      @@PrimericanIdolYou’d be surprised that there’s far worse in terms of spelling, grammar, word choice and punctuation in online postings and text messages these days. Communication standards have declined some over time. Hopefully no one is doing this in their cover letters or CVs.

      I can't take someone seriously if they can't bother to spell things correctly and check their grammar before posting. Especially when they try to sound intelligent.
      And YES. You can tell the difference between the spelling and grammatical errors non-native foreign speakers make, and the errors that native speakers make, and have no excuses in making.

    I just had a interview with a job that I have experience in. The interview went well it was about 30 minutes. They really gave great details about the job so at the end he asked me if I had any questions. I said no that I was satisfied with everything. I was told that they had other candidates to interview as they have 4 positions to fill. I believe that because as I walked in he was on the phone setting up appointments for people to be interviewed. I think I'm over thinking the entire thing now.

    I expressed excitement for the role early on in the interview, so they did not sell me on the job (I did feel like I built a good rapport with the interviewers). Also, I did skip one question, that I returned to later with an ok, but not great answer. Other than that, I felt it went well because the other signs were all favorable. I do not feel confident in getting the role because they are interviewing 16 people for 4 positions (we are all internal). If it were an external posting, the competition would be higher. It's tough out there folks, good luck.

    Last phone interview felt strange. It was like they laid out everything too easily. It is a 10-figure company. We went the full 30 minutes though. They only asked me two times about my experience. Right off the bat they already told me the salary. I didn't even have the chance to ask my more important questions; for example: why they're hiring, benefits, and future career goals; because they answered all that when they told me the position opened up due to a promotion. Supposedly an upcoming round 2 interview. I like to leave the smaller questions for emails, and they got back to me the same days.

    No, there's a lot I don't agree with here. Maybe because I'm in software engineering and it's different, but for example when you say it's bad to say "I don't know" for an answer, that's actually not a bad answer at all. Not the best, but it's even worse to start guessing out their ass. My past companies have actually recruited these people for being honest.

      Thank you for your perspective. I also interview and hire swe's. But for any job interview, if your full answer to an interview question is "sorry, I don't know", it will not go well. You can say that you don't know, but then you should start to whiteboard a potential solution or explain how you would try to approach the problem and ask for feedback. Our engineering managers would prefer you try something so we can see your thought process and how you handle new problems rather than give up and ask to skip a question

    If you "skipped" a question i.e. didn't have an answer to it that has to be an automatic fail. In other words if one of the questions was "Tell me about your experience as a group leader or instructor" and you don't have that, you are never going to be hired. You have to have an answer to all questions, otherwise you are not remotely qualified, that is a dead ringer, don't give them a reason not to hire you that is that easy.

      @CareerShakers  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's definitely not a good sign! But sometimes you can recover by sending a follow up email answering the question and hoping it's enough to "save" you. Always worth a try!

    So why in the hell do they waste your time when you can go look somewhere else

    • @CareerShakers
      @CareerShakers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They aren't wasting your time on purpose- based on your resume, first interview, or referral they thought you would be a good fit for the job. But then your interviews didn't go as well as they hoped so they aren't moving forward.

      @@CareerShakersWell, what you said is precisely why you need to apply to dozens, if not hundreds of positions at a time, so you land enough interviews to have multiple options in the event you start getting offers.
      It also doesn't help you when you're literally getting compared to other candidates who may be orders of magnitude more experienced than you.

      @@PrimericanIdol The volume definitely helps! Try to customize your resumes as much as possible though so you give yourself the best chance and don't get blacklisted

    Group interviews are a classic sign that you’ll never get the job group interviews are a way organizations use to eliminate the candidates they’re pretending to hire all while the position has already been filled internally. I’ve been to a few group interviews in 2008 and wish I had just walked off. One was at the ministry of justice in my old home country of new Zealand I arrived and was left waiting on a 100 degree room with 10 other applicants they kept us there 30 plus mins over the scheduled interview time. They kept us in an office where we had to say who we were etc some were very scripted meaning that they already work there and are pretending to be interviewed. They then kept us in for 5-8 hours without letting us leave for lunch there were “note takers” in the room however the guy sitting behind me who was supposed to be taking down notes was only pretending to write his pen wasn’t even clicked down he was writing on his paper not writing anything at all. then we got interviewed finally at the end which was just fake and then once I got the rejection call later that evening I told them that I knew that was all fake and waste of my time.

      Sorry you had that experience!
      But not every panel/group interview is a sign that you aren't getting the job. I know lots of companies who all require every candidate to do a presentation and group interview. This is very common for consulting companies and strategy & operations roles
