  • We catch the New Jersey Transit Atlantic City line from the elegant old Union Station to the gambling hub of Atlantic City.
    A couple of corrections:
    1) Its the 30th St Station and not a Union Station
    2) That's the Betsy Ross Bridge, not the Ben Franklin Bridge

    I just totally love this nj transit train. Going from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. I will take that train every day. Nothing beats this besides Amtrak. The passengers and conductors are really nice and amazing.

    30th Street Station, not a Union Station. That's the Betsy Ross Bridge, Ben Franklin is visible a few miles down River. Peek season to AC is Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Basically, NJT keeps the AC line running because if they didn't the residents of South Jersey would complain that only the northern half of the state gets all the commuter rail benefits. Only 14 round trips per day and ridership fell when PA started opening casinos a little more than a decade ago. Still a nice day trip Thank you for posting the video I enjoyed watching it.

    Akways nice to see some coverage of what only remains of one time Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines passenger service. We can be grateful for this service but greatly mourn what was lost in the early 1980's, namely trains to and from the Cape May County Resorts. Apparently NJ now prefers slow road travel and seems to have no memory of the pleasant, comfortable and speedy service to Ocean City, Wildwood and Cape May. They must think this is progress.

      It would be nice to have a less stressful and more pleasant way to get to those resorts.

      Preferring slow, clogged highways which are parking lots is very foolish, and with high gas prices train travel & train service is a much better alternative to driving in parking lots. The North-South Parking lot, the White Horse Parking lot, the Capital Parking lot around Washington,DC, the I-10 parking lots in Phoenix, Los Angeles,Houston, New Orleans to name some.

    Very informative video on the NJ Transit Atlantic City line. The line has great potential to go back to being double track. I lived in Elwood, New Jersey from 12/14/1963 to 6/21/1969, I remember when the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore lines was double tracked into Atlantic City. Most of the line went to single track in 1967. With all 3 major highways between Philadelphia & Atlantic City can be very busy with traffic, the Atlantic City line can be a big help in relieving some of the heavy traffic and with high gas prices, the train is the best way to travel. I travel long distance on Amtrak and when I’m home in the San Diego area for visits, I ride Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner trains into Los Angeles & into Oxnard,CA. Train travel beats driving and beats the bus.

      Thanks Christopher. There’s great potential with this line. It’s a real pity that it’s not been invested in. It could be an excellent day trip option from Philly, and if it was jazzed up a bit, could even be an attraction in its own right!

    I ride this line quite frequently. Lindenwold station has a connection to the PATCO service which runs thru Camden County and into downtown Philadelphia. The best cars to ride on for NJ Transit are the bi-levels used on the North East corridor line to New York Penn.I believe there is a speed restriction within Cherry Hill Township which is why the line always slows down between Cherry Hill and Lindenwold. I wish at some point that they would double track the line to avoid the wait time which generally occurs west bound between either Egg Harbor and Hammonton or Atco and Lindenwold.

    I’m taking this trip tomorrow and I have no idea how to find the nj transit train once I get to Philadelphia. I appreciate this since no one is answering the phone.

      Just go to the main terminal building at 30th st. It’s pretty clear once you’re there. Take your own cut lunch, nothing available on the train

    Okay, I just started watching. I thought the NJ Transit line ended at Lindenwold, and you had to get on a PATCO train to continue on to Philadelphia. Did NJ Transit simply absorb that PATCO line?
    Anyway, thanks for this. I rode the train from Lindenwold to AC and back, just to ride it, and that was, I believe, in September of 1989. That was fun. In later years we rode that train to AC for the big antique show in October, at least twice.

      @millermeteor74 the NJT line has a station stop at Lindenwold but continues on to the 30th St station in Philly. PATCO goes from Lindenwold to other stations in Philly, and also links up with the NJ River Line

    • @TravelwithMark
      @TravelwithMark  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The AC line also connects with the River Line light rail as well

    Philadelphia's rail station is called 30th Street Station. not Union Station. The bridge you identified as Ben Franklin Bridge is the Bettsy Ross Bridge.

    How much is the fare and is it connected to the airport or do you need transportation to get to the train station? Thanks

    • @TravelwithMark
      @TravelwithMark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Byron, fare from Philly to AC is $10.75 I believe, and there are various discounts for seniors, etc. Which airport are you thinking about? Philly? I believe Philly airport is connected by public transport and you could change at 30th st

    So this train have to transfer from Pennsauken to Atlantic city or no?
    Or this train straight to Atlantic city from 30th st station?

    • @TravelwithMark

      This one goes straight to AC from 30th St. You can also join it at Pennsauken if you're coming from Trenton on the River Line in NJ
