    This is really grear! You’ve made it properly clear what you’re doing which is much appreciated. I’m a single mum building my extension completely on my own so this is fantastic info

    Brilliant work. What specialist did you get to draw up the plans and are they easy to follow? I intend to extend my single sory extension and add a second story to it. I just hope the foundations are deep enough ad it was build pre 80s.

    • @RealDIYbuild
      @RealDIYbuild  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jay, We didn't have plans, just the idea. If it is 'permitted development' you don't need to supply plans. I think a second story will need detailed drawings from an architect, and you might need a building inspector to check the foundations. Good luck with it! 👍

    Cracking job, noticed you stuck with the jig for spreading the mortor did it make things easier but slower?

    • @RealDIYbuild
      @RealDIYbuild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly right Sunit, It is much more accurate (for a beginner) but slow. Later on we were going 50:50 between the 'Bricky-pro' and just a trowel, and the trowel was 3 times quicker. I do believe that the jig helped us learn by taking out the problem of getting it level and getting the gauge right at the start. Towards the very end, we didn't need it. 👍

      @@RealDIYbuild can I ask one other question, the cavity return from the inner skin to the outer is that done from the very start? Or only when you meet ground lever for the door opening

    • @RealDIYbuild
      @RealDIYbuild  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sunitpatel5683 Just 1 block at the opening, the wall is complete below that. It just means you dont have a cavity to worry about in the doorway.

    "constructive criticisms" dont use a tiny level on each brick all that does is levels 1 brick a string line along the top course will will keep your line straight, your motar guide gives you a consistant depth of motar thickness but pre doing a full wall in advance is really bad the motar looses water to the brick below the sun will dry the top layer and and placing the bricks onto it wont allow them to be bedded which will cause them to fail down the road, adding motar for 2 bricks at a time is enough for any learner. these remarks are not made to offend just to help.

    I'm so glad you're making these videos.
    I'm about to start my DIY extension project in the Netherlands. Regulations seem so far very similar.
    Question about the cavity wall: I've seen now a few videos where the cavity wall is fully filled with Rockwool. Do cavity walls require some air space or is that a thing of the past due to these insulation materials being water proof?
    Keep up with the awesome work!

    • @RealDIYbuild
      @RealDIYbuild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can do either 'full fill' or partial fill. If you do partial fill ensure the insulation is held against the outside leaf of the wall. The rockwool and glasswool are water proof and the important bit is that they don't 'wick' so driving damp wont travel across from the outer wall to the inner wall. Good luck with your project :) 👍

    So obvious these guys aren't good old english builders.
    Not wearing shorts.
    No suntanning going on.
    Not covered in tats
    Not smoking rollies
    Only one of them is wearing white trainers.
    But the biggest give away is that they seem more concerned about the quality of the work they are producing rather than the sharpness of their haircuts

    When you use that mortar spread thing dont go all the way along use it bit by bit as the mortar will go off and not get a good bond to the bricks. Wouldnt recomend it as a bricky as the holes wont be filled enough to create a strong enough hold on the extension

    • @stevendunn5430
      @stevendunn5430 ปีที่แล้ว

      Needs to be like lego if thats is a comparison you can relate to. Holding into something so to speak

    • @brickbybric
      @brickbybric ปีที่แล้ว

      Brick manufacturers put holes ( voids ) in bricks to use less materials in the manufacturing of the bricks to save money . If what your saying was true solid brick or block wouldn’t bond together.

    Recommend you use a longer level

      Thanks Michael, we have been using 4 in total, from 250mm to 1800mm depending on what we are doing. It's always good to get good advice though. 👍

    Hi Chaps, looks brilliant. I too am building one, up to windowsill height so far. In your doorway, I see your lower DPM goes up and over the outer leaf (as there is no inner leaf). Do you intend to lay the DPC roll over the top, or under it? Does it need sealing together if overlapping? Or do we remove both and use the UPVC door sill as the DPC and run the DPM as an unstand behind the sill? I can't find any clear details about this anywhere. TIA.
