Tarport Hap died in a race at Meadowlands and is the only horse buried there.

Obviously, this was run early in the evening as it was still daylight when this was run and one of the few races at Roosevelt that survives where that is the case.
Tarport Hap and Silk Stockings showed how big the NYSS program was at the time, especially Tarport Hap, who a year later would I believe set what at the time was the track record when she won a US Pacing Championship leg in 1:57.

No they ran these in the afternoon because they were nonbetting races. My Dad took me to a few of these.
