As an air force aerial gunner you can choose if you want to go to gunships or rescue helicopters. I chose rescue helicopters to shoot miniguns and .50 cals. However I have friends that went to gunships. I’m glad I went to rescue, but I had the opportunity to work with the gunship guys and their mission set is epic. Cheers boys

This plane is suitable only in undeveloped, wild countries. In Russia it will not be able to fly to a position, much less shoot. A10 was suitable 50 years ago. In a modern war, he will not be able to do anything significant. He is very vulnerable.

I was snipe on a navy DD. Kind of boring compared to going up in an AC-130 to operate as “ puff the magic dragon.” I’ve seen the videos from the Iraq war. Lots of bad guys sent up in smoke.

This aircraft is designed to fight Flip Flop AK 47 army if you can call that. Put it in the real war vs an actual army, it would be downed with in minutes with Surface to Air or Air to Air.
Speaking as one who works on C130s (not these gunships), I'd say eventually it would. But everhthing breaks eventually. There are a lot of inspections these birds go through in order to make sure it doesn't happen, though. Aircraft skin is pretty resilient, and there would be a lot more solid structure around where the gun is in order to keep stuff from breaking and keep the gun vibrations from screwing around with the flying, avionics and such.
Fuel efficiency and speed. The gunships orbit their targets at high altitudes and then drop down to fire. They’re often orbiting for quite some time before going live, so they need a fuel effective and slow aircraft to do that well. Turbojet engines would have them looking like a NASCAR race while waiting on a target. They have the ability to air refuel as well, so they can stay high and quiet for long periods of time but at reduced fuel costs.
No thereason why you don't have "awesome" healthcare is because of the health insurance industry in the US. Your country has plenty of money to have both a universal health care and the most powerful military the earth has ever seen.

They can turn a c130 into a drone. But the crew thats working on the guns may need to stay there. I dont think robotics can help un-jam a gun. Of robota can. This drone gunship can stay in the air for days... Weeks. All they need is a drone air re fueler

It’s not though. We’ve had one gunship shot down since Vietnam and it was a perfect storm situation. The upgraded models fire from higher altitudes, out of range of portable L2A/SAM’s, and have defensive abilities to shoot down anything else coming at them from the ground.
In the present times where conventional high intensity conflicts come back these cool hercules will probably rest well in some Nevada desert boneyard..

One gunship has been shot down since Vietnam. SAM’s and AAA Fire are not a huge concern due to their altitude and defensive abilities.
