I don't follow the Meadowlands much anymore, but I do remember in the 80s you had more of the same group of claimers running against each other every week (not sure it's like that today with shippers going in and out) and the one thing I loved was there seemed to be more claimers that went on streaks up the claiming ladder, like Fly Fly Jules, Ambro Splurge, I think Tuff Choice was another. My Favorite all time horse was the blue collar workhorse, GUTS. Only horse to beat On the Road again Twice in one day in the 1984 Oliver Wendell Holmes series. OK, I'll stop spewing about the good old days!

Beatcha underrated horse. .was fast and really more a half mile track specialist. .A now retired Niatross beats these every time tho some from his crop as does Cam Fella and a baby named Ralph Hanover..

I think I was at the track for everyone of Beatcha's races that year , very gutsy horse , referred to as the Lasix monster in the local sports papers at the time . Ghengis Kahn was a great free for all pacer , Ghengis made a strong brush third quarter of this race , deep stretch thought Beatcha had him but sadly , that late break cost him the win .

I remember the down under wonder San Simeon never made the third leg, just wasn't as good as they though, but this race reminded me of one several years later when It's Fritz broke stride right near the wire to be beat by Cam Fella. The 1980's early 1990's the Big M was the best.

I saw the races with San Simeon , he was an impressive looking horse , his first start he was hopelessly locked in on the rail and never had a chance to get out in the stretch , .....I think the local riders didn't want San Simeon to win at any cost , second start was similar ,San Simeon got clear in late stretch , but he just had too much ground to make up. I think the trainer driver was so frustrated he just pulled him from the final leg.

I saw that race with cam fella and it's fritz too ...... it's fritz did not go off stride he just ran out of gas after his idiot driver used him way too hard in the third quarter , that race is on youtube so you can check it out if you like ..... Ideal Tanner got up for second.....but if John Campbell or Bill Odonnell had driven It's Fritz , he would have beaten Cam Fella easily .

you're correct, I must have had brain freeze! I do remember I had the exacta with Ideal Tanner and Mike Gagliardi got second as you mentioned paying $42.00. Not bad!

I hit that exacta too , I figured one of the top 2 would be off the board ,and Ideal tanner looked great warming up . I think it was Carl Allen driving It's Fritz that night , had he just stayed in the pocket till the top of the stretch he could have beaten Cam Fella that night. fun times back then :)

Beatcha wins if he doesn't break.

I had my last $8.00 on this cold exacta that won by a hair when Beatcha avoided being lapped on. Paid $14.00 for $2.00. I went home a winner!
