Hi FordK168! I must admit, I did find the Staff Model and Staff Model X did get a bit muddy on the course, however I was testing in the UK spring when preferred lies were still in place due to how wet it was so it's hard to say if that was more or less than other balls I've used! But I think they are worth testing for a sleeve! All the best!
Great video. When you are choosing a new golf ball, what are things you look for, spin rate, ball construction, compression rating, feel, or price? How often do you change the type of ball?
Hi Steve! For me personally, I'm looking for a ball to firstly be consistent (does it do the same thing with each club consistently?) then for me it's optimising iron/wedge spin and ball flight without sacrificing distance through the bag. Then can I find those things with a feel I enjoy at a price I'm happy to pay... But that's just me and I think it's personal to each of us. For some people price will be number one and for others it'll be feel. I only tend to change my ball if I feel like my current ball isn't giving me something in the list above... I played TM Tour Response for about 2-3 years but as I learnt more about my game I realised it didn't spin enough for me off irons/wedges, so I found the Bridgestone Tour B RX and loved that for the last 12-18 months however I'm made some big swing changes in the last year and now I think a premium golf ball can offer me a bit more of what I need so that's the reason for looking to the Wilson! What are your thoughts?
@@weekendtourpro I still lose about 2 to 3 golf balls per round, so price is a priority for me. However, I don't want to buy a bunch of cheap distance balls. Instead, I prefer to buy premium golf balls in bulk directly from the manufacturer at a discount, allowing me to use the same ball throughout the season. I’m currently using Snell.
Really enjoy your golf ball reviews since my swing speed is close to yours. I have also been testing some of the same balls but the one I'm reallly liking I dont think you have tested yet, its the Maxfli Tour. I've tested and played many rounds with the Srixon Q Star Tour, ProV1 and Kirkland. I like them all but, for all things considered, the money vs performance, distance, spin, I find the Maxfi Tour wins out sor far. Like to see your feedback and review to see what you think. Cheers from the Yank in NJ :).
Hi jesscollinson6720! Thanks for watching and for your comment! Sadly we don't have Maxfli golf balls in the UK so that's why I've not tested them! I really need to find someone in the USA to send me a sleeve of them over! I looked on Amazon but they were so expensive where it was an import! I'll do my best to get hold of some ASAP! Thanks!
I also am a Wilson guy love supporting the underdog. I bought 3 dozen with their deal they had for $100 so like 33$ a dozen or so these balls are better IMO than pro v ALSO durability is awesome with them as well
Hi Ize7766! Thanks for watching and sharing your own experiences! Sounds like you’re very similar to me! Great to hear your views on durability too as that has been a question from others in the comments! 👍🏼
Nice review Luke. When I did my golf ball testing at the beginning of the year, I didn't try the staff models. Given your review, I wish I had tried them now. I did try the Triad and generally liked it, especially for distance. However, it didn't spin enough for me. I'd really encourage you to try the Vice Pro and Vice Pro Plus. I'm using Vice Pro Plus this year and absolutely love them. I played 9 holes with one today and shot -1 which is better than usual for me. What I love about the Vice Pro Plus is the spin I can generate. That really helped on our dried out greens here in Nova Scotia. We've had baking heat for several weeks now but these Vice Pro Plus can still stop so quickly. I'm heading to the UK at the beginning of next week and would be more than happy to send you a few Vice Pro Plus for testing. Unfortunately I don't think I have and Vice Pro but will take a quick look if your interested in trying them and would like me to mail you a few. Reach out to me through e-mail if you're interested in this offer. Thanks as always!
Hi Gary! Always looking to test new models that haven't featured on the channel so I'll get the Vice added to the list. We can get hold of them in the UK so I'll try to pick some up - thank you for your kind offer! They sound good and a great price point too! Safe travels in a couple of weeks and great score for the 9 holes! Wow!
Hi afiqjaffaran! That is correct and matches what I say at 1:03. Glad you like the Wilsons! Really comparable to the Titleist Pro V1 range as you saw! Thanks for watching!
Nice comparison again Luke. Thinking I'd prefer the feel of the regular Staff model. If you don't mind a sneak peak, what driver/shaft are you using today?
Hi Petro! Yes for sure, I use a VA Composites Drago 55 Four shaft in Stiff. It's an aftermarket shaft and was more money that I'd have liked to pay but I do love it! Thanks for watching!
You say you have an average handicap and swing, but boy you are as consistent as an iron Byron robot, and your balance and tempo are models. Have you tested the Wilson Triad? Have played them recently and they seem to be very good balls at a significantly lower price. They also came out well in the MyGolfSpy test of hundreds of balls.
Haha thanks John! You're too kind! I was hitting it really well in the studio that day - sadly not so good on the course the last couple of weeks! Also I only have to show you 10 shots with each club so I get to pick the best swings to show on screen, even if the data includes 90% of the shots I hit! I have tried the Wilson Triad - there's a review on my channel of it - I really liked it!!! Wilson are right at the top of their game lately! Thanks for watching and with lovely comments like that, please come back and watch again! Haha!
Hi Luke, these Wilson golf balls look an excellent ball. The biggest problem I feel is that Wilson make too many models of ball. Also they will have a very popular ball then stop selling it. The Wilson Zip seemed very popular but, unless I am wrong, they have discontinued it,yet they persist with the Ultra,a very poor ball in my opinion.
Hi John! Thanks for watching! Great comment as always! I think we will see Wilson streamline their ball model over the coming year or so with the Staff Model/Model X as their Premium offerings, Triad as the mid-price point and then Duo Soft (soft/feel) and Ultra (distance) as their two budget price point balls - but we will see! I've not tested the two budget balls so hard for me to comment on them!
I'm still playing the previous sraff model which is an excellent ball, especially as i got them for £30 a dozen. £39.99 would have been an excellent price. The Triad is also worth a go if you haven't tried it.
That does sound like a bargain Jim! Glad I'm not alone in really liking this golf ball! Totally agree with you on the price! As for the Triad, yep I've reviewed it on the channel and loved it too! A great golf ball! Thanks for watching!
Nice one Luke I use the old staff model bought when on offer mate...Wilson will bring out some offers wait till then unfortunately your right price point is tricky too low no one will buy ...and get the 3 for 2 that's a bargain it's as good as prov1 people stop sticking to prov1s try othe balls ...I'm a 6 hcap and love to try balls out ...BRX tour response AVX and Wilson staff ....all good ⬆️👍 Luke do the new vice range when you can mate
Hi Pete! Thanks for watching! You're the second person to request Vice in the comments for this video! I've got 3 studio visits booked in the next 4-5 weeks so I'll pick them up and film them in one of those slots! The Titleist Pro V1 is an awesome golf ball and number one for a reason but I totally agree that there's so many good alternatives and it's definitely not the right ball for most weekend golfers!
@@weekendtourpro Luke ...tested the the t150 and i230 irons yesterday .....your right it's hard to choose 😂😂... Same numbers across the board on both 🤷 still to decide mate 👍
@petekenny3774 that’s really interesting to hear Pete! Do you have any brand loyalty to either Ping or Titleist having enjoyed their products before? If so maybe that comes into your decision to avoid any “what if” thoughts? Or maybe you fancy a change from a brand you know? Could be something to consider… although sounds like no need to rush into a decision! 👍🏼

I swing around 85 max driver prob 225. Hows the forgiveness on mishits? I know some pro level balls really penalize if you don't flush. Considering the regular staff model I know the X would be too firm
Hi BruceOglevie! I personally found them to be incredibly forgiving in the test and during my on course testing! I hit 3 shots in a row with the 7 Iron which all carried 153.x yards and I caught one a bit heavy so that really surprised me! What I would say is I haven't noticed anything difference vs. Pro V1 though so if you've had that challenge with Pro V1 I wouldn't expect anything significantly different! Thanks for watching and I hope you give a sleeve a go! All the best!
There’s a lot of love for the Vice golf balls so I’m going to pick them up ASAP and get them filmed! The Pro Air is the softest of their three premium balls I believe so sounds like a great choice! 👍🏼
I love this comment because it means that the only thing you could find negative to comment on my video was that I hit the ball the exact same distance and speeds as the average male golfer and LPGA players! So thank you pal! 👍🏼😂
