Consider prior to punching the holes gluing on 2 patch kits (one on each side) then punching the hole (now through 4 layers of fabric). This may help mitigate future fabric tear/ripping and the absence of factory re-inforced stitching at the new grommet locations.
Well, had to take canvas tent to a sail shop. th-cam.com/users/shorts-_s_pqVBQBs The material around the new grommet edge started pulling, tearing away after only 2 setups. The sail shop fixed the area by adding more layers of fabric, more stitching support around both extra grommets. Like the factory corner brackets are done. All good now….
@@MavHntr oh well that's no good. I am using some patches extra canvas squares I cut out and then lining bottom (putting canvas squares w the grommets up long outer side of my canopy wall, same sort of material as a tent) with about 4 inches of a strip of a shower curtain i cut 8 strips of around the bottom ends. Glueing the canvas squares to one side of the shower curtain strip where ill be needing them on the wall bottoms, then stamping in my gromets over all that then I'll use my glue..shoe glue acually, along any spaces on other side that I've not glued to make a sealed sorta reneforced bottom edge all the way around my canopy wall bottoms and gromets. Then I can secure them down with my steaks and they won't fly upward with the sideways rain and winds. Think I explained that right.. sounds complicated but it's really not.
@@MavHntr but I did see on another video on here one fella adding rubber washers inside the grommets....if I had those ide use 'em but I don't and I'm just using what I've got and what works for me right now
That's good work on your part. Too bad the Kodiak Tent Company can't just do this redesign/modification at the factory, during the manufacturing process.
Had used standard 3/8" grommet, suggested by Kodiak Tent Mfg. Applied/installed with professional grommet tool that I purchased on Amazon.com Later converted to a #0 spur grommet, recommended for 3-4 layers of reinforcing canvas material by a sail making/sewing shop.

good suggestion. Afterwards taking the tent-awning to a canvas (sail) repair shop, that is what they did to fix the problem.
Fine work there sir. Though i think im a bit more reckless and going to skip the measuring part and wing it.

What size of grommets are you using ?
