sound" that unfolds as only Schifrin would have done it. It is easy to be derivative and make use of composing and orchestration voicings and "mechanisms", but knowing how to *"juxtapose"* is what Schifrin has, and that was one of Schifrins favorite self-descriptions.
Duke Wayne’s cool son Michael wanted to drag his Daddy into the modern 70’s so he obviously gave faithful Elmer the signal (if it were needed) to Update his Daddy’s latest ‘74 Flicker with a flavor of , at that time the worlds most acclaimed movie composer ‘the awesome Argentinian Lalo Schifrin-flying highest of all after the blockbuster success of 1969’s ‘Bullitt’s Score which some might inaccurately claim too Slightly low key but is Simply Imperious!, aswell as the unequalled ‘Mission Impossible’ theme ! Beyond Awesome Pilgrim! The fact that Duke Wayne, took an avuncular fondness of the upstart ‘’Cooler-King-McQueen’s vast success on the back of Elmer Bernstein’s Genius ‘Mag7’& ‘Great Escape’ themes which sealed ‘the Kid’s’ Star status and Lalo’ ‘Bullitt’ Theme Cemented S.McQueen’s as a permanent star of our firmament. Even Duke’s title was a semi-Copy of ‘the Kids’ real name. So son Michael W. Really was truly on the money with this masterfully 70’s updated Lalo-Vibed ‘McQ’-Theme which most Normal Dudes think is Uber-Awesome. Go Elmer ya little Genius!! The Hell u are Stryker!
Great in every aspect, McQ borned on the wake of Bullitt with McQueen (that's why they put Mc in the title) but was in no way inferior to Bullitt or Callahan. The final car chase on the beach was something I would like to see made today without CGI.
In 1975 c b s Wanted to do a tv show like blue bloods with john wayne a family of police officers. He ask about it he said no thank you however that idea was used on tv show blue bloods.
@@specialreconnaissanceregim3656 I would like to have seen Wayne as Dirty Harry, and although it's a great film, I think Wayne would have been better. But... the many drafts it went through, perhaps, most likely Eastwood was correct about.
Along With Dirty Harry produced By Warner Bros directed John Sturges who made The Mag 7 and Great Escape with Steve Mcqueen and the Jazz score by the great Elmer Bernstein works for 1974 cop movies and of course the star is John Wayne
When I hear this I think of Wayne... it's just a great theme. I wish the movie had been better, he could have had a franchise at least as good as Dirty Harry was.
This really excellent music for what was essentially a poorly done Dirty Harry rip-off. Almost as good as Lalo Schifrin's score. With better writing and fewer extras, this could have been an excellent film.
Perfect mood for John Wayne, unbelievable masterpiece, non plus ultra theme 12:49
Absolute perfection
As far as I'm concerned, Bernstein should've won the Oscar for this soundtrack!!!
Agreed!
I agree, too. I just listened to the soundtrack of »Bullit« and I really believe that Bernstein's soundtrack is far superior to that one.
Totally worth the Music Oscar..it’s a Musical Masterpiece! U-Bet-cha!
And today this movie is on TV broadcast network MOVIES. 8 August 2022
Today 8 Aug 2022 and the McQ movie is on TV...

Bernstein was a fantastic and versatile movie composer. I gotta watch the film too.

Another great upload, Fred! Ihre Arbeit ist IMMER hervorragend!
Did Bernstein ever win an Oscar? If not he should have. His score for Hawaii is one of the all time greats

Bellissima musica !
This is pretty awesome, just came on in the background while I was working on something else.
True detective score, very funky like 70's is crime music score, shit is great for a John Wayne crime thriller, kudos to Elmer.
CLASSY DRIVING MUSIC
spray and sand
many thanks soundtrack fred did not know you could get a sound track film score of mcq many thanks allan .
There was a bit of the Lalo Schifrin vibe in Bernstein's score... cool
Totally
He might even have out-Lalo Schifrined Lalo Schifrin here. Great score.

Good
Movie,Dam good music!
The 13 that voted down were Santiago's men, who later got wasted by the Duke with his engram M10 machine pistol
Fantastic jazzy soundtrack, bit of 70s Shaft theme in there somewhere. I saw the movie in the cinema...very entertaining modern cop story.
Today the movie is on TV broadcast channel MOVIES
I started watching _The Rat Race_ a few moments ago and couldn't get past the opening titles before "It's McQ. It's Bernstein."
top of the TOP, like traveling back to the 1970's.
Best theme ever 0:29
I live south of Seattle so of course I love this!
Great in every aspect, McQ borned on the wake of Bullitt with McQueen (that's why they put Mc in the title) but was in no way inferior to Bullitt or Callahan. The final car chase on the beach was something I would like to see made today without CGI.
McQ is a Dirty Harry Rip off.
Still a great movie tho.
Best movie ever other than Eldorado

thanks for that Oscar clip!
help i'm up to my but in movies
Good movies had good soundtrack music .
Dirty Harry was offered to J. Wayne first, but he felt the character wasn't right for his image.
In 1971, the Duke would've been 64 yrs old. Too old to play a gung-ho cop.
@@specialreconnaissanceregim3656 I would like to have seen Wayne as Dirty Harry, and although it's a great film, I think Wayne would have been better. But... the many drafts it went through, perhaps, most likely Eastwood was correct about.
Quite a few actors were offered the role before Clint Eastwood (Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra included).
Since the 1970s were the age of cop shows, John Wayne starred in the police dramas-MCQ and BRANNIGAN.
Plenty of true grit in this music and in brigde over ramargan
One phase from pelham 123 (D. Shire) 1'08''. But typical and great theme from early '70.
I'm wrong... Mc Q movie irelease :Januar 74 and The take of Pehlam 123 movie release october '74.
1974 50 anos
Sounds like the score to the taking of Pelham 123 or the other way round, whichever came first.
How is the transition from "Sign Up" to "Garden Party" so smooth...
The duke and many others who worked on his movies missed out on a lot of award,s including Mr Oscar
Baretta polis filmi dizisine benzer mi bu John Wayne dizisi?
Hal Blaine on drums?
If u r a deep observer of a true music interest can definetly see the symptoms of the music of The Greatest Escape of Steve McQueen in lead role
👌
