Well, this version in and of itself is a big reference to the MindCrack SMP, or at least some of their biggest members, alongside a bunch of random features people had (and hadn't) requested be added to the game. You have the Etho slab, obviously a reference to Etho, the Zombie Pigmen wielding battlesigns is a reference to the man who did megabases before everyone else - Zisteau. This April Fool's update was really neat, and really showed how in touch with their community the old Mojang was.

Also, fun fact, in (one of?) my very first worlds, I thought new torches were going to be gone, so I spent a long time filling a double chest with the original torches that didn't burn out.
Those zombie pigmen randomly holding those signs? That’s probably a reference to Vech’s Super Hostile maps; they’re custom maps where the objective is to collect 16 wool and some ore blocks, but the difficulty is set to Kaizo-Romhack levels. There are these custom mobs called Zistykin which are these super dangerous Zombie Pigmen holding signs called Zistonian Battlesigns (which are enchanted with up to Sharpness 2, Knockback 2, and Fire Aspect 2 btw). It’s crazy that these mobs were referenced in this April Fools update! 4:16

Battle signs are so nostalgic. In Vechs's maps, there were enchanted signs that were better than swords. And if you misclicked and placed the sign, the enchantments would be gone.
for anyone that wasn't around 10 years ago, mumbo actually had an other channel called "things in nutshells" where he made an animated video about this update 10 years ago
The signs were a reference to an old series of adventure maps made by Vechs which had these signs of knickknacks X and Zisteau who played the map with a Zombie pig skin loved using these signs.
The mob at the end would be a good addition to Minecraft if it were made hard to obtain. Imagine building a defensive fortress of regenerating skeletons for your base. With a little redstone, this could be very powerful. Of course the regeneration would have to be limited somehow. But still man.
@@Po_124 I mean automating brewing isn't too difficult, so as long as you have a couple farms then keeping it stocked shouldn't be too hard. Though I'm not saying that it this wouldn't be far simpler and much easier, but I don't think that that is really a good thing. Adding in content to the game that just completely supersedes a mechanic that already exists takes away creativity from the game in my opinion. One example would be blue ice boat roads. By far the fastest conventional mode of transportation (other than elytra maybe but that's another topic), before that making piston bolts was a flashy end game way of adding transportation to your world, now that challenge seems redundant considering you need to put in all that effort to build one to go far slower than placing down a few pieces of ice. This may have been your funniest video yet! I love that you kept the facecam videos, set them, and kept them in the video. I think you should try to beat Minecraft 2.0, like ender dragon and everything (or whatever is in the end 😂)
This update was before 1.6 iirc. After the redstone, but before horses. They added actual horses right after this, and in 1.7 we got hardened clay / terracotta instead of stained glass, but eventually got there in 1.8 which took like 2 years to make. Wild.
The zombie pigmen with the battlesigns are a reference to a couple old MC youtubers, primarily Zisteau. Zisteau had been playing a super hostile map (by Vechs), and started keeping a 'battle' sign on him as a joke. Vechs then included an enchanted sign with knockback 10, sharpness 5 and other strong enchants in later maps as a nod to Zisteau. I think even the popular mod Tinker's Construct still has a craftable battle-sign weapon in it to this day.
3:09 Perfect for if you want to tame cats but for some reason you think they want cooked fish so you cook all the fish that you've caught which, because this update is from before guardians or the fishing redesign, and collecting enough fish to tame several cats is actually quite tedious (not a specific reference (definitely a specific reference)).

And of course, made it into this Minecraft 2.0 April Fools gag. My thought might be a bit controversial, so I've put it down further to hide it from people. If you want to look, just click "Show more" This is what I think. I think Torches burning out could be in the game, but as a togglable game rule with default set to off. Say like "Gamerule Torchburnout False/True" so if someone wants the extra challenge, they could turn that off and have more mobs. The game already has other difficulty based gamerules, like Keep Inventory, Insomnia and the difficulty setings, so this could be another
It would be pretty cool to have such a gamerule for Super Hostile-style maps in order to force the player to eventually replace their torches with more permanent sources of light (like glowstone or redstone lamps and what not)
@@Azullia Yeah. And by having it default to off the majority of people can just ignore it. And many advance players only use torches as temporary lights anyway. Especially in bases.
I remeber stockpiling torches on an early version when the torch burnout was being discussed. This was back in days when half slabs from an early version wouldn't burn, but slabs crafted in the current version (not sure which) would burn. Updates used to be so weird.

While this is a fun video I do want to bring up my view on the whole "Torches burning out" idea. That was initially planned for a Halloween update, then scrapped. And of course, made it into this Minecraft 2.0 April Fools gag. My thought might be a bit controversial, so I've put it down further to hide it from people. If you want to look, just click "Show more"
This is what I think.
At this point we've even gotten lanterns, the planned replacement for permanent torches.
That's not sugar, Mumbo... That's not sugar...
3:53 "Why is there smoke coming out of your oven Seymour?"
"Huh... Ooooh, that isn't smoke, its steam. Steam from the steamed clams we're having. Mmm, steamed clams."
I remeber stockpiling torches on an early version when the torch burnout was being discussed. This was back in days when half slabs from an early version wouldn't burn, but slabs crafted in the current version (not sure which) would burn. Updates used to be so weird.
Thanks for the awesome content and great videos
