When I worked for Vernon Dancer in the early eighties, I was the care taker of a much older Kerry Gold who run in this race.He was still a good horse even then

I was from Newark, New Jersey, we spent a lot of time at Roosevelt Raceway. Post time was 8PM and we drove there on the way back we hung out in Little Italy or Chinatown. It seems like back in those days people stayed out at night and travelled in snowstorms. People had a better time for sure. You worked out at home and there were no gyms. Man do I miss those days. Gay Talese made reference to this once o TV.

I was in attendance on this night. Still have the program. Typical big Saturday night crowd at RR.

With the recent passing of Sonny Dancer, it should be noted that he drove the horse that went the 1000th 2:00 mile in the history of Lexington's Red Mile...The Horse??? Adam Lobell...R.I.P....Sonny...

Saw that performance in person that night as a kid and remembered thinking that no horse in the world on that night would have beaten him

Ken Willcox you are incorrect ..Seedling Herbert was bought as a yearling by Jack Herbert at Lexington for 65.000(U.S.) and he went thru the sale as SEEDLING(You can look it up!))

Can't remember this one, I was only a few months old, but do remember RR, why the hell did they tear that track down? Things were better back then...

Land grab..i was living on long island at the time, even raced a few bottom fish there as well mid 80's, it was politicians, mainly Senator Al Damato and his cronies, with valuble land for sale to japanese, ponzi, etc etc..Newsday (long islands paper.) exposed it, nothing ever happened to scammers, sadly it was Yonkers that needed to be torn down at that time.. Imagine how much money a Raceway/ Casino near Roosevelt field would do on Long Island now..sickening to this day beautifil facility, hundreds of jobs lost.

@@brianjschumer Problem was, no one saw that in 1988. 9/11 is why that all got approved later on.

Governor Skipper was a big fan favorite at Greenwood in Toronto. I think he might have won or was second in the Canadian Pacing Derby one year(probably 1978).

I think he was from the Lambeth area, because he referenced the Herbert's from time to time, and he might have beenan acquainted with some OJC horsemen from the late 1970's and early 1980's..I just enjoyed calling him out on all the bullshit posts he would send up...i don't now everything, but if i se something that is blatantly incorrect, i gotta go to the videotape, as Warner Wolf was fond of saying...

Aww Warner Wolf.... I remember him from Monday Night Baseball with Cosell & Lorne Michaels. That was his classic phrase! Hopefully Willcox is still in good health, because we need more posters here.

Thats was a land grab scam Senator Al Damato, Japanese investors, ponzi, horrible lies, the way they fudged numbers attendance, etc, then sat in court for years before teardown..fact was it was Yonkers in trouble not Roosevelt. Long Island Paper news day was running the weekly article regarding the scam and then it finally got noticed but by then it was too late
