      @@hop-skip-ouch8798 Every single one of Voiceplay's and Geoff's songs are recorded and mastered in-studio separately, then the videos are filmed lipsynched to the master track. Goes for most big name groups; this is why you don't see microphones in the shots. These are productions, not recordings of live events done in one take, so there's going to be plenty of "unnatural" editing and overlays. Still amazing and the artists' voices though!

    The great thing about this group is, Geoff is simply the gateway drug. Once you get sucked in you start to realize that every single one of these guys are vocal monsters, and even the folks they choose to collab with are ridiculously talented as well (a few that come to mind: Rachel Potter, Deejay Young, John Pinto Jr., Ashley Diane). Layne Stein, as well as being one of the best vocal percussionists out there, also provides about half of the arrangements VoicePlay uses. (Geoff does the other half, with a few exceptions). Eli, who generally sings second tenor, can wail in the upper register, then drop down and fill in a bass line while Geoff solos when they're performing live. He can also do some of the best and most distinct sung character voices you've ever heard, and then turn around and whip out a rock and roll riff with just the right amount of rasp.

One of their other classics that illustrates their depth and crazy aptitude in acapella (as well as their zany sense of humor) was one that I saw several years ago right after the SingOff, called "Road Trip." It's so fun to laugh until you hurt while being completely astounded and blown away at the mad skills these guys possess.

    The dog's name is Zero.
    They have 4 Night Before Christmas vids: this one, "Kidnap the Sandy Claws", "This is Halloween" and "What's This". They are all awesome, you should check them out.
    VoicePlay members: Layne Stein, beatboxer - Geoff Castellucci, bass - Eli Jacobson, tenor (pronounced like Ellie) - Earl Jenkins Jr, high tenor (left a year ago for personal reasons) - J None, baritone (left a few months ago to join the Navy Band), Cesar de la Rosa, baritone (new member, not seen here, joined after J None left).
    Geoff, Layne and Earl started the group back in 1997, and Eli joined in 2010 or 2011. Geoff and Layne do most of their arrangements. They have all been around for a long time, and work together very well. They describe VP as "Original. Imaginative. Ridiculous. A Cappella.". To me, they are the best out there. I also love Home Free and like Pentatonix and Voctave, but VP is higher than all others, to me.
    Geoff also has solo vids, all amazing. Check his "Sixteen Tons", or his latest "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold". His vocal range is awesome! (5 octave, I believe) The highest I heard from him is in "Toxic Audio performing "Grace Kelly" at LHP", towards the end. His lowest is ... in so many places I can't count!
    I love your reactions!

    Everyone wants to see this reaction for Geoff's final note necessarily, it's so "inhuman" and grabs everyone the first time ^^. But if you want to see its range, I recommend Blackbird or Hight and Dry on its own channel instead. But for another voiceplay video, I think many would recommend Moana Medley or Little Mermaid Medley, they are fine indeed, but personally I think one of their most recent would be good for comparison. "We're good", "Bang", "Butter" or "If I was a rich man / girl" are good covers. Or if you want to do the splits and see something that must have been tricky to set up, "Just Sing" might do the trick. It was during quarantine and they invited all their singing friends and who they collaborated with for this one, to see with the subtitle / caption for the info on each person (and some funny commentary).

    At 6:05 it's a 2 octave jump. The ending is a 2 octave and a 5th descending line. They did do a fantastic job with the music video. They like doing a lot of spooky so you're covered for October.

    This one is always a “must watch” reactors reaction for me! It’s so much fun watching first reactions! Voice Play, for me, has surpassed PTX, in my ranking of my fav A Capella groups. Not because of this video (I’ve seen it many times). They’re in my #2 spot right below Home Free. Speaking of Home Free and their bass, Tim Foust; he and Geoff have the same 5+octave range. I learned from the rumor mill years ago that Tim helped both Geoff and Avi hone their bass skills to sing lower than they did before he met them. Anyway, I really enjoyed your reactions and reviews on this one!! Looking forward to Christmas music time! Home Free has some really great holiday tunes/videos, too!

      You're right about Tim helping them. Geoff even has mentioned it in one of his tutorial vids on YT. He says that he's a natural baritone, but has learned how to go lower without hurting himself. He now does the tutorial vids to help others learn what he learned from Tim. Tim has even worked with the other guys in HF (like Chance & Chris when he was still in the group) on how to go lower. He tried to help even Austin do it, but Austin almost hurt himself so he doesn't even try now.
      During the season 4 Sing Off when VP was in competition with Home Free (Home Free won), even the judges mention that Tim was the ONLY true bass competing that season. The others were baritones that could occasionally hit the lower octaves but not sustain them. Tim worked with them after the competition. On HF's Ring of Fire feat Avi Kaplan cover, the symbolism of Avi Kaplan @ the end is awesome. Most people totally miss it.

    Geoff has gummy worms fall out of his mouth when he sings "make snake and spider stew" (around 4:39 of so) and most folks miss it. Love your reactions. Go back and look for the gummies.

    VoicePlay's Just Sing is a beautiful quarantine-mass-choir number that you have to have your close captions on to ID everyone singing. The 1st person you see is the young daughter of the man who's playing Sandy Claws here. They're also the brother and niece of Kathy, Geoff's lovely wife.

    Glad to see you got his little run at 8:49. Did you catch the tone he did at 9:16 and 9:21? It wasn't while he was visually singing, it was part of the background 'instrumentation', but it was all Mr Castellucci!

    That jump Geoff does, that is a two octave jump. The note he hits at the end is an E1. That is five keys from the bottom of the keyboard. He does it with subharmonics, he does a video on it.

  • @RedSig226
    @RedSig226 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    that last note was an E1 (the first E on the left side of a piano) That makes that phrase a 4 octave drop.

    that last note Geoff sings is an E1 flat, godsdamn

    The last note Geoff hits is called a subharmonic which is a type of throat singing . It's playing 2 notes at once .

  • @OGSontar
    @OGSontar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That last note by Geoff was an E1, the lowest E on a full 88 key piano keyboard. My count may be off, but I get 5 octaves out of that last part. That's a major range indeed.

    All three of the amazing acapella bases (Geoff, Tim and Avi) have obscene ranges and absolutely fantastic lead or solo voices - not saying react to it but at least check out some of Avi Kaplans solo stuff its just really nice.. (well and check out Homefree Mayday.. just because...)

    Great reaction! It’s such a fun video. VoicePlay has a handful of Halloween videos you can line up for October 🎃 Little Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ and Moana Medleys are great. The Boy Bands in 5 minutes you can sign along to 🎶 Tennessee Whiskey is my favorite.

    Sweet, you caught it. We only get about 1 in 10 who catch that, even with pausing and going back. You know how PTX is Christmas? That is Voiceplay for Halloween. Literally, they have a whole Halloween album worth of songs, and the last two years we have gotten a bonus since Geoff started his "Solo" videos during lockdown last year. You will understand the quotation marks once you see. But welcome to the DEEP rabbithole that is Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci.

    Well done. Love another great reaction from you two. It's a great start but if you're going to open up a VoicePlay rabbit hole, may I make some suggestions? "Road Trip (an oldie but goodie from just after their SingOff days-great sense of humor)," "Tennessee Whiskey," and "Can't Help Falling In Love." Plus they do awesome mashups: "Queen in 5 Minutes," "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes," and anything Disney (heroes, villians, sidekicks...). And for your Christmas to-do list, their version of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"

    You guys are great. Another amazing song that shows voiceplays incredible range is their version of "my mother told me," a viking song with guest singer Josê Rosario. 👌
