    As we can see all these amazing guests on JJ’s podcasts, I think we’re finding out that players are starting to find out and appreciate having a platform where they can express their honest thoughts without any agendas and questioning forcing them into a particular image created by the media. Almost everytime if not all, that player’s public perception actually improves by leaps and bounds. You can tell by how relaxed they are that they don’t agonize coming onto the pod and it seems a lot of players actually look forward to it, to finally be able to give their side of the story.

    He's from europe and people take sports extremely differently there and in Europe talking to the ref is a sign of the player playing hard and the determination to win. It's a cultural difference... There's a difference between being competitive and talking to the ref and complaining you know.

      I disagree. There's a difference between talking to the ref and complaining.
      What Luka did in the past was complaining (putting it lightly).
      Talking to the ref calmly is taken seriously but then so is in the USA.
      While constant bitching to the ref was considered immature at least for our team (like 3 years ago)... Firstly it never gets the results you want, secondly you look like a know-it-all, and thirdly if I see an opponent complaining to the ref you best believe I will try to get the ball in play ASAP, make a fastbreak and take full 5v4 advantage of the 0.5s he takes by complaining before realising what is going on.
      I know they don't do this in the NBA but it is the easiest way to shut up a complaining player... If he isn't too in love with himself of course.

    As a coach (youth community volunteer), I've figured out that if you go after Refs they react like any other human (they hold it against you). I've tried to tone it down, or apologize quickly if I over-react to their call (or non-call), and explain I am just trying to protect my players. Between the coaches, players and fans (now that they are back)... Refs get it from all sides, constantly, and it can't help but wear on them. Don't become a Ref's focus.. either by complaining constantly or by trying to intimidate them using body language. If they are terrible, adjust and deal with it after the game or have someone on staff bring it up at half time. As for the pro's... different ball game... with money riding on the game. I still think it should be the coaches challenging the Refs.. not players. There are spare coaches for just that reason ;)

      NBA is pretty soft when you compare it to Euro or national basketball. Funny because when you see NBA players play for their national team you rarely see flopping or complaining. Then they come back to the NBA and start crying at every whistle again. I don't understand that.

    • @VArsovski10
      @VArsovski10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dom4591 the culture is different, the FIBA refs don't mood police games as much. They even stop the game at times to make sure everything is alright, like sweat pools on the floor, having a player just finishing a drive where got dangerous at landing etc
      BUT, they can also afford that, the game lasts 8 minutes less and even more that Luka said timeouts last 1 minute instead of 3
      IF the refs in the NBA also cared and put the time into things like make sure the court is ready or players are alright and prop up that "fair play, let the better team win" kind of stuff, games would last 3 hours tbh

    Dam Luka sees the hate tweets no wonder he took his weight seriously now and is currently taking over the NBA.

    What's crazy to me are some of the fans perspective on this. I was born and raised in Dallas, and if you follow our community, sports fans are always talking about how they want our players and coaches to have that fire. The Jimmy Johnson, in your face type of spirit, and honestly I believe that's all Luka was doing before. I could rattle off a dozen names of players who frequently get into with Refs, and if we're being honest, basketball is an emotional sport. If someone just clobbered you, or a call was made against you that wasn't made against the other team, I can understand getting into it. It's simply emotions in the moment and I don't think any of these NBA players are the type to actually have beef with a ref. I feel like there's a double standard there from the fans who talk about Luka. You can't say you want fire and then complain when they display it.

    • @notperfect101
      @notperfect101 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right in general. But the problem is he argues and complains about every call he doesn't get during the whole game. That's not fire - that is a childish sense of entitlement (if not a bit of narcissism) and is quite disrespectful towards the refs. It's very annoying to watch. Must be even worse for the refs. I just watched a live game with him 6 months after this video was posted. It seems he's gone back to his old ways. Shame really. He is an amazing player but quite immature still.

      @@notperfect101 Name an NBA player who doesn’t complain to the refs all the time. LeBron is constantly doing that. Also, they have good reasons bc the NBA refs are trash and horribly inconsistent on calls.

    The fact that even espn and all the old players that are now anchor literally say to the public that certain players get calls by the refs because of who they are, you should all know that the NBA and most professional sports are as real as the WWE. Hoping JJ will expose it soon.
