OMG I knew he was begging me for food! 😮 I’ve only been feeding him once a day. Every now and then I was feeding him twice because I thought was hungry. 😂
Thankyou so much for this valuable information im setting up a 150 gallon tank which measures 5 ft length and 2 ft in height and width i will follow your guidelines and make my tank minimalist and clean setup i would get male red ear slider in it with best canister filtration and overall best quality that i will make shure thankyou once again
lucky terrapin ! thanks for the video! I have few questions: 1. does it prefer to be alone or need a buddy? 2. when bring it outside. is it has to be summer ? will it be too cold if is spring or autum ? since it is cold blooded animal. 3. do i need to clean the shell if there is algae ? 4. does it bite ? (this might be a dumb Q. =p) thanks !!!
Thank you! Here are my answers: 1. Most people say they are fine alone, but I think if you have the space it's good to give them a buddy. 2. I wouldn't bring them outside if it is colder than 50 degrees fahrenheight. 3. Most algae will come off on its own. 4. Yes, most turtles will bite if you put your finger close to them. This is because they thing your finger is food.
I have a baby red ear slider it is very small. We got rocks that we got outside to put in the tank. The turtle is also in a 55 gallon tank and the turtle doesn’t bask alot and stays under the water for a long time. Is that okay?
It's pretty normal for baby red eared sliders to be afraid to bask in front of people. Just make sure that the ramp to the basking platform is easy for them to climb onto.
I think petco has the best deals. You can order them online or in the store. They currently have a 50% off deal if you buy online. Here is the link if you are interested: petco.9zpg.net/R56QZX
I have a baby turtle, and I’ve noticed that he has been consistently lethargic and hasn’t been eaten for a week. However, he doesn’t show any signs of illness. he can dive and swim but doesn’t do so often. Additionally, its breathing seems normal. I’m not sure what the issue might be or why he’s refusing to eat. I am really worried
Hey, I'm sorry to hear that. I would suggest trying out a couple different types of turtle pellets to see if he is just being a picky eater. Make sure the pellets are formulated for baby turtles so that they are small and easy to eat. Also make sure that the water temperature is around 85 degrees fahrenheight, as cold water can make turtles become lethargic and stop eating.
@ I have tried offering different types of food, meats, and fruits, but he doesn’t respond. He seems very lethargic and shows no interest in eating or moving. The water temperature is as you have already stated.
I think they might hide in winter months when it gets a little holder, but I don't think it should affect the amount of light that they need. I keep my light on 10-12 hours per day year around.
We cant get my daughters Painter turtle to go up on her basking area and get out of the water. Is it ok to take her out and let her run around her bedrm if we are with her?
HI, this is the filter I use: amzn.to/3ZDOrDL . It's pretty cheap any cycles 150-300 gallons of water per hour. It's also easy to take out the sponges and clean.
I just recently found a baby red ear slider turtle which is probably about 1-2 inches & I’m not sure if I should add more water to his tank, I put a lil bit of water because I was scared it would be too much for him, but just enough for him to swim around if wanted to. His shell sticks out of the water by a lil, is this fine? Or should I add more water to his tank?
@@M5idg oh gotcha! Eventually they will need a pretty large tank (at least 100 gallons). However, those are very expensive and hard to find. If you turtles are under 6 inches, 75 gallon is good for now. You might just want to build some sort of above tank basking area to give them more space.
I used to have a pleco. While it definitely helped with the algae, it pooped a lot (more than my turtle) so my tank was still dirty. Is your tank next to a window with a lot of sunlight? That might be contributing to the algae growth.
It’s common for female red eared sliders to have long nails. While some people do cut them, it’s pretty risky because it can cause a lot of pain and blood if you don’t do it correctly
my baby turtle has some very small brown spots she is a red eared slider the spots are on the bottom tips of each scutes is it normal or should i be worried i just got her this weekend
A couple days will be okay, but a red eared slider really should not be without water for more than 3-4 days. Also, they still need to drink water, so you still need to put them in a small bucket of water for a little bit each day.
Can you pleaaase help me? My turtle vomites two time in the past three days! He opens and closes his mouth in water and a lot of smashed food comes out of his mouth. This happens normally 30 mind 1hour after he took his food. Also he poops in short time after vomiting. He hasn't done this in his while life. He is 2 years old. I haven't had changed the kind of his food recently and I am sure they are not out of date. And normally when he has food more than normal he just poops. He has never vomited. Pleeeae help me. Any tips is useful.
My red slider is trying to come out the tank recently from past 2 weeks and not eating. The temp is just perfect but i really dont understand whats happening! Pls help
It's very normal for red eared sliders to try and come out of the tank. Regarding not eating, have your tried different types of pellets? Also, you may want to try freeze dried shrimp to help stimulate their appetite.
Oh shoot, I'm sorry. You should soak your turtle in warm water for an hour or so. Make the water shallow so that the water line is a little below their head.
I am trying so hard but failing. I really wish I could find someone to take my painted turtle and red eared slider. I will pay someone to take care of them at this point. I plan on letting them go in the spring. SMH.
I'm really sorry. I wish there was more places to accept them. If you haven't already, craigslist and facebook marketplace are good place to try and give them away.
Always been obsessed with these turtles since i was a kid, going to start my tank soon.
Great and informative video, thanks buddy
That's awesome, glad I could help!
Thanks for the info, now I know what to do to make my Red Ear Slider turtles!
Really nice video, learnt a lot.
Which are the pumps you would recommend?
This was a great video
Thank you!
This is really helpful learning from your experience.
Awwww so 𝘾𝙐𝙏𝙀

Hey how did u attach that basking box to the wall ... Nice idea
Hey, I used this shoo glue amzn.to/4iLnJAu. Its very strong, and the box is a lot sturdier than I thought.
Nice video😘 Planning to get one myself
However, won’t they eat those sands, as those are small?
Thanks! and they might dig through the sand looking for food, but they rarely eat the sand on purpose.
Bro how to make turtles practice of eating vegetables
try giving it to them after you havent fed them for a day or two and they are really hungry.
My turtle is only 4 months old give me some tips
I would wait until your turtle is at least 1 or 2 years old. Right now the most important thing is that they are getting protein so they can grow.

Great video .. would love to have one not sure we can in the United Kingdom cause they are classed as invasive species
Wow I didn't know that. I just looked it up and it says they have been banned from sale, import, breeding, or exchange. That's a bummer.

Can I apply these care tips to my Mexican Slider?
Yep! The two species are very similar
Ok Thank you! Your channel has been very helpful

Hello! May i know at what age will they start to shed their scutes?
It can really depend, but usually between the ages of 2-4 years old.
Is that filter you use quiet or does it make a noticeably loud humming sound?
It's very quiet. This is the one I use: amzn.to/3YQyZnt

You should add some more water. You want to give them enough room to swim around since they are an aquatic species.
I have two red ear sliders, should I worry about the fish tank??
There is always a chance that your red eared sliders will hunt the fish
