“The Good, The Bad And The Ugly” (1966), is considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made - rightfully so. Directed by Sergio Leone, the third installment of the “Dollar Trilogy” tops everything in size, featuring Clint Eastwood, Lee van Cleef and (especially) Eli Wallach in top form!
The music, known by everybody, was composed by Leone’s friend and (favorite) collaborator, Ennio Morricone. The composer provided the musical signature for the protagonists (interestingly the same, but performed by different instruments and inspired by the call of a coyote).
By the film's release, a short stereo soundtrack album was put out, which saw countless re-releases over the years. Through the days of the compact disc, some releases received a little expansion by a handful of mono tracks.
It would take until 2020 when the complete (mono) sessions were found and put on two CDs. Thanks to the hands of the people at Quartet Records the score is not only finally complete but sounds better than ever. As a bonus, the first generation stereo masters of the original album presentation were remastered as well and put on a third disc - sounding terrific!
So, here is Morricone’s “big one”. To have everything in top form, we took the pristine stereo tracks of the Main Titles and the Ecstasy Of Gold instead of the (nevertheless great sounding) mono elements, to give you the best possible experience. Enjoy!
2nd best western music of all time... 1st a few more dollars...
Morricone was unrivaled in western music!!!
My Name is Nobody gets in the top 3 for me from Morricone.
Hello, Fred! An entire genre of cinema defined in a whistle that doesn't last three seconds. Honored and parodied in cartoons, TV commercials, short films, rock bands ( Metallica, since 1983 ) and other films ( " Innerspace ", 1987, by Goldsmith). It's simply the greatest western soundtrack of all time, and if Morricone had only written this one and nothing else, it would have been enough to become a legend. Thanks and bye!!
A true classic - I love Morricone and this is one of his best. Thank you for sharing!.
Thanks Fred for the new version❤🤠
Great Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone ❤👏🏻
Old Clint is invincible.💪🏻 Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach are equally great.👏🏻
Research: Picaresque and epic, very long and messy, full of memorable images and lines: "Every gun has its voice, and I know this one." The final three-way duel was memorable.
There are mountains of curiosities, anecdotes, background stories, quotes and parodies about the "Dollars Trilogy", but I prefer to report what was the hypothesis of a sequel.
Sergio Leone had no intention of making other westerns and with the following "Once Upon A Time In The West" he claims to close the genre. However, Leone's long-time screenwriter, Luciano Vincenzoni, has stated several times that he has written the screenplay for a sequel, "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly No. 2" set about 20 years after the original film. The script was still in its embryonic stage, but Vincenzoni had contacted the main characters.
Eli Wallach in fact gave some hints regarding the plot of the alleged sequel: «Tuco is still looking for that son of a bitch. And he discovers that Blonde has been killed. But his nephew is still alive, and knows where the treasure is hidden. So Tuco decides to chase him." (Eli Wallach)
Clint Eastwood himself, having learned of the sequel, made himself available to take care of the production and act as narrator for the film, respecting the future of his old character.
Joe Dante was contacted to direct and Sergio Leone was supposed to be the co-producer of the film.
However, despite the premises, the film did not come to fruition, as Leone himself was not at all in agreement with making another western, and did not give permission to use the title and characters.
BRAVO from Mexico City......(Tuco of 'Breaking Bad' agrees)
Wife says one of the best film scores ever! Her Dad had the LP in the sixties and she would rock to it on her rocking horse from Sears! (Still does when nobody's around LOL) Many thanks!!!
My name is Nobody check it out brilliant soundtrack
@@mick6370 Thanks, will do!
One the best of maestro Morricone:thanks very much!
Always a favorite. Right up there with The Magnificent Seven as both a film and a score. Two different approaches - both equally beautiful and haunting in their own ways. Thanks Fred. You should check out "The Spaghetti Western Orchestra." They have a great take on the maestro.
Thanks Morlock! The Spaghetti Western Orchestra once performed in the Royal Albert Hall and I have seen that performance about three times online over the years. Fun!
But I don't think Morricone didn't like much what they did. Especially their name as he considered the phrase "Spaghetti Western" to be insulting, which I absolutely understand from the view of an Italian.
Ennio Morricone! I’m in!
Thank you for this upload. Amazing music and film from the soundtrack.
