    In the fall of 2022, Google put together a launch of 3 cloud gaming-focused Chromebooks: one from Acer, one from Lenovo, and one from ASUS. We’ve either unboxed or reviewed the Acer and Lenovo variants of this new take on the large-screened Chromebook, but up until now, we’ve not talked much about the ASUS attempt. And to simply be frank about it, there’s a good reason for that: it’s not very good.

    Thank you for this review! FYI, it's $450CAD during Best Buy Canada's Labour Day sale. That's about $331 USD. In THAT price range...I would say that the CX55 is a fantastic deal. :)

    Love what you're doing here, and to be fair, love Chromebooks, not sure I'm feeling these new "Gaming Chromebooks" though, just feels like any other Chromebook with a high refresh rate screen strapped on.

    robby, would you add a comparison to your reviews on how the latest chromebooks compare to macbooks? ie, you can pick up a macbook air m1 on sale for $799 at times. how does $799 compare to a chromebook?

    I got this laptop as an everyday use laptop and some tablet use. And to use my bluestacks to run some of my android games like monopoly Go and such phone games like that. For these things it is absolutely great:) Its also great for media veiwing. I liked that it flips 360° and can be good for everyday use. But Im not a actual "gamer".

    Looks like a CM5 to me, ASUS must have launched the CM5 Chromebook with the wrong chipset under the hood at the time of the shortage?
    I'm good & happy with my CM5, I use mainly for media consumption and a few websites and not for games $300 Cdn. It was pure eye candy

    Im so torn, looking to buy a new chrimebook, in next few weeks. I torn between this CX55 by Asus, the Acer Flip 714, and lastly the 516ge.. if the Acer 516ge had touchscreen, would be a 100%, and a added perk of MicroSd, or SD Card support would be simply Chromebook heaven. I say this, cause im looking at the 8gb ram, i5, 256gb model at Bestbuy for $519 at the moment.

    1080p 144Hz 250nits. That sounds like the classic entry gaming panel. Is it also 45% NTSC?
    This one is a huge miss…for the same price you get the same panel and faster hardware on windows. At least with the Acer and Lenovo models you get that nice display.

    I just bought one of these and it's going back because I can't stand the NON-STOP loud fan. I've had many Chromebooks and none them had a fan that was ALWAYS on full speed. It's annoying AF.

    Stylus? Is SSD/RAM upgradable?

    • @jamdad13
      @jamdad13 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No stylus included, and it doesn't seem to work with a USI standard stylus (I wasted $50 to find that out). I can't find any info as to which stylus type might work with it yet, but I'll bet it won't accept pressure sensitivity levels.

  • @nyceyes

    By the way, it's fan is super noisy and always on practically. Also, the scree reflects MASSIVELY. It's too bad. I really wanted to love this item for non gaming, but too noisy and glare. I returned it.

    It’s just way too overpriced. I have a chromebook I got for $99 at Best Buy (lenovo flex 3 I believe) and it handles cloud gaming perfectly fine. Handles Android gaming perfectly fine too and even does some basic emulation.

      Well you wouldn't but you also wouldn't pay that. The gram you got was discounted heavily, and Chromebooks are often discounted heavily as well. In 9 months you can probably get this thing for 350 bucks.

    • @TheRealAdam23

    Is it touchscreen tho? The only reason I am not going to buy the Acer or Lennovo Chromebook is because it does not have touchscreen. So I am going with the Asus. The reason they charge more is because its touchscreen.

    • @TheRealAdam23
      @TheRealAdam23 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a decent gaming pc and a good laptop too, but I use my chromebook to cloud game sometimes so I can see the use case. The problem is that there’s no point in going for the “gaming” versions when a regular $100 chromebook will do the exact same shit

    • @dagingerbreadman70

      Doesn’t a Chromebook make more sense tho? 500 + 20/month vs 2000-3000
      What’s the advantage of a more expensive machine? 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @MichaelPadilla
      @MichaelPadilla ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m inclined to agree though I guess it really depends on what you want to do. A gaming laptop will play all games. A chromebook will let you play any cloud based games (GeForce now and such).
      Unless there’s games that aren’t on this and/or you need to use pc specific apps, I think chromebooks are a really solid option.

    • @TheRealAdam23
      @TheRealAdam23 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You definitely don’t need to pay 2-3000 for a good gaming laptop. 500-1500 will get you right.
      The thing is, there’s no point in a “gaming” chromebook like this, because I could get a $100 chromebook that will do EXACTLY all the same things this one does.
      And I’m not speaking hypothetically, I literally have a $100 chromebook and I stream games on it when I’m not at my desk sometimes. It works absolutely fine

    • @MoChuang343
      @MoChuang343 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dagingerbreadman70 This Asus one is a total miss. At $600 you can get the same exact display with an R5 or i5, 8GB RAM (upgradable) and an RTX 3050.
      For the Acer and Lenovo gaming chrombooks at least you get a nicer display compared to the $600-$800 gaming laptop market.

    • @MoChuang343
      @MoChuang343 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheRealAdam23 I would argue the $400 i3 Lenovo gaming chromebook is totally worth it. 16” 2560x1600 120Hz at $400 is unrivaled and there is no laptop at $400 that can push 120fps locally so you have to use cloud gaming at that price.
      I also use a $100 chromebook for game streaming and it works fine. But you don’t get that high resolution and frame rate at $100.
