Cary Nord is an Eisner Award winning artist, famous for his work on Conan, Daredevil, X-men, and a long list of others. He has a powerful, dynamic style that's also incredibly sensitive and natural. Tonight we'll be painting Conan with watercolor and mixed media. Check below for a list of materials and tools!
Bristol Board
HB/2B pencil lead for sketching
Pencil crayons (I have a full set that I employ) but for the outline, I like a dark red)
Black Ink (Inkwash)
Water colors
Acrylic White
Colored inks

A horrible thing that happened to me was that I got a great deal on a slightly beat up but readable vol 1 of Cary Nords Dark horse Conan at a used bookstore. It was such a brilliant comic. What's horrible about it is where I live I cant get my hands on the other volumes. Anyhow I'm so glad this video exists!!

man i love your work especially with this mixed media! Ive been decades away from doing anything outside of digital and just recently set up studio environment that I could only dream of back in college days...
I loved fantasy art like Boris and Frank Frazetta but was ALWAYS discouraged from it and told Id never get anywhere with that style. Had no internet back then and had to pay a fortune for books for references...
Now I live in Japan and there's nothing else BUT fantasy works ALL AROUND (especially living near Akihabara)
Brilliant channels like this are So helpful to get back in the game and learn new things!!

We use col erase a lot in animation, I always loved the Tuscan red one. In the uk you could only find them in one shop and my uni store had a few. I stocked up on some a few years ago. Amazing work Cary is one of my fave artists

In regards to the blue in the skin tone, I read somewhere that a rule of thumb is that if the light source is warm then the shadow should be cool and vice versa, in the opposite case would you still use blue skin tones?
