How To Use Wall Ties Correctly

  • We are back on the two new build houses that we have been tackling on weekends.
    Do you use the correct wall tie size for your cavity? If you don't then your work is not compliant.
    We wrap the 3rd lift round and start the 4th lift blockwork. Been feeling a bit disillusioned with some of the content I have seen on TH-cam lately so I have tried to bring a few hints and tips rather than negativity.
    Fed up with comments and videos about what can't be done or this method is bad or this won't work.
    People who take the time to create content should be encouraged. For the life of me I don't know what some people get from being so negative.
    We are all on our own journey, and mistakes get made. As Del Boy would say its just a dropped stitch in lifes tapestry.
    Keep on trucking everyone.

      Cheap skate 😂 technically the cavity tie is redundant if there isn’t minimum 50mm embedment each skin so if cavity creeps it could be a lot more than expensive than a few ties! I’d make sure I covered it with an email or something requesting bigger ties to cover your ass 👍🏻

    • @Tone_Team

    • @Tone_Team

      It’s not natural stone, like you said it’s basically crushed up concrete. We do a bit of natural stone but not that much round here, certainly not very common on our big sites as it’s quite slow and labour intensives. This type of stone is quite popular round these parts

      The correct answer is actually that it depends on manufacture’s installation guide. Manufacturers installation guides always supersede NHBC or other warranties providers specifications but people never look at them. Most brickies take what the building inspector says for granted. I bet most brickies are installing stone cills incorrectly to! Thanks for stopping by Changy 👍🏻

    • @edskapin7171
      @edskapin7171 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Tone_Team Instead of wire ties wire type flat steel 1 inch wide by 7 inch deep galvanized is a better stronger tie. Embedding the corrugated tie into your mortar joint in block sticking out to also embed in brick makes a stronger wall system. There are even more stronger heavier ties available that tie the two walls together. We are not allowed to use wire ties in North America because they are not strong enough. It is part of building code for residentual and commercial work. I know UK uses 4 inch block for load bearing walls. It is not allowed here,

    The cavity-wall-tie should be the other way up than what you show ! There SHOULD be a LARGE air-space GAP in-between the face of the cavity-wall insulation BATTs and the OUTER WALL inside the cavity ; this ALSO includes an air-space GAP in-between the face of the cavity-wall insulation batts and the cavity-wall-tie drip point-which should be in the centre of the cavity. Ask N.V.Q. BRICKWORK teachers for PROOF of this ! With the cavity-wall being bridged with insulation (insulation touching the outer walls), damp will travel from the outer wall through the bridging insulation to the inner wall !
