Thank you so much for this video. Thanks to the replacement of the Hindi word 'shwan' with the Urdu word 'kutta', and to some almost-Abrahamic practises of some Vaishnav sects, the socio-cultural image of the dog has been through a lot of denigration in a lot of Indian households. Dr Bibek Debroy's book Sarama and her Children is a great discourse on this topic. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
@bleep0004 Can be. But the connotation that it has, the usage of it as a cuss word in phrases like "kutta kameena", "kutte ki maut", "kutte ki dumm", "kutte ki ilaka", "har kutte ka din ata hai", all seem very, very Islamic. Even in Christianity, there are concepts like "dog from hell", so the two Abrahamic cults have had their fair share of contribution in demeaning the stature of the dog here in India, knowingly or unknowingly.
Muslims don't like dogs, maybe that's got something to do with it. My Indian grandfather had dogs 80 years ago , he had an Alsatian. But I love the 'wild' dogs of India, Dingos and others.
@@bleep0004 When you associate a particular animal with connotations of being sex-hungry, greedy, lustful and over-all menace, it DEFINITELY means that theologically you do have negative ideas about it. Even if the origin of the word "kutta" is non-Islamic, the usage of it, the implications of it, is HIGHLY Islamic.
Superb....other scientists have proven how the household mice has Indian origins, similarly-chicken domestication, now dog.....what this shows clearly is that ancient modern humans travelled or migrated from India to central asia, middle east, onto europe, east asia, and also mixed with local populations there creating the descendants of current peoples.
@mrmap4875 you need to do some basic research on human migration sir....there is lots of data online--make some effort before posting lies and incorrect knowledge.
Avoid using the word Pariah. It has some dark origin. British derived that word from a south Indian language, to defame a group of people in order to convert them.

If I’m not mistaken the Mayan civilization also had this belief that when a person dies the spirit of their dog guides them to the afterlife. There are a lot of similarities in the beliefs of ancient cultures. Not a lot of them have survived to this day, but Hindu dharma still remains strong.
Haganah (the militia that would become the Israeli defence forces) created a Intelligence dog unit of Pariah Dogs which were super intelligent. Today’s Israeli forces don’t use them because Pariah have intelligence of their own and choose to attack the enemy and cannot be forced to attack. Pariah are extraordinarily brilliant and in whichever Indian street these are living it is almost impossible for thieves or burglars or new person to commit a crime. But humans are becoming dumb and will not listen to alarms raise by them at the very first instance.
First, People should not call them self dog lovers when they go behind fancy breeds. Then, some breeds are not suitable to Indian weather and Indian crowded environment like Husky, rottweiler etc. Finally for those who consider Indian Pariaha, Different breed have different quality. Pariah dog is not ment for small apartment. They need nominal amount of exercise than small dogs. More effort to train than those pedegree dogs. Since these are not selectively breed, they have greater natural instinct to hunt, bark, chase than to play and always cuddle. No matter, They would be best companions.
All animals are holy in their own way. If I kill a mouse , I offend ganesha, If If eat a bull , I offend shiva, if I take care of a pecock i earn the favour of subramanyan/kartikeya , Lions and tigers for devi, snakes for the nagas etc. It is like a protection mechanism for the animals, that enlightens and encourage us to coexist.
Thank you so much for this. You are a blessing for people like me. I have always been vocal about picking Pariah/Desi dog over foreign breeds. Many Indian minds have been colonised and don’t realise the potential of our Desi dog, and how close to nature the breed is.
* Correction - Early humans likely started the process of domesticating wolves by interacting with wolf pups rather than fully grown wolves. While the exact details of how domestication occurred are still debated among scientists, the prevailing theory suggests that humans tamed and raised wolf pups, which would have been more manageable and adaptable to living with humans.
Yes it's still debated, in fact, the debate extends to the real possibility that today's wolves came about when environmentally separated from much older tame dog species. So it's not really clear which came first.
Very well said, Indian street dogs are very intelligent. My mom used to tell us this story in my childhood. When my mom was pregnant and very near to due date, they were living in a small house. One dog came and digged out a hole in the backyard because it was also pregnant and getting ready to deliver its babies. So my mom went to her and requested like this "Look if you deliver your babies here then you won't let anyone come this way. I am also pregnant and soon guests will come to see my baby after my delivery and you may bark at them. Why do you want to trouble me at this stage. Can you please go somewhere else?". Looks like it left by evening and looked for another place nearby. My mom says they are very intelligent. My parents always feed the street dogs even when they had pet dogs. Now they are in their 70s and these street dogs are only their guardians at their home. What I mostly like in India is, food in normal households never goes waste because of dogs.
@ProjectShivoham - it should also be noted that the Mahabharata also begins with sāramēya being abused by Janamejaya's brothers early in ādi parva. This is a key story that elucidates several dharma-sūkshmas and puts in motion the chain of events that lead to the narration of the epic.

I have named my rescued puppy Pari in honour of Indian Pariah dog even though she is mix breed. However, people relate her name with fairy as this baby is very cute and very calm with known people 🧚♂️ ✨️ Only at outsiders and stray cats/dogs she barks, otherwise people doubt if she is mute. And such a good mannered - leave your own plate full of nonvege by her side, she will not touch it. And after walk she will not touch even her favorite food unless I take her to wash her feet. My Pari is a real darling baby.

Grammatical intrepretation at 11:00 is completely wrong. Bhairava is vriddhi of Bhiru which means fear, bhairava is he who causes fear. Similar things can be seen with vasu and Vasava, vishnu and vaishnava etc.
Vaishnavites consider Dogs as impure because of its unhygenic scavenging practices. One story, a dog will enter the Sanctum Sanctorum of Srirangam temple. So they did mantra prokshanam and ritual for cleansing. Parasara bhattar said in a shloka. "People clean you when a dog comes, who will clean you because I entered" Refers to him being impure than a dog (a benchmark of impurity). Saivaites of course relate to Dog as a God itself...

From Sri Lanka. This is the same dog that lives here. The oldest friends of our civilization. But after the whites came, many things changed. Our language, religion, clothing, culture, etc., were inferior, while theirs were superior. So much so that this affected our dogs as well. Now these dogs are commonly called "wild dogs". But these are the ones who have adapted to our environment, they have no diseases, they are intelligent, and they are clever. It is scary how the destruction caused by the whites affected even our dogs.
Parassini kadavu temple in Kannur, Kerala worships dogs too along with the deity Muthappan. Dogs freely roam the temple premises and no one has to fear them.

Great video! It's unfortunate that this important and outstanding breed has been relegated to "pariah" status even when we have the fancy Kennel Club of India pontificating about foreign breeds. Why don't we have a breed name for them when so many other less visible Indian breeds have names? The Kennel Club should take this up. Our household at various times have had foreign breeds and the Indian Pariah. Both were dearly loved and affectionate but the latter was far more at home in hot, humid Indian conditions and more intelligent.
Everything about this video is amazing-the background music, the main voice, the explanations, the captions, and even the thumbnail. The only thing I think could be improved is the video visuals or the way the video explanations are presented. Keep up the great work!
Many thanks - Highly informative video as usual - however some 'dog' sources claim that the diminutive Chihuahua is the oldest breed originating in Mexico's Chihuahua Valley 10k years ago as a guard dog - if you ever get to hear one barking you may well believe it 🤣🤣🤣
Never knew about this Indian street dog ,it was educational and entertaining. I did like how you added dogs in other cultures. I was you didn’t say anything about the wolf that was behind the beginning of Rome? And I can remember seeing a symbol on the English royal seal or some other major European kingdom had wolves on their coat of arms. Before the Lion became the thing.

Arvind garu, Namaskaram andee. What you have over these past few years is nothing short of exhilarating to every Sanatani that follows his / her Dharma with a passion and not to mention even to the not so passionate ones.
Every video of yours is a masterpiece that needs to be celebrated and saved / archived for posterity for generations to come. The lengths you go to, to vividly explain each topic is simply astounding and commendable.
There are legions of people that look forward to your videos with bated breath not only to gain the hidden knowledge of our resplendent Dharma and culture, but also to share it with family and friends. This sir, is your legacy. A legacy that is so stellar that will inspire many generations of Sanatanis to think, introspect and persevere the Dharma and its glorious traditions.
Thanks a million for everything you do, so selflessly and with utmost conviction.
Om Namah Shivaya 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this video.
Thanks to the replacement of the Hindi word 'shwan' with the Urdu word 'kutta', and to some almost-Abrahamic practises of some Vaishnav sects, the socio-cultural image of the dog has been through a lot of denigration in a lot of Indian households.
Dr Bibek Debroy's book Sarama and her Children is a great discourse on this topic.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Isn't kutta is from Prakrit and likely from kukkur?
@bleep0004
Can be.
@@arjyaloganpaul5632 so they just used dog as an insult. Don't make kutta their word.
Muslims don't like dogs, maybe that's got something to do with it. My Indian grandfather had dogs 80 years ago , he had an Alsatian. But I love the 'wild' dogs of India, Dingos and others.
@@bleep0004
When you associate a particular animal with connotations of being sex-hungry, greedy, lustful and over-all menace, it DEFINITELY means that theologically you do have negative ideas about it.
Even if the origin of the word "kutta" is non-Islamic, the usage of it, the implications of it, is HIGHLY Islamic.

What a beautiful narrative..
Jai Maa Bharati!
Even cow zebu is Indian and best in the world Indian Brahmin bull fetches in chores in Brazil
@mrmap4875 you need to do some basic research on human migration sir....there is lots of data online--make some effort before posting lies and incorrect knowledge.
Avoid using the word Pariah. It has some dark origin. British derived that word from a south Indian language, to defame a group of people in order to convert them.
All Street dogs are not Indian Pariah dog or desi dog. Many are mixed breed mixed with other breeds especially in cities.

Yes Rajasthan m husky pal rhe hai 😭🤦🏻♂️
It would be great if next video is on 'Varaha' and its importance in Indian society and Dharma!

It goes way deeper than this ... human & dog species have a extremely rare condition ... we share a gene ... think 'bout the implications.
This was seriously surprising... the topic, the presentation(as always), but most importantly the point of view with which the entire Doc film is directed. Brilliant thinking and even more brilliant presentation... इति सर्वम शिवम्... UD...
The Karuppaswamy devata also has 2 pariah dogs accompanying him, you can see it on almost every single temple of karuppaswamy no matter how small it is. We can say it as pariah dog because most of the folk songs song ffor the devata mentions him have "Sen-nai" which refers to pariah dog in tamil nadu. interestingly Karuppaswamy is also believed to be born 5300 years ago
Sharvara and kervara is similar to cerberus. Cerburus used to be pronounced like Indian sharvara.
May be there is some ancient connection.
@ytskt there is no may be. Greeks are basically iranians. Y haplogroup J2a is majority greek branch which is of middle eastern origin.
What a great eye-catching video. Thanks for enlightening us about our culture. I had never thought of keeping a pet dog but now I really want to.
And my pet will be the only street dog. I am not going to buy any foreign breed because we Indians have the best breed .
Good descision! They are most suitable for India... Very intelligent, friendly, without genetic health issues and hair shedding. They also live longer .
To all the Bholus, Kalus & Sherus out there !!!!!

Females 60-70 kilograms (130-150 lb
The Second International Dog Show at Islington Agricultural Hall, held on 28 May 1864 in London, showcased the Indian Mastiff among several other dog breeds.[11] The previous year, Edward, the Prince of Wales, and Princess Alexandra, entered an Indian Mastiff in the same show, along with a Newfoundland, Russian Tracker and two Borzois.[12][13] In 1884, Littell's Living Age said that historically, a "large Indian mastiff" was employed by kings "in the chase of wild beasts".[14]
. which is mainly pet by Royals.. they used in War and in Shikar. 99% Indians doesn't know about this beast..
Its not Indian, it is just British dog mixed qith native dogs.
The Indian street dog looks like some dogs that hang around my neighborhood. I live in the country side without animal control. So they live independent lives with humans giving them food and companionship.
India has has a huge problem of mistreatment of street animals.A large section of indian dogs are suffering in silence in our country.India has one of the highest rabies cases in the world.Ngo's and animal shelters are still not available in most parts of india.I have two street dog myself.People in our country don't like to adopt street dogs cause they are considered dirty and not very healthy smh they'd rather buy a foreign breed to flaunt their status😒.
Indian dogs are far better than what we get in the market plus they are well adapted to our climate and easy to maintain
I know this is off topic but, I would suggest you to make a video on Indian culture appropriation, specially on topic of Yog and Chakra. It is known but not widely talked about. More Indians should be aware of this. We should preserve our Dharma and culture!
But the kind of violence they are facing now from humans (the companions they are dreaming of) is soo terrible.
Yeah it’s horrible animals in general
Grammatical intrepretation at 11:00 is completely wrong. Bhairava is vriddhi of Bhiru which means fear, bhairava is he who causes fear. Similar things can be seen with vasu and Vasava, vishnu and vaishnava etc.
spiritually at its root it's correct
Vaishnavites consider Dogs as impure because of its unhygenic scavenging practices. One story, a dog will enter the Sanctum Sanctorum of Srirangam temple. So they did mantra prokshanam and ritual for cleansing. Parasara bhattar said in a shloka. "People clean you when a dog comes, who will clean you because I entered" Refers to him being impure than a dog (a benchmark of impurity).
Saivaites of course relate to Dog as a God itself...
i once saw street dog licking the vomit of a man who had vomited from his car. the vomit was on the road and it was monsoon season. i have also seen cockroaches eat the poop of birds. animal world is crazy.
#MakeIndieDogsGreatAgain #AdoptDontShop thanks for doing this. We are on a mission to glamourize Indie dogs.. and few days back, we thought about the same idea.

It's the same dog you never notice as nothing but street dogs but have been around for a long time and are more healthier and loyal than any of the artificial breeds made by foreigners who worship them for their poor health and neurotic issues
