    I like doing this to stop it:
    If you feel yourself procrastinating, start counting down from 5. This triggers some sort of panic reflex in me that makes me immediately want to do any task.

    I've read it on reddit once, but I think it fits.
    "Anything worth doing, is worth doing half-assed."
    You don't need "motivation" to do something, just do it, even if it's half-assed.
    Do the barest minimum.... do 1% of your effort, just start to do it.
    Tell yourself, if you really don't like it, you'll stop.
    And the kicker? Just stop if you really don't like doing it.

    • @_mickmccarthy
      @_mickmccarthy ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Absolutely. I used to rely on motivation to get stuff done. Once I reframed it to having discipline to get things done I found I had much better success.
      Whether it's working out, studying, practicing an instrument, whatever. 5 mins each day will be massively more beneficial than waiting for motivation to strike.
      And of course, those 5 minutes will frequently turn into 30+ minutes.
      When I heard it, it was "If something's worth doing, it's worth doing badly", which nicely plays on the old "If something's worth doing, it's worth doing well"

    • @JWhitePWC
      @JWhitePWC ปีที่แล้ว +25

      here's how i understand it. basically, he's saying that tasks that you've started, but haven't finished, stick in your brain better than tasks that you haven't started or that you have finished. that's the basic idea behind this. now, imagine you have a big paper to write (as i've had before). if you just sit down and write a few sentences, your brain will basically be like "well you have finish it now! finish what you started!"
      hopefully that made some sense. there's no hard and fast way to really beat procrastination, but something like this can help. and it probably won't work for everyone, but it has worked for me in the past

    I used to procastinate a lot and then one day during the pandemic, I procastinated to the point i havent done a whole quarter of assignments. My teachers messaged my mum and asked if i was okay and that told her i havent submitted my assignments starting from first quarter. My mum ran up to me angry and we both did all of my assignments from 8pm till 11am.
    Ever since that day i stopped procrastinating and found a solution to always remind me if i had an assignment.
    If you use a samsung phone. Use the calendar app. Set the deadline of the assignment into the calender app to all day and put an alert for 4 days before. This trick has really helped me a lot and made me do my assignments atleast 3 days after it was assigned. Because i would always get alerted by my phone that i have an assignment and turns up the adreline rush.

    lol. Unironically this came out at the perfect time. I was procrastinating on looking around through coding bootcamps and just before this vid got reccomended to me i finally spent 5 minutes writing down the info for some of the different options available to me. Good to know that that helped now that i did it lol

    I like the reason why we procastinating is because we were just too lazy to start the work. Because sometimes if we were already doing it we could spent hours in the process.
    The main problem is just to start doing it not the process

    What's weird is I kinda already knew this. I have a journal I write in every day, but I kind of hate doing it, and it takes me forever, so I put it off and end up awake at 11:30pm writing. But I've always thought if I just start writing it, I'm gonna wanna come back to it and get it finished earlier.
