- Jim Mahfood is arguably the most innovative, and creative artists in the modern era of comics, and he didn't get that way by accident. He's a dedicated sketchbook artist, where he explores ideas and lets his imagination go wild, all in the privacy of his own books. Tonight we have the massive privilege of peeking at some of his most private and experimental drawings, most never before seen. AND Erick and I will draw with JIm, and try to keep up while he guides us all through his process for letting go, and finding ideas on the page.
It's always amazing seeing you work Mahfood. Finch, you are at a point in your career where instead of learning new things from comics you now are able to do it with the actual artists you admire in person and sharing your continued journey with us and Erick. Thank-you.
Thanks, man!
Get Ryan Ottley and Greg Capullo onstream! Michael Avon Oeming too. 😀 Mike Mignola, Mateo Scalera, Sean Gordon Murphy.
Jim is proof that doing original work and thinking outside the box can still get you work in comics. Be original, in years to come your own voice is most important, not the echoes of others.
Man, anytime I find myself lacking motivation to draw you always inspire me to get down to it. And I love the Foodone of course but that’s for you Mister Finch!
just came here to say this was super inspiring... as always. thanks
If I had a nice big Loft, I'd have huge disco parties. Not sure about the roller skating part, though.
I got a chance to meet Jim Mahfood at a Dragoncon in Atlanta, YEEEARS ago. At the time I didn't know who he was but I bought his books on the spot because I loved his artwork. Great combination of Pop art, graffiti art, punk and early hip hop
Thanks to you both for coming to OAX! We're definitely doing it again in January 2025.
Kasra, you rule! OAX for life, let's do this!
Super excited to hear that OAX is on for 2025! I am glad the show worked out the way it did, you and Bill rock!
Epic sketchbook. All the illustrations are something I aspire to draw like, being a technical illustrator everything is very sharp and precise. But I cant shake my love of the image.
6:10 that smile! You can see how happy you are with the piece! True love lol
that is a epic sketchbook . and this is a great stream ♦️
Jim was a neighbor of mine in Tempe for a short time... great kid!
Great stream🙂!..enjoin to watch and learn from legends
Inspiring as always ❤
best interview by far n i gotta say ive watched them all, love to u all x
54:41 I've been penciling my current comic for so long, still making edits, adding new pages, and it all is pretty exhausting. Though I can't wait to start inking because it's so true that once all of the homework of getting things figures out on the page are done, you can just go to town with inks.
Great to see you guys drawing in your sketchbook. I try to do it everyday!
I’d be curious how much inspiration Jim draws from Matsumoto because I see the same loose style from Tekkonkinkreet and it is just as beautiful.
awesome stream i didn't make it live but i am glad i can still watch
Love Mahfoods stuff. Inspiring.
Thank you!
@JimMahfood NoNo, thank u good sir...🙏🏽
This is great, please do more David!!!
DaVid! Please don't slick up the production values too MUCH! The grass roots feel is a BiG factor in your broadcast's charm and accessibility... in my humble opinion... (I LOVE this show, where everyone speaks my language :)) Never stray too far!
FIVE STARS!!!!!
@DavidFinchartist I wish you did more recent comics work, so we could have comics with the art like you do now
great interview, jims the best
I always want the reference image when I watch one of these type of videos.
Mahfood is King 👑👑👑👑👑
Make a part 2 please!!!
Ayeee Kc stand up!
💣💥
dang i keep missing the live streams!
I notice you don't use perspective lines. Is there a reason?
