Hey SMM - Maybe I'm just paranoid because an employer a few years ago brought up something from my past that they found in a background check. I explained it away as a youthful indiscretion and actually got the job and did very well. I haven't seen anyone list this as a reason for ghosting but I really have to wonder.
Last week I had a few companies get back to me, did two phone screens and assignments for both, received great praise from both companies on my resume, interview, and follow up assignments. Very impressed! kind of replies. One of the positions even communicated that I'd be interviewing with the person whom I'd directly report if I got the position, and I put in my availability on line, and sent an email to the hiring mgr notifying her that I did so. The time we were supposed to have the phone interview was either yesterday or TODAY.
Both of these companies ghosted me this week and it just seems too coincidental that they both showed so much interest up front, then roughly 5 business days after initial contact - crickets. - Any thoughts?

Cheers for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Dinanlinson Face Blossoming Approach (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for revealing the secret to master interviews and get the job minus the normal expense. Recruiters are nothing but sales people trying to make a margin/profit of the back of the worker who goes with out benefits. Every hour a candidate works is a billable hour.
If you contact a candidate, just don't ghost. Be upfront and don't be an asshole raising people's hopes. Especially now during covid. If you're a recruiter that does that... go to hell. :-)

Seriously!! Like I know jobs aren’t going to hire everyone but they can at least let it be known that they aren’t hiring anymore or tell the candidate that the spot has been filled so the person can find another job! And it’s really selfish of them to let people come in and do a interview knowing they’re most likely not going to hire them😭 I have anxiety and I literally have to force myself to walk in and act confident just to not hear back! It really bothers me

    • @nunya8

@@hibye9912 I have an answer to that. Just keep bettering your interview process. It is much like sales where your process has to be tight. Keep interviewing and have great questions. Never leave with out the contact information of the person interviewing (seriously write their name down and email). Always have follow up timeframe to get an answer. Looks up these people on LinkedIn in. Be persistent. Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Fill up your week with prospects. Do mock interviews. Keep working at it. Work on your weaknesses. Ghosting is a real problem in the recruiting world. We recruiters HAVE to hold ourselves to better standards and communicate with candidates. If we're on hold or someone is out of town or the needs of the role are changing, a little transparent communication goes a very long way with candidates, who simply want to be--and deserve to be--in the loop.

Ghosting is a big problem..especially now during the pandemic. Companies need to respect people who are interviewing with them and their time as well. Having multiple interviews with a company, different departments, different management levels and when they invite you for a final interview and later cancel and just ghost you. That’s really hurtful because you invested so much time in that entire process, the least they can do is provide a proper answer instead of ghosting people like nothing happened.

Nope. Except with dating, even at the lowest point of our relationship.. I can still interact with her and can try to change the outcome. I can apologize and ask for an apology, I can adjust to what she needs and in turn she needs to know what I need too.
While job searching? Not so much. The job application that I've sent online/by mail to company A get no response.. then nothing that I can do to change the situation. You can't even know what is the exact reason why your job application is rejected despite the motivation and suitability of your qualifications with the job requirements.

I did this twice when they were considering me a strong candidate. I didnt see the need for replying their mails asking me reason for the decision. Hiring manager was furious with the HR team because she knew that it was something related to HR team that changed my decision. HR team called me several times and CC ed the hiring managers in emails they sent ti me. I intentionally didnt reply because I didnt want to help the HR team. I treat everyone as they treat me. I agree you should never give up your job search until you start the new job, but I have to say, as someone with a LOT of experience doing job searching over my career that a company that doesn't communicate with you is not only one that you don't want to work for, but one that you should warn your friends about. Sugarcoat it and excuse it all day long if it makes you feel better, but a company that doesn't keep you in the loop is NEVER one you really want to work for because there is no excuse for rudeness, and ghosting is the modern-day word for impolitely ignoring someone. It happens in dating and in the job search process (which are arguably similar), so don't waste your time with people who aren't as into you as you are them, and move along. Like in dating, there is always a slim chance that someone could change their mind about you, but how likely is it? In my experience I'd put it at less than 1%, maybe .1%. Job searching is super exhausting, so why waste your limited resources (time)?

  • @AntiMasonic93

In my experience, it’s a good indicator of what’s under the hood if you’re not hearing back.
One offer I received after a period of silence led me to suspect decision paralysis - that the team really didn’t know what they’re looking for, or how to solve a problem - I felt confident I could contribute and remedy that, so I accepted. However, after I joined I saw how many issues there really were.
The company was sinking fast due to lawsuits from clients. They’d laid off an entire department recently, and within a month, they wanted to change my role to one that would focus solely on sales. Ultimately I had to walk.

The first department I interviewed for is in decision paralysis, but she is now getting me interviews for another department. She said, worst case scenario, the other department gets it together and you have to pick. But she has been calling me whenever she gets an update and it is the best interaction I've had while job searching of my life. Needless to say, it's a company I would love to work for. While the recruiter has been amazing and responsive, I've been following up and it seems they're keeping me on the hook. I got word that there's still no update but that she would keep me informed. On one hand, I think it's a good sign that they care enough to update me but on the other hand, I don't feel so great about being strung along. It makes a lot of sense when the tables turned, when i was recruiting for roles.
From screening all the resumes, shortlisting those that fits the requirements, rounding the list out to my boss, and waiting for the candidates that we wanted to interview. It's always get jammed up at the decision maker. All the more when the decision maker couldn't make up his mind. In the end, he hired a former intern. So much effort has gone into the hiring process. Sometimes, there wasn't much time to reply to follow-up emails. As HR work was just a small part of my work.
It sucks to be on the job seeker end of the table.

    Hi Madeline,
I regularly watch your videos which is very helpful. I have one question for you.
I have recently gone through one interview after completing my interview, I got mail from HR about thank you mail for attending interview and says that " As I mentioned, we want to discuss with the team prior to moving forward in the recruiting process. Our Operations Director is currently on holidays, returning next week. We will be in touch early next week to give you an update, after the long weekend!" this statement. Does it look like positive sign? I need your comments about this. Thank you

This sort of behavior really makes good employers look amazing. I recently got a rejection letter within one week. They basically said "You interviewed well, we offered another great candidate a job, and we may have new opportunities you could apply for soon." Their quick process and good communication have me checking the job board for those possible openings. If they treat me well after they have talked to for 30 minutes, then they are much more likely to treat me well when they see me 5 days a week.

Hi, I was first interviewed on 17th March and I forgot to ask the date I should expect to hear from them. After a week, I sent a follow-up email and received a mail to meet Senior Managers on April 6th. I was interviewed with CEO and Vice President Sales and also asked for the timeline. This time she said I will get the decision on April 9th; however, I am still awaiting it.FYI, they sent me the PIBA assessment post-interview and called my one reference the same day of the interview; however, my second reference got a call from HR but didn't pick. My second reference has called back twice but HR didn't pick up and he sent a good voice mail. My first reference gave positive feedback though.
What should I do in this case?

90% of modern recruiters/hiring managers are lazy or incompetent. It takes a couple of seconds to send out an email thanking candidates for their time and wishing them luck. At this point in time candidates can give feed back on review forums like Google reviews, Indeed.. even Yelp. Be respectful yet honest and don't name individuals but let the world know that this company ghosted you and give them a negative review. It's funny a couple of years ago I read a negative review about a company ghosting a candidate but decided to interview with them anyway. Low and behold they did the same thing to me. I left them a negative review detailing my experience and YEARS later the CEO of the company replied to my post apologizing and asking if I would like to do another interview. I had already moved on but that is an example of holding companies accountable for bad behavior.

When companies want to hire, they don't waste time. If there are too many interviews and then in the end they stop responding, there is something going on with the company and the hiring process, and they are not in a hurry to fill the role, so it's really not that big a deal.

Months ago a recruiter set me up for a phone interview. I sat in front of my PC waiting and e-mailed the recruiter. The recruiter told me to wait, that he's trying to get me an interview. Ultimately, the company ghosted me for the interview process, and I think he was trying to find someone else to interview me on the spot - not even get them to call me.
After nearly a year of these recruiters (of a certain overseas nationality) I literally told them off, screamed at them to stop calling me because they never found me a single job - good, bad, temp or otherwise. Not only did they stop calling, but NO ONE (of a certain overseas nationality) called me. Some of these people call for "equality" sake but only give the job to their own kind. I know that for a fact.

I'm willing to believe that 95% percent of you job applicants here are absolutely qualified for the job you applied for. The fact that you are actually watching this video is you questioning yourself and questioning the process and it's procedures automatically makes you a smart person. You know yourself better than anyone, and what your true potential is. Any time an employer goes "on the dumb" is usually a sign that the employer is numb to the process, partly due to internal politics, or one senior person is just holding up the whole process. My experience is there are two kinds of employers: the big corporations that have been in business for years, and have enough network of people, and the small companies, some startups, with young recruiters inexperienced with the hiring process.
