Born and bred, after 61 years there has been many changes. What a privilege to grow up here and work here all my adult life. A town that has everything 😊
Great memories of Felixstowe I only live 10 miles from flix great time with all our mates back in the late sixties. Now in our seventies we still love a couple of hours there and the obligatory drive along the front. Yet another great vid Tim.
The one thing I loved about staying in Felixstowe was the sound of the waves rolling over the pebbles on the beach, it makes a fizzing noise, very relaxing in the evening. Lovely place, made me miss those lovely 70s gardens when I was a kid, full of flowers and like you saw nooks and crannies so play or sit with your parents.
i love felixstow always go when we stay with family at ipswich i could spend hours just watching the ships and boats at langaurd point and watching the world go by need to have a visit back soon
Felixstowe my hometown and I’ve seen almost every inch of this place, but after watching this video really let appreciate this place after living here for 18 years and still counting.
Hello from Fort Worth, Texas! I just wanted to pop in and say how much I enjoy your content. Well-produced, and honest. I am absolutely fascinated by your reviews and walk-arounds. I hope to someday travel to GB, and soak it all in. Cheers!
Oh, and there's a tiny fish and chip shop on the end of the road on the corner just down from Mannings Amusements (not the Regal Fish bar, the tiny one on the corner in the other direction) - best fish and chips I've had. Sometimes we drive to Felixstowe just for that fish!
Sorry, third comment lol, but 16:59 My grandparents had one of those chalets when I was a kid! We'd go there all the time. I used to play in the seafront gardens and pretend I was some fancy Lady of the Mansion and they were my own personal grounds!
Local from nearby Ipswich. I've spent a lot of time at Felixstowe! I remember a game we used to play when I was a kid was "Emptying the Beach". My dad convinced my sister and I that if we worked hard enough every time we went, we could empty all the stones from the beach by throwing them in the sea and make the beach all sandy. There's several photos of us as small children in our extremely fashionable early 90s garb lobbing stone after stone into the sea. Quite a good mid-action shot of my little sister rearing back for a particularly hard throw!
Think people who have never visited Felixstowe because they think of just of the container docks would be very surprised how nice it is! Love it there! Nice one Tim!👌
I worked on Felixstowe docks for 11 years before I left to join the Navy. The port has grown considerably since then. I remember in the late 90s and early 00s it was quite dirty in the town and along the front. Glad to see they’ve cleaned the place. Might need to revisit soon.
Oh wow- thankyou. I used to holiday in Felixstowe every year as a child as my grandparents lived there. The last time I visited on holiday was around 40 years ago 😮. It's changed so much. There was mini golf, crazy golf, paddle boats . I have some amazing photos from the 70's. Wonderful memories.
Famous for 'fast Eddie' haha. I used to live there and loved it. Up until around 2012 (a decade ago) it was a very quiet town. 9am in the morning quite eerie in a nice way but, now its like most places, being spoilt with new houses and attracting too many people to settle there. I'm only a 10 min drive away nowadays.
Lived in it for 30 years on the seafront on top of that as well and concur. Glad to see it's been done up but also glad I'm not in it anymore. It's great if you don't intend on leaving it much but getting in and out of it was becoming a nightmare due to the a14, orwell bridge, sandwiched between 2 rivers, increasing number of people etc. Also the ASB and rubbish in the summer was getting too much which you don't appreciate on just a day visit.
Love the colourful positive vibes on all your vids, Tim. Felixstowe seems to have a lot going for it, and the beach and harbour are inspiring to say the least. Another great animated vid! 👍
I lived near Felixstowe for about 15 years and my kids grew up there. Felixstowe was our regular haunt. Great place - we still visit often even though we live the other side of the country now.
We had a caravan at Suffolk Sands many years ago So as a teen I was always running around the fort late at night with friends. Nothing was really fenced off like it is these days. All of my friends were at the neighbour caravan park which was a 15 min walk. The trouble I used to get up to in felixstowe would be punnishable by imprisoment these days lol. Great memories. We had several caravans over the years at suffolk sands and I remember the old clubhouse by the waterfront very well.
Hi Tim! Looks nice there better than I thought it was. Very sad day today loosing our dear Queen 😥😪 . Thankyou for sharing with us. Love to you as always Tracey 💕 Xxx
I absolutely love Felixstowe, definitely 1 of my favourite places! 😃 I'm very lucky in that it's only an hour's drive from where I live. I can thoroughly recommend the Alba Chiara, the food is fantastic there. 😋
Thank you for showing me Felixstowe. I used to take my mum to the market and she used to love playing the 2p drop in Mannings. The Fort is looking good I went around it the day before they closed it for restoration so that must have been 1998/9. Thanks again from QLD

Oh my God came across this video by chance how it brought back memories for me. My first job was working in the Cavendish Hotel as a commis waiter - it was then owned by a Mr & Mrs Eaton. I then secured a summer job at the Regal Restaurant working for Mr Cordy and his daughter Jean for 2/3d ( yes two and three pence) an hour!!! - his brother owned a sister restaurant further down known as the Alexandra Cafe. Thank you for rekindling such fond memories.
the funfair at Felixstowe had the meanest bloody walser a few years back then there was the boating lake and the astroglide type slide on the pier. mannings is good too, there used to be a nice restaurant attached to that. i'm about half an hour from this place. the gardens need to be smartened up. the regal fishbar is fantastic, still is lovely either for take out or eat in fish and chips. i remember them putting in the rocks. there are also playground facilities with spinning child's rides near some big houses somewhere along the prom. Felixstowe is a lovely place to live. A beach on your door step , a theatre and mile upon mile of beach and a town centre. What more could some people want.
@@KAz32able Should never have pulled it down. One of only 3 Art Deco hotels like it in the country. Was a great place. Had my first pint in there. Landlord's was Russel Eaton. His son took over and it went downhill. Then he took on the North Sea Hotel, and that went the same way.
I like it there, I used to go with my grandparents when I was a child, then with my father sea fishing as a teenager and now with my niece and nephew. Had some really good times in Felixstowe. I'll have to pay another visit soon. I miss the market and fairground though. Still a lovely place to visit.
June 23, 2022: An advert for the site of the former Marlborough Hotel in Felixstowe has been placed on the property website Rightmove, raising the prospect a solution could be found for the 49-bedroom premises, which used to be popular with holidaymakers, organisations and business people. An "eyesore" Suffolk seafront hotel that has stood closed and boarded up for years has been put up for sale for £2million, sparking hopes the building can be revived.
Have been watching for a few months after researching ahead of a holiday go California in Norfolk - I now live in Felixstowe. Loving the content Tim, my partner and I always make time to watch your videos - find them a relaxing way to chill at the end of the day with a glass of wine. Would love to see you nip across the water to Harwich sometime as I was raised there!
I been there we stayed in a hotel the Malborough Hotel the owner said he do like customer so he is turning his hotel into flats on the left and on the right is going to be a luxury smaller hotel. He is a India chap owns the hotel.
The pier's arcade was amazing in the '80s, it was a test location for new arcade machines, so they often had machines that never appeared anywhere else in the UK. Also remember being on holiday there as a kid in the early '90s, being awoken to countless fire engines racing to the back of Mannings, they had a cafe called "Arthur Daley's" and the place caught fire in the middle of the night.
Ive not been here looks a nice place. Great idea for the shops using the containers. Some people have made houses from them too. Some lovely views thx Tim👍
What a strange coincidence that you've just uploaded this after i've just got back from being in felixstowe, I miss it already :( The boarded up hotel is actually up for sale again, lets hope something happens with it soon!
Thank you for visiting our little town Tim. Glad you enjoyed your stay here. Hopefully there will be plenty more developments in the future, there is even talk about a new Big Wheel here, just not sure where yet.
I’m from North Carolina. I spent my summers in Felixstowe during the 70’s and 80’s. Landguard fort was totally open to explore back then. On the pier there was a carpet slide and a giant killer whale bouncy thing. One year it blew off the pier
Love your videos brother. England is my family's ancestral home and although I've never been there it's nice to see the country in which my family came.
@@WalkWithMeTim I've got it framed on the wall and I gave another piece framed to my brother as a Xmas present. In turn he gave me a piece of Worthing promenade during renovation 😂
Hastings was the childhood seaside town that most shocked me of its poor, rundown condition. Felixstowe was the seaside town that most pleasantly surprised me - it was much more than just a port and amusements, I vividly remember the seafront gardens and the old fortifications to explore. It's nice to see it's not much changed. Great video, thank you Tim 👍
One of our favourite places along the coastline of Suffolk and Norfolk. Have been over to Bawdsey on the little ferry. Long time ago now...time for another visit! There are lots of little places in Kent people can seek out that are similar to the setting of Old Felixstowe . Bit off the beaten track, but worth it for the peace and quiet with the jangling of the little boats in the water. Love it that you show the other side of places too from the fun and noise to the peace and tranquillity...x J x
This was a nice surprise to pop up on my suggested vids. You’ve definitely captured feli in its best light. Yeah there was a slide on the pier (the slippery dip), i used to work on it in my teens in the mid 90’s. Chips with curry sauce for lunch from the chippy across the road. Great memories. Working for the family that owned the pier, it was an interesting time. It was the first time i ever saw money being counter by the bucket, for instance 🤣
I'm so glad you came to Felixstowe again, we moved here last November from Ipswich as I work at the docks. It's the best move we ever did, we absolutely love it here. We live near Languard Fort right by the sea front. It's such a chilled out place to live. We absolutely love beach street, glad you got to see it yourself 👍. One place I recommend is Fish Dish (across the road from the pier) for amazing Fish and chips, we are there the first night after moving house and the place was lovely and so was the service 👍
Please do Plymouth and the boat to cawsand and kingsand. I lived in Plymouth for five years and last visited two years ago and I have such good memories there
I had to subscribe to Gaby's channel after hearing her constantly getting the name of the fort wrong, Lol. Made me laugh, so I shall look forward now to videos from both of you.
The secrets out .I love Felixstowe I go there about 5 times a year all year round .Don’t know what happened with the Marlborough hotel A lot of the time in the summer all the holiday accommodation is fully booked There is plenty of parking within walking distance of the beach The seafront parking is always busy most of the year because most of it’s free and no time limit
Hi Tim. Great video. FYI, the plot of land you were discussing that used to be home to the Cavendish Hotel has been earmarked for flats/apartments in the art nouveau style of the original hotel
I think I may remember you. Were you an American lad, with a brother/s - seemed to remember you were a bit of a Jack the lad. I remember you may have had a motorbike? I'm 64 now
Me and my bestie used to go to the Cavendish hotel 💃 disco, it was known as the Cavvie, the pier pavilion which was pulled down years ago (the site of the leisure centre) used to have discos on a Sunday night if I remember right and there was also a disco in what is now Mrs Simpsons cafe next to the Fludyers Hotel. Felixstowe is a one road in and out town, I don’t think businesses do well there.
The bartlett hospital was never a residence. It was gifted to the town as a convalescent home by dr bartlett. It was sold and turned into luxury flats.
Born and bred, after 61 years there has been many changes. What a privilege to grow up here and work here all my adult life. A town that has everything 😊
You might know my Uncle Bob Meadows who used to have a radio show there. I think he's retired now.
It's beautiful in Felixstowe

This was a nice surprise to pop up on my suggested vids. You’ve definitely captured feli in its best light.
Yeah there was a slide on the pier (the slippery dip), i used to work on it in my teens in the mid 90’s. Chips with curry sauce for lunch from the chippy across the road. Great memories. Working for the family that owned the pier, it was an interesting time. It was the first time i ever saw money being counter by the bucket, for instance 🤣
lol wow great story
I'm so glad you came to Felixstowe again, we moved here last November from Ipswich as I work at the docks. It's the best move we ever did, we absolutely love it here. We live near Languard Fort right by the sea front. It's such a chilled out place to live. We absolutely love beach street, glad you got to see it yourself 👍.
One place I recommend is Fish Dish (across the road from the pier) for amazing Fish and chips, we are there the first night after moving house and the place was lovely and so was the service 👍
Thanks Tim. You have made me consider visiting Felixstowe now 😊
You should!
Please do Plymouth and the boat to cawsand and kingsand. I lived in Plymouth for five years and last visited two years ago and I have such good memories there
noted!
I had to subscribe to Gaby's channel after hearing her constantly getting the name of the fort wrong, Lol. Made me laugh, so I shall look forward now to videos from both of you.
The secrets out .I love Felixstowe I go there about 5 times a year all year round .Don’t know what happened with the Marlborough hotel
A lot of the time in the summer all the holiday accommodation is fully booked There is plenty of parking within walking distance of the beach
The seafront parking is always busy most of the year because most of it’s free and no time limit
Looking forward to it
Hi Tim. Great video. FYI, the plot of land you were discussing that used to be home to the Cavendish Hotel has been earmarked for flats/apartments in the art nouveau style of the original hotel
Thanks for the info! when tho ?
Fantastic vid tim ☀️🎥🎬👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I grew up there, That fort was our tent. It looked like they just dissipated and didn’t make the beds. 1966
I think I may remember you. Were you an American lad, with a brother/s - seemed to remember you were a bit of a Jack the lad. I remember you may have had a motorbike? I'm 64 now
Great video again tim!
thanks
I need to visit, this looks lovely 😍
You should!
I do have a honeymoon to book, I'm keeping it within the UK so
and thank you WalkWithme for a fantastic video ! I should open a Buddy Bear merch shop in one of those shipping containers
Another great video. I thought Skegness was the first ever Butlins resort?
yes resort .. this was an amusement park
Awesome video , thanks for the excellent upload !
Glad you enjoyed it
I’ve lived near Felixstowe for years and never knew that the first Butlins was where Mannings is!
yep lol not many people did
Thanks Tim & stay safe 🤗

Wow what a fabulous place, only the shingle beach lets it down
