    Hey Ben, thanks for sharing your training plan for the South Downs Way 100. It's great to see that you're focusing on building good habits and incorporating various types of training, including night runs and strength and conditioning. Wishing you all the best in your first 100-mile ultramarathon!

      Thanks so much Mihai. Really enjoying the training so far so with 4 weeks to go, hopefully I can keep it going and get to the start line well prepared! Thanks for your support buddy

    Ben, you are so sensible! You are right, building good habits and sleeping well is so important. I must admit, I find it that napping helps too. I've heard so many good things about cold showers but I've still never tried it. Well done for always thinking about your recovery. Look forward to watching Carla's ultra run. (By the way, it was interesting to see that you walked The South Downs Way in 7 days as a teen-ager.)

      Thanks so much Olga. I've found the cold water really good for recovery. I was pleased when I went for a swim at my local pool today and they had one shower specifically for cold water 😅 Would definitely recommend it for recovery. Looking forward to getting out there to support Carla with her first ultra this week and capture the day!

    Mate, you are doing so well and this is such a balanced approach to training, whatever the distance. Totally agree about the motivation aspect - sometimes you just need to keep showing up and the rest will come!

    • @timeonfeet

      Thanks mate, that's the hope with keeping it balanced to not focused on too much of the same running and work the muscles in different ways so hopefully it works! Also helps with mixing it up and keeping it interesting. Thanks for watching 🙏

    Congrats on hitting the 1k subs milestone!! Really interesting to hear how you've been training for the 100mile and it sounds like you've been doing everything to be as prepared as you can be, including the long run at night and all the extra stuff on the cross training and recovery side!

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Chloe! I was surprised by how good I felt on the night run, it was a really nice time to be running with the stillness but I think doing it with a couple of friends really helped too 😃

    sounds like you're taking things really sensibly Ben 😀 the only thing i'd add if you don't already incorporate would be regular visits to the chiro or osteo to make sure your body is all alligned and any niggles sorted. I can't tell you how good I feel after seeing my chiro to sort out my back/hips and feet.
    I can't wait to hear how Carla gets on at Run to the Sea, I really hope she enjoys it and it's a lovely day (and she enjoys soaking her tired feet in the sea after!). Bestest of luck for the run Carla! 😘 x

      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Ben! Trying to just keep it fairly consistent and also not push it too much, a difficult balance but feeling good so far. Thanks for the good wishes for Carla. As the aid stations don't have her favourite trail snack watermelon it looks like I might have to be a mobile aid station with a supply of it on the day 😅

    Very insightful, Ben. It sounds like 90% the sake way you'd prepare for a road race. Is the speed work in there to ensure you dial in to all available levels of fitness?
    One major difference is we wouldn't do an 11pm run to train for the local 10k :-)😂
    In terms of any further advice and tips, I think it's the other way around... :😂

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers both. Yes the speed work is to get the heart and lungs working a bit harder but also to develop those muscles that will be especially useful later on in the race when I start to fatigue. Trying to get more used to running at unsociable hours 😀

    Train for the descents, If the quads are gone youll hate the gully of doom descent into eastbourne after 97 miles

      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว

    What are you doing for mental training 🙂

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin. I've got a box of tricks that I've used with other ultras before which I've found help. Chunking often works well for me, so just focusing on getting to the next checkpoint on tree rather than thinking about the whole distance. And then also fixating on and magnifying positives so that could be the trails, the views, a drink I like when things get tough. These kinds of things I do on my long runs or more tricky runs each week as well as adjusting quickly to make myself as comfortable as possible like I would for the 100
