    I just received in the mail the Titaner TacTi stylus titanium pen with built in glass breaker/self defense tip. Love it so far and uses G2 refills which are easily accessible at pretty much any store. Also the best part about it is it still looks like a normal pen and not as Nick Shabazz would put it "A TACTICAL WEAPON OF WAR!!"

    Any recommendations for similar style pens (copper or brass) that takes two inks? So it probably would need to be double headed. Doesn't matter if it's retracting or capped. I carry a pen in my wallet w/ Field Notes and it would be nice to have two colours of ink.

      I find these (now the brand is Smooth Precision) MUCH better and smoother than Tactile Turn. More consistent and quiet spring, smoother action, refined chamfering everywhere but most notably the clip - and mine is still lightweight in bronze while remaining tough. On par with Big Idea Design overall, TT is lagging behind IMHO.

    Question - the G2 Mini adapter kit - what is included in that exactly? Is it just a spring? I'm wondering if I could take a standard Pilot G2 pen, yank the spring from it, and trim the cartridge down to Parker-style length....would that work?

    • @Harkwit

    I have a question about pens like these, and I don’t mean this in a snarky way at all. Here goes. For quite a few years now I’ve been a [nearly] exclusive fountain pen writer. With the exception of when I’m out in wilderness these are the only kinds of pens I write with. In the world of fountain pens I’m used to a variety of price ranges and thinking about several considerations when choosing a pen. Off the cuff I’d say that about 30% to 40% of the decision to buy a pen comes down to appearance and how it feels in the hand, with everything else being about how the nib performs while writing. That’s where I’m coming from. Then I watch a video like this one-which I greatly enjoyed-which features some pretty expensive pens considering that nothing about them or their cost is unique to them. What I mean is that the part of the pen that delivers the ink to the paper (and the ink itself) is not actually part of the pen at all. It’s all a function of the insert, and we’re talking about pretty much off the shelf, office supply store inserts. So it seems like these $100 pens have $1 “nibs” and are being bought almost entirely based upon what I only consider to be a third of the reason to buy one pen over another. This is why I’m confused about pens like these. I’d love to have anyone shed some light on why they love and buy pens like these. Thanks!

    • @BestDamnEDC
      @BestDamnEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically, it boils down to being a lifetime pen. Theoretically, if you don’t lose it, it’ll outlast you and buying refills is cheaper and more economical than buying hundreds or thousands of disposable pens.

    • @AaronPeabody
      @AaronPeabody 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BestDamnEDC Owning something durable and long-lasting I definitely get. I guess I just find it confusing to spend so much on something that doesn't give you a more upgraded writing experience. I guess we all have different things we're looking for. As far as economy, buying a bottle of fountain pen ink can last for a very long time.

    • @Astronaut_FX
      @Astronaut_FX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AaronPeabody To some degree, at least for a portion of "the EDC community" it has become as much about the status of how much you've spent for an item as it is its usefulness and/or value. A $7.00 Zebra F-701 will easily last as long as one of these, so it really does become more about the status of having a luxury item. "EDC" has really become detached from being equivalent to "survival" when it comes to gear.
      That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Spending money on something that makes you happy, even if a much, much cheaper and equally functional item is available is a normal part of all hobbies and interests, and it's a very personal thing. Nothing wrong with it at all. Unless...you start to try to make the case that an item like this is a necessity for EDC and/or survival, because that's simply not the case. This is a luxury item that conveys status, which is fine. But let's not pretend that it is superior in terms of its intended function, because that isn't accurate.
      Influencers like this guy (maybe not him specifically, I can't say) get a lot of these kinds of items for free in exchange for making videos and making others feel like they need them. It's an expensive version of "show and tell." Again, that's ok, you just need to be eyes wide open to that reality.

    Very interested but I have a couple questions that I haven’t been able to find answers to by googling.
    1) what’s the deal with the bolt action design? As in - what is the benefit?
    2) what is “tactical” about these pens? I guess by that I mean why wouldn’t I carry just a regular pen?
    Caveat to the comment - I’m gonna buy one anyway just because I want one.

    • @BestDamnEDC
      @BestDamnEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the benefits of bolt action, I mentioned in the video. It's more difficult to actuate in the pocket or accidentally. The other reason also partially answers your second question. Bolt actions are more rudimentary than click pens and less likely to wear out than a click pen. They still can, with lots and lots of use. But not before you've more than gotten your money's worth out of it.
      These aren't tactical at all. They're simply heirloom quality pens, meaning it could be the last pen you'd ever need (if taken care of). Ergo, the reason you'd carry something like this is for the admiration of the design, engineering, something being made entirely in America, etc. Reasons abound and they're different for everyone.

      ETA: if you like the small size of the Mini Bolt because it fits in the various organizers better... the Field Pen is as slim and is more in line size wise with a Fisher Bullet X750 space pen when closed.

      I do, the old tactile turn copper glider. Every day. Church on Sundays for notes in my bible. Monday-Saturday for school, flight school, keeping track of my old truck’s gas mileage, notes about things, my journal, and bible study, signing stuff, fidgeting with... My pen is a staple in my edc, just as my knife, and flashlight are.

      I write daily so I got a Lamy Logo 406 in a loop on my notebook and a Fisher cap a matic in my pants pocket. The Lamy is being used 3 times a day, the Fisher 3 times a week I guess. Leaving home without a knife works for me, going without a pen makes me miss something.

    I like pens with caps. If you loan someone your pen HOLD ON TO the cap. They are less likely to instinctively put it in their pocket. That said, I'd lose friends if my $100!!!! PEN went into someone's pocket, even "accidentally".

    To me, there is no point to an EDC pen if it can't write on an angle, upside down, on h20/grease etc. In other words, it must take a fisher sp refill. These are REALLY nice pens but I just won't pay that much for a pen (I do LOVE pens and have a nice collection) . As much as I would love this bolt action, i don't like copper or brass so of course, the most expensive one is the one I'd want. So for now I'll stick to the most under rated EDC pen out there; the Fisher TELESCOPING pen. I've used so many pens, some over $300 (gift) but for EDC, i come back to my Fischer telescoping pen. Right size, never fails, great price.

    Crazy to have a pen video/review and not even show or mention how it writes. It is a pen after all. lol. But it’s like that’s not even important. It’s all about the looks and the action..?? Not all of us have used those other pens you mentioned that are comparable to this.

    • @BestDamnEDC
      @BestDamnEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s entirely dependent upon the refill you put in it. It comes with a specific refill by default, but you can swap it for something else if you wish, which means you’re sort of in control of that aspect.

  • @SublimePathos

    Wait, why do you need this pen though as a survival EDC? Just keep some g2 and sharpie around and worst case a stick with some fire and a light weight pencil sharpener. I do not understand why this is in everyone's EDC on Instagram unless this company is just very good at marketing and creating a need that doesn't exist.

    Could you just round up the prices? It's so annoying and cluttery to keep hearing "ninety nine nine nine, sixty nine nine nine" etc it would be so much easier to hear just "one hundred, seventy" which also is what the price really is.

    • @BestDamnEDC
      @BestDamnEDC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That, of all things is what annoys you? Me being too precise? Sorry, I will not be less precise because accuracy annoys you.

    • @Catrik
      @Catrik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BestDamnEDC Not arguing, just giving my view on the matter. It's not about accuracy, it's just the fact that saying a number in a long way like that forces you (or atleast some people, ofc there are personal differences between people) to really concentrate to understand what the actual price is. $99,99 is in practice completely the same as $100, so I don't see what the benefit of being "more accurate" is. What purpose does this accuracy achieve?
      And I'm actually a machinist so accuracy is very important to me. But a good machinist also knows what kind of accuracy is enough to achieve useable result :D
