      @@rosemorris7912 My first exposure to Geoff was his solo arrangement of Misty Mountain Cold. Quite the welcome. I'm throwing my money at Voice Play now. The whole group is fantastic, but it can definitely be said that Geoff's voice is the only irreplaceable voice in the group. True basses, especially basses that clear, smooth and low, are 10,000,000 tenors to 1.

    The Nightmare Before Christmas is a movie, and yes they are doing all the voices, the beatboxer is doing all the percussion and sound effects, and Geoff the bass singer has a 5 octave range.

    You'll find that a lot of us are crossover fans with Voice Play, Home Free, and Pentatonix. And the basses are 1 reason. Geoff, Tim, and Avi are all friends and Tim helped Geoff and Avi expand their ranges. My ultimate collaboration would be those 3 together. They all have similar ranges but they all have very different sound and texture to their voices. I can only imagine how viral that video would be! Great reaction. One of my favorites from Voice Play is Carry on Wayward Son and a couple of Geoff's songs from his channel are 16 Tons, The Headless Horseman, and Saddle Up.

      I have to throw my vote in for Layne Stein, beatbox and sweetest baritone ever. That's all impressive, but what catches me every time are Layne's arrangements. Geoff's arrangements are smooth as butter, but when I hear a new song and find myself leaning forward to hear every note, I know it's one of Layne's.

In addition, he has some great covers like Blackbird, Take Me Home, Headless Horseman and my personal Fave, Sixteen Tons.
    Also, VP has some awesome Disney Medleys of Moana and Little Mermaid. Carry on Wayward Son, We're Good, the cover they dropped from Fiddler on the Roof (Wish I was a Rich Man / Girl feat Ashley Diane) the other day are some other quality songs. Who 'nother world to dig into! I'm excited!

Yes, they all really do those voices...its not using a voice changer. Yes, Geoff really does go low and then "belt for Jesus". He has a 5 octave range that's really damn impressive. And he can drop from the top of his range to the bottom that quickly....and the top of his range isn't even in this song! He is crazy 😂 Typically when you hear him go super low, it’s a subharmonic note, which is a technique in which you sing the note an octave above what you want to hit, and then relax your voice, and physics causes the note an octave lower to sound : ) It sounds so so cool, and might just be dark magic. Geoff is probably the best current bass or best a cappella bass at this.
    Typically when you hear Tim Foust of Home Free go super super low, it’s a growl note, which is a technique also known as fire breathing, kind of hard to explain, but is the same as the name would suggest. Tim is probably the best at these, and even taught Geoff how to do them!
    And then Avi Kaplan, the former bass of Pentatonix, just has a beautiful super low voice, doesn’t use many of these techniques except for effect.
    Some other bass techniques used by beatboxers include throat bass, ingressive phonation(inwards singing), and lip roll bass : ) Which are useful for the beatboxer of Home Free because he’s a tenor!

  • @nzlemming

    • @lrfcowper
      @lrfcowper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two of them are friends. Tim shows up in the VP cover of "Just Sing" and there's a mini bass battle in it. Watch it with their subtitles turned on -- they tell who everyone is and also make a couple hilarious comments. Tim and Geoff have similar ranges but use different techniques to hit the low low notes. Geoff is using a technique called subharmonics. Tim uses growl or sometimes fry, but is noteworthy for the control (a lot of folks can use growl to go nearly as low as Tim, but not on pitch) and length of time he can hold a note. Also, if you've missed it, Zombies vs. Hillbillies: Survivor with VP & HF. No bass battle, but they both show off.

    You need to listen to "mayday" by home free but not yet you should do a few more other songs by them to really appreciate how good mayday is and how talented they all really are. It shows how high Tim their Bass singer can really sing as well.

    Yes Geoff Castelluci is amazing! Tim Foust from Home Free actually helped and worked with him!
