You've got a good and conscientious mechanic there! There's a great quote from another farming channel: "I stopped buying new equipment because it broke down as frequently as my old equipment and cost ten times as much to fix". Keep up the maintenance, shed when storing over the winter, and do good repairs that machinery will last and cost very little.

Thanks for the shout out. Believe it or not I was a electrical control technician by trade but I like wrenching on stuff. Your right about the massey 1105 it was one of the better masseys the hydraulic system was way better than the later models. I have had my 1135 for 30 years. I had to split right after I got it because splines stripped out for pto on flywheel have used it ever since. I do prefer my Ford’s a little better but the hydraulics on that tractor where phenomenal!!

Grew up driving Massey’s 60’s ,70’s . And have one today. I run a 34 year old Massey Ferguson 1990 3070 93hp, it can do the same job as my son’s new 2023 JD 5090E same hp. I have two other tractors a JD 5320 64hp and a IMT 539 39 hp. I have ran many different Massey’s 14 different models in all. They are good tractors and well worth the money to keep them up and running, just like any brand you use them you got to keep them up like my JD 5320 great tractors but I’ve put 10,300 hrs on it. And put a lot of money into it to keep it going. It cheaper than buying a new one. Same with my Massey and IMT.

I agree with farming out wrenching beyond your skill set. Too many folks start tearing things up and end up screwing things up more….You are right about Mr. Obie Acres-he is amazing and enjoys a challenge. It was my Ford 7600 he put the AC in!! Lucky to have him as both a friend and a neighbor.

Never heard of cleaning the fluid like that before most people would’ve just drained everything and put new fluid in my harmonic balancer I sent out to some old Timer in Oregon that rebuilt it yeah I heard you can’t buy the Kranks for those tractors anymore at least not from Perkins

The head CEOs that were running the Company all got killed in a jet accident And that started the company and a downhill spiral I know a couple guys that used to be engineers for Massey They were making them here in Michigan back in the day

Good catch on the O ring! Many wouldn't have seen that until the windshield was oiled.
Always a good idea to let someone else do the repairs you either can't, or don't have the time for.
You are thankful for the mechanic because he can work on things that you design, yet you can't work on what you design.. as a mechanic, I must say, yup.. you're an engineer.. lol.. I do badmouth most engineers. I've even explained issues to JD engineers that they later fixed.. I've redesigned a lot of engineering disasters. Just don't take any of that personally. (BTW, my sister in law is an engineer too..I give her 💩 all the time.)

Ha! As an engineer, when someone is explaining something to me and then says, “I’m an engineer”, all kinds of 🚨🚨🚨’s go off in my mind…🙂. I’ll have a video sometime on my prospective of engineering at some point which you might find interesting. Take care!

@@HumbleHaymakers I'm sure you have a clue!! Most engineers have never held a wrench, nor seen the finished product up close. I'm sure you have cussed others just as much as most mechanics..lol

On our 1135 the caps around the pump were leaking so we had to pull the pump out. Not a fun job but luckily my brother is a mechanic. We had to remove the radiator and possibly loosen the front end to bring it out the top.
Massey's are not too fun to prime fuel either.
