Thanks so much for this. I'm a worship leader and have been playing piano and vocally leading for literally years.... With a degree in vocal performance. Because my degree is vocal and not piano i haven't really progressed. Even though I'm fantastic at lead sheets and chord charts in any key, my playing is just BORING. I've gotten stuck in the same way of playing. I need these riffs to expand my playing. I only do about 2 of them... Over and over again. I'm really looking forward to trying these. Thanks so much!

Good stuff, Marine. But all these licks seem to be built for fills in a ballad. They would sound great in a Journey power ballad. I'd like to hear some boogie-woogie, or blues, or country fills.

It’s not really common. But yes you can call it an add2. We usually call that a add9.
Then it’s only a preference of voicing.

Music theory dictates the add 9 in this case. Where there is a major triad, "d" would be add 9. If there was no 3rd it would be a sus2. If there was a major 7 in the chord it would be a major 9. So in this the add 9 is correct.
