Still, it's difficult to find proper full size IMAX screens these days. I know there's one in Melbourne, the currently largest IMAX screen since the one at Sydney is closed. I don't know of any other that actually comes close to it in size.

Yeah I’m trying to research the history of Imax. Last time I watched an imax movie was over 10 years ago and I remember it being huge in a dome theatre. That place has since been demolished and I watched my first “imax” film since then yesterday at the movie theater and was confused and underwhelmed. It was so much smaller than what I remembered and I thought I had walked into the wrong room.
You know IMax is insanely crazy to see the movie in full HD with high quality and louder audio and a humongous screen for the audience to react to it and hear the audio so loud and have the theater be fun

I was supposed to watch Avengers Endgame on IMAX but the operators said they will show the movie in 2D because they have technical problems. He said that the technician will arrive on Friday from Canda to fix it. It’s already Sunday and it’s still not fixed. Smh

In 2022 in many countries, due to very high rental costs, the cineplexes had to be downsized, leading to a watered down IMAX (renamed MAXX in many countries), with the subsequently unavoidable situation of moving the downsized screen closer to viewer, and all viewers sitting on a much steeper floor, many iMax/Maxx cineplexes are crappy. If you want the absolute in image fidelity in 2022….SAMSUNG’s ONYX. The biggest Onyx OLED screen in the world is now in India.

@@SimpleAgario You know that, special effects are rendered in 2k right ? Well not all but like 80% of the movies. Marvel movies, and others that rely on heavy GCI, are actually done in 2k, so if they use IMAX 70mm film cameras, and they scan the film at 16k (which is pointless because it will take sooooo much resources to edit the footage so it's probably no more than 4k scan). do all the CGI and print on a new 70mm film or play it digitally, you won't see more than a 2k image. So ye.

Small correction: Digital IMAX is actually a 1.90:1 ratio. And 70MM IMAX is 1.43:1. And I completely agree. I would love to watch a movie on 70MM IMAX but there isn't one in my country

I head up mastering and distribution facility in London and still (off the top of my head) am unclear how imax fill their screen with a standard 2K DCP

They are brighter, but it's not a big enough difference to notice unless you somehow look at them side by side.
