Wow, that must be the biggest furry convention news in history and that sounded very scary to a lot of the furry’s that were there to witness it but I’m glad you and your friend and everyone else is OK and safe ❤
As someone who also was at MFF 2014, and staying in the main hotel, only ever learning of the sky bridge because of the gas attack, seeing the most dead Sunday morning at a con ever, and in the the aftermath hearing and talking to people about it as far away as South Africa. I relate to a lot of this, even the Hilton security knocking on doors, not the going to Denny's part though. So many things i could say, so little time, at least everyone effected was safe in the end, not everyone left unscathed though.
I still remember being at the in house shop and wathcing the police officer pull the fire alarm, then trying to help some people figure out where to go. Was a wild MMF.
I was in suit in the lobby when this happened. I remember smelling pool in the lobby, but didn't think anything of it. Totally forgetting there wasn't a pool in the hotel. When the fire alarm went off we went to my friend's hotel room in the Hilton. HOWEVER, there were rumors that the hotel staff were going to kick people out of rooms due to the room limits. Saying they were going room to room to check. The room I was in was okay until we got the all clear. My company knew I was furry after all of they news coverage. Not fun times.
Although I may not understand furries, all of which is just due to not being very informed on it (not against it however, you enjoy what you enjoy.) I think I remember hearing about this and this is just absolutely absurd. I couldn't see this kind of thing happening to many other communities and especially can't see it being mistreated like this one was with reporters just laughing as 19 people were hospitalized. Thankfully it didn't get worse because with the combination of literal Mustard gas and the freezing cold people could have died. Glad you are okay and please do continue to bring attention to these kind of events.
Its the equivalent of an attack at a pride parade. I wish more people outside the fandom understood that. With a large majority of the fandom being queer this could honestly be considered a hate-crime, but because it took place at a furry convention it wasn’t seen as that. Even if it was an attack on a pride event or another queer space, in 2014 I bet reporters and the general public would’ve reacted with the same laughter anyways.
i used to hate furries but now i think i'm becoming a furry "you become what you swore to destroy" proven true anyways, very fortunate for you that you made it out alive
This was also the first time a ton of people first found out about the existence of the furry community including the mainstream news reporters who reported on the incident.
People who dislike other communities are fine but people who abuse other communities are actually even worse than something very evil … idk I couldn’t think of said thing 😢
Some people says it was a failed attempt to make a d**g but im convinced it was an antifur I mean how can you do m*****d gas by failing at mixing some no legal substances but you were there so im curious to know your point of view About that
I have heard a lot of theories over the years. I feel like it could have been a lot of different things but the most likely scenario to me is an accidental mixing of chemicals.
The actuality (as reported by Patch O' Fur and covered in the podcast Fur and Loathing) that it was more than likely the confederate fursuit guy as he has a history with stink bombs. The only reason it's been diluted into being "Just an accident" is how poorly the materials being investigated were handled and the general mishandling of the entire case.
I took a class that focused on a whole week about chlorine bombs and I did a report on the affects. The fact that they did that, killing, traumatizing, and injuring hundreds if not THOUSANDS of people. And then the news reporters basically making fun of it? I bet all my money that if it was anything but a furry convention, they wouldn’t have been so disrespectful. It makes me so angry to think that others think that just because they were cute animal costumes, furries are any less then people and can’t be injured by one of the most, if not the most, deadly chemicals to ever be made by humans.
Fur and Loathing podcast did some great work getting documents out of the feds. There was a video team with him too and I don't think I ever saw anything come from them.
Thinking back, of the 22 cons I've physically attended in the past 15 years, I only recall hearing the fire alarm once (2 cons ago). I'd never considered it was a common occurrence outside the 4 groups/6 event spaces… (elevator issues on the other claw…)
To me. Chicago would be south. Maybe a tad warmer. Its best to stay moving in the cold. Gets the blood moving... And wearing multiple shirts... Thats some Wisconsin winter wisdom for ya Glad to hear you got out alright btw.
No, they did not. I guarantee that if it was any other community or fandom, they wouldn't have laughed. But because it's furries, it's all jokes and laughs despite the gravity of the situation.
It’s sad that this incident happened but thankfully and hopefully MFF has probably put in some big installments and measurements to be sure this doesn’t happen again, thankfully no one was killed but definitely would’ve put me on edge if I was there.
Only later having heard summaries of the police, fire, and FBI reports do I understand just how dire the situation was. That only 19 people where hospitalized is a miracle. MFF keeps growing which is a testament to the strength of the fandom. This assault didn't phase us a bit.
I'm just glad you are okay, as other comments have stated. I went to MFF from 2010 to 2013, and wanted to go in 2014 especially because it would have been happening over my 18th birthday but kept forgetting to make the plans til it was too late 🫣 And, well... you know. Bullet dodged and all.
It was a rough experience but one that really impacted how I view the community as a whole. It honestly was probably the catalyst for my own works with documentary.
Oh so you're telling me we could find the guy who did 9/11 but we can't find a guy who did a chlorine gas attack in a hotel. Is there not cameras? Because if it was an HVAC system, he would have most likely had to go up towards the roof, if not in a place where there's a shitload of security measures

It was insane to me that almost everyone treated it like a joke despite the seriousness of it all
i used to hate furries but now i think i'm becoming a furry
"you become what you swore to destroy" proven true
anyways, very fortunate for you that you made it out alive
When I hear the words "gas attack", it's usually because I farted in a confined space and coworkers can't take the heat.
Omfg baph
This was also the first time a ton of people first found out about the existence of the furry community including the mainstream news reporters who reported on the incident.
People who dislike other communities are fine but people who abuse other communities are actually even worse than something very evil … idk I couldn’t think of said thing 😢
And stuff like this is exactly what it’s hard for me to get into other communities 😢
I used to be a anti-furry but even I thought that was too far 😭
Thankfully I was visiting a nearby hotel with a Wild Dog at the time. It was all clear by the time I got back.
glad to hear you were okay
If this had happened to ANY other group of people I know for a fact this would be taken more seriously
how cold must've it been for the suits not being able to warm yall LMAO
Scar The Fur is planning a video that covers the Police and Fire Dept reports
Fur and Loathing podcast did some great work getting documents out of the feds. There was a video team with him too and I don't think I ever saw anything come from them.
@@FoxedAroundSnep whatever video might still be in post production stages now since the audio didn't come out till June.
@@FoxedAroundSnep Turns you can get a copy of those reports from Rosemont right now. Be warned it's over 100 pages long.
Thinking back, of the 22 cons I've physically attended in the past 15 years, I only recall hearing the fire alarm once (2 cons ago). I'd never considered it was a common occurrence outside the 4 groups/6 event spaces… (elevator issues on the other claw…)
I seem to have had a much higher incidence of these experiences. I want to say its happened to us at least 7 times
i went to a furry con (WENT WRONG) (ALMOST DIED)
omg I hope you are okay
To me. Chicago would be south. Maybe a tad warmer. Its best to stay moving in the cold. Gets the blood moving... And wearing multiple shirts... Thats some Wisconsin winter wisdom for ya
Glad to hear you got out alright btw.
I was there 10 years ago too. It's part of why I staff mff now in the emergency management space and first aid.
I'm glad you were okay: but that was a factually stupid decision to ignore the fire alarm 😢
It was an exceptionally stupid decision on my part and one that I am thankful to have learned from
@@AshCoyote I got noticed?! Hello! Really really loved your furry documentary, I've watched it like 7 times now 🤣
and the news reporters didn't help with the situation either. 😡
It was a really scary situation when looking at how it played out
Only later having heard summaries of the police, fire, and FBI reports do I understand just how dire the situation was. That only 19 people where hospitalized is a miracle.
MFF keeps growing which is a testament to the strength of the fandom. This assault didn't phase us a bit.
completely out of interest did you grab the suit(s) oh and totally off topic but i frigging love your neon coyoty wall sign whered you get it?
We left our suits because they were drying out from our suiting session and we honestly thought it was just a drill.
I thought maybe this video was being made now because of the podcast "Fur & Loathing" about their search for the true culprit behind the attack.
I think I’m just gonna put a gas mask that also filters smoke out on to my fursuit from now on.
6:27 Furry Pawbsicles 😋
I'm just glad you are okay, as other comments have stated. I went to MFF from 2010 to 2013, and wanted to go in 2014 especially because it would have been happening over my 18th birthday but kept forgetting to make the plans til it was too late 🫣 And, well... you know.
Bullet dodged and all.
It was a rough experience but one that really impacted how I view the community as a whole. It honestly was probably the catalyst for my own works with documentary.
To be honest, I don’t understand why the news reporters were laughing about something that could cause death.
Wild that this happened 10 years ago
makes me feel OLD AF
I can’t believe they laughed! Like that’s wrong
Man that hella suck Ash I’m glad you’re safe
me too
Im excited for june
So tiny room wasn’t the tardis then?
It was so packed in that room
I would be so scared how did you stay so calm
My system updated
Good
i heard about this, im glad you're ok
hate has gone too far these days
Oh so you're telling me we could find the guy who did 9/11 but we can't find a guy who did a chlorine gas attack in a hotel. Is there not cameras? Because if it was an HVAC system, he would have most likely had to go up towards the roof, if not in a place where there's a shitload of security measures
A good number of us believe it was an orchestrated attack, and that whoever did it knew where the cameras were located.
usa
too real
Ur not wrong lol
I’m trying not to use the word hate as much, but those reporters do kinda infuriate me. Laughing at people who just got attacked? That’s messed up.
I’m sorry you guys went through that, and I hope y’all are doing okay today! ❤❤❤❤
Dang… everything is going downhill these days.
The heck is wrong with people 😡
What night did this happen!? I was at mff though I stayed at a different hotel. In fact, i think i saw you there in partial fursuit. Should have said something and asked if it was ok to get a pic with you.😅 though you were moving fast so all i did was wave, then you were gone from the convention center lobby.
I want to say the alarms went off late Saturday night or early morning Sunday. I know we were able to get back into our rooms Sunday morning
@AshCoyote must have happened sunday morning. My roommate didn't get back until after 1am. And it's like a 15 minute drive back to our room.
0:26 i thought it was a shower
I'm so sorry that there are people as awful as this in the world 💚💙💜
OMG!
i heard about it, but this is insane!
It was a wild experience
This will be the reason i dont watch news.
U think this was bad (which i agree, it was, and am happy you're okay)? Rainfurrest says, 'hold my 🍺'. OwO
When I think of gas attack I think of the trenches of WW1 over 100 years ago not something that is a thing in the 21st century in the US
Aishera pony or whatever is not a good person fyi...I have trusted resources that have proved that..
hah i remember that famous TV report about it 😂😂😂
Its pretty cursed
@AshCoyote i am not sure which one you mean? Like right in the place at that time? I was mentioning that morning show or what was it, where that lady saw furries for the first time and nearly dies laughin😄
Why would they do that 😭
Because anti=furry hate groups think it's perfectly fine to unleash a gas that can KILL PEOPLE.
All because they hate furries.
FURRYS ARE STILL PEOPLE!
I gotta be lowkey honest, I'm glad yall safe. But that incident was fucked up. If being honest.
My god, is this furry drama tasty!!
why can't people just let people be! to be honest, if you want to dress as an animal and have fun doing it, who am i to judge
hell, most fun iv had drinking are with suiters
@@jessdank7832 exactlyyyy!! its literally just recreational mascoting! It's for fun!
as a furry, i have two 'sonas, the first being the one my bf drew for me and the second being my current profile, i drew it myself and i feel like i sort of got what i was trying to do
i can remain perfectly calm during emergencies but im also pretty dumb so i dont acctually pay attention to important details like how cold it is outside, i would die of cold before the chlorophorm got me
When you told us you grabbed everything you could to protect you from the cold I wanna just grab my fursuit and ran like bro it's very warm That should keep you warm I'm gonna just jump into my fursuit and ran But I wasn't in the situation so I cannot understand how you were processing everything so I won't be I won't try to be mean
Classical response to fire alarm i see
yay furries
Adding this incident to my collection of "evidence the humen race is screwed"
I saw this in my recommended and went: “the what now?”
how the frick do you burn coffee?!
....what.
Poggers trans woman.
