Santa is Geoff’s brother in law but santa’s voice was recorded by Eli. If I’m remembering correctly. Best line in reaction “I didn’t know I needed sexy Oogie Boogie, but I do.”
I know there have been other videos in which Geoff has sung higher and lower notes. But I still feel like this one gives the strongest impression of how incredible his range is and how (seemingly) effortlessly he can move through it at will. Also, it shows off how good he is at character voices, which isn't necessarily the first thing that comes to mind with him.
Try his solo version of “Ain’t No Sunshine” if you haven’t seen it already. There is a moment where he drops like three or four octaves just to bounce right back up. It’s so freaking casual and effortless that it doesn’t just seem real. It’s when you first see him up and walking.

Yeah he was, lol. It’s funny though; Layne makes him do that. Pay attention to who does what arrangements. Whenever Geoff is being extreme, you can just about bet Layne did the arrangement. Both Eli and Earl have had the same problem. I think it was Eli fussing about Layne writing him a part sopranos would wince at.
@@Gael4ce I know. Lol. My comment was purely in jest. At the same time, someone shouldn't be that handsome, with a full head of gorgeous hair, while being able to sing higher than 80s glam rockers and lower than most bass singers. Life isn't fair. 🤣🤣
VoicePlay definitely owns Halloween in the a capella world. From the early days with The Phantom of the Opera to last year's Hide and Seek, their Halloween videos all go above and beyond. Also something to keep an eye out for is that Layne is obsessed with Carrots. There are numerous videos where he tries to sneak a carrot into the video.
@@dj_410 even though it came first ( I believe ) you must do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of. Kidnap The Santa Claus. It is too funny & Geoff's low notes are sure to please. Guarantee you will love it. The Santa is Geoff's father in-law. Elie does the voice of Santa.
The Hall of the Mountain King is a fun romp. They tell a story of the Hall of the Mountain King without using words. It's brilliantly entertaining and in many places, quite funny.
Mountain King is amazing on so many levels. Mischievous Cesar is wonderful. I didn't know that I needed opera-singer Eli in my life, but yeah, I definitely did. The carrot lord is in top form, and Geoff is, well, he's Geoff. The featured guest is just, I mean, every featured guest VP works with is incredibly talented, but ... those *pipes* ... they outdid themselves on the set and make-up and lighting, even more than usual; the script for the video, and the way the vocals correlate and dovetail so perfectly with what is going on on screen, and just... just everything. If anything can top Hoist for me, it's gotta be Mountain King.
Two videos of Geoff’s you MUST watch are Way Down and Ain’t No Sunshine. If you think Geoff is sexy in Oogie Boogie, those two will make you spontaneously combust. 😁
This was the video that started my VoicePlay journey. Those last 20 seconds blew my mind. Someone needs to write a Viking movie and Geoff and Layne can write the score and VoicePlay does the entire soundtrack.
I love that everyone reacts to the E1 note at the end and rewinds that part 3 or 4 times. You were blown away by Geoff’s high start of the final and did that 3 times before even getting to the E1. :)
Don't you DARE to go a month or two without a VoicePlay and Geoff reaction!!! 😂 The thing with this video is that every time you watch it, you notice something new that you haven't noticed before!!! 😊
Geoff's first high note was a G#4. The high note at the end is a B4. For a bass to hit these notes full voice is truly incredible! His last deep note was an E1 (the first E on the piano keyboard).
@@par500dragon7 I don't have a link for it, but Geoff did a video on his channel on how he hits notes below his normal range. I'd love to hear him do some stuff from Phantom of the Opera (because that, too, was written for a baritone with a vast range).
You've made it into the group of reactors broken and put back together by this song, a definite milestone for your reactor career! I anticipated your reaction to the E1 note at the end and you did not disappoint! Also, Geoff-as-Oogie-Boogie's sexiness takes everyone by surprise. :)
This arrangement by Layne required Geoff's full range, highest to lowest note (at the time). Layne makes him stretch, and Geoff says either that Layne hates him or that Layne is an a-hole. But the results are always fabulous. Pasquale (Santa) is Kathy's brother and has a good voice-- the siblings performed together in an a cappella group in college. But that's Eli providing Santa's voice. If you want to see Geoff slide through octaves seemingly without effort, watch Ain't No Sunshine. And if you liked Oogie Geoff, wait until you see Janitor Geoff in Way Down. Have the captions on and keep watching until the Patreon list appears. Looking forward to your reaction to This is Halloween!

From the boiler room in the basement to the 5th floor penthouse and back; Geoff takes the trip up like a rocket, and then takes 4 casual steps, and is back down at the boiler room again. And he's put in the practice to make it look nearly effortless and yet the most artful. Pretty sure a fair amount of people greatly appreciate the talent he brings to any song he wants to sing.
The best reactions to this video come from people who love the movie. I wish I had been able to react to it. But I saw this movie before the internet was big and streaming was better than movie theaters. I owned this movie on VHS.
btw, the laughter at the end of this always reminded me of the goblins in Labyrinth. Which makes me wonder what Geoff would look like as the Goblin King. Bet he would slay that role too.

I was SOOO looking forward to this reaction from you! This song was my introduction to Voiceplay...or as I like to say, my "gateway drug" because I became addicted immediately. I was actually searching for something from Danny Elfman and this came up as a suggestion, and I thought "Ok...acapella Oogie Boogie...why not?" and 2 years later I'm so deep down the rabbit hole, I don't think I will ever find my way out...which is fine because I don't want to escape. LOL Sandy Claws is Geoff's brother in law, Pasquale. Pretty sure they just used him to sit in as Sandy Claws. I believe Eli actually did the voiceover for his lines. Eli, J.None and Earl were Lock, Shock, and Barrel. They also did "What's This?" "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" and "This is Halloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas. I LOVED your childlike joy in the opening of the song. As always, you are so genuine and adorable, and I can't wait for your reactions! You always make me smile :)

I knew those last couple of lines would slay you (they knock me out every time I hear them!) and agree with you about wanting to hear more of Geoff the Rock God - and Eli; he can rock it as well, as you saw in "Nothing Else Matters" and "Dream On". I have no doubt that others have already said this elsewhere in the comments but the chap playing Santa was, I believe, either Geoff's brother or brother-in-law but his voice was overdubbed by Eli. Eli is apparently a very talented voice actor.
The person playing Sandy Claws is Geoff's brother-in-law(I don't know his name, hopefully somelse can answer). His daughter is one of the first people to sing in Voiceplays cover of "Just Sing"

Geoff is way more than a pretty face and a low note, huh? He is beyond what words can describe. All of them are. Your reactions are fantastic as well. Please don't stop reacting to Voice Play.
A little late in the season, but I think you'll love Hide & Seek (Ding Dong) by Voice Play with Lauren Paley. This is the first time I've heard a woman scream on key. Hide & Seek came out at Halloween and is definitely "scary".
Voice play took Disney's Haunted Mansion as the inspiration for their version. You need to do the Bass Gang's version as well. Make sure you have padding on the floor. Marwan all grown up/voice change will be terrifying if he can do what he does now.
I'm so happy to see your reaction to Geoff's high note in this, because most reactors only go crazy over the low note at the end 😃 Also you are not alone at needing sexy Oogie Boogie in your life, Geoff is absolute perfect in this role 😅❤
This is one that I have been waiting for you to get around to. I think this is one of the best VoicePlay songs that shows off Geoff's range. Their rendition of "This is Halloween" is another one that I would recommend. After that maybe take a look at their rendition of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" featuring Elizabeth Garozzo. You might not know the title but I'm sure you know the song.
Now, I was just languishing over what ever You Tube wanted to send me. Then this showed up. After I finished spasming on the floor and was able to think again, I became a Voice Playa! This was the first taste of Voice play for many people.
I'm so excited you got here at last! It was entirely worth the wait to see your brain practically melt out of your ears XD This is probably my favorite reaction yet!
This is absolutely a Geoff song. He's amazing in everything he does, but he really shines in this. They all look like they're having SO MUCH FUN!! Love it. I cackle maniacally every time I listen to his song.
He paused the video three times before the note we were all waiting for. (The last one.) And to make it clear Eli, Eral, and J. None were playing Lock, Shock, and Barrel. Another song you might want to check out is their cover of Grim Grinning Ghosts.
Geoff's voice is just incredible I question sometimes if he is human because it is just so good. His range is out of this world, his voice is so smooth and he has great technique. I concluded that he can do no wrong, he is just perfect and has the voice of an angel (well maybe I should say demon lmao). Thank you for the great reaction as always friend❤
This remains my favorite Geoff and also Halloween themed song. It is so good in every measurable production aspect. The syncopation and character voices are top notch too (bonus points for Eli also voicing Santy claws). So many other arrangement gems too.
I had to laugh as you kept pausing at the end. Knowing this recording as I do, I could just imagine your brain exploding like in "Scanners" when you finally let Geoff finish the phrase! Gotta love this recording, no? Grace to you!
They've done 4 nightmare before Christmas songs 1. Oogie Boogie 2. Kidnap the Sandy Claws (ft Rachel Potter who you saw in little mermaid) 3. This is Halloween 4. What's this This was the first video of theirs I noticed additional comments in the captions. Look at Geoff's low notes at the end.😅 3. What's this
Yeah, we did mention that Geoff has a five-plus-octave range, didn't we? 😃And he drops through *all five* in that last end part. The follow-up to this one is 'This Is Halloween' (the one you heard in preview at the end) - it also has them doing character voices, but there's a lot more actual 'straight' singing in it as well. You'll definitely get a better feel for their voices in that one - especially Earl (I'm willing to bet that, whatever you imagine he'll sound like, it won't be what he DOES sound like!) And of course Eli, Geoff and J.None kill it too - and Layne's beatboxing is insane.
Welcome to Geoff fandom. You remind me of me a year ago, finding Geoff and then VoicePlay. Everything on Geoff's channel is amazing, but his favorite is High and Dry. Shenendoah is brilliant, too, and he did that one for his wife Kathy. Blackbird was the first one that blew me away.
Voiceplay has made a song called ,,Just Sing". Here are all the singers they worked with. If you leave the subtitles on you can read who they are and what song they did with Voiceplay
I totally agree, these guys should be doing MAJOR Broadway musicals and I would ABSOLUTELY watch every one of them over and over over- THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME, LUV THEM!!!!!!!🥰💖
Nope.. no month wait!! I am so glad you got to this!! Amazing!! Yes - this is Halloween - but i know you love you some Queen - check out Queen in 5 minutes - and also look up their old Road Trip. not so much costumes and make up - -but an awesome Road Trip!!

I have played this song at least once a week since I found it early last year, and it was more like 10 times a day at first! The oomph behind that last note still gives me all the Geoff quakes I can handle. Can't wait to see which VP song you do next... another NBC one or Hall of the Mountain King would be fab of course. 💜

If I remember correctly, Santa was played by Geoff's brother-in-law.
Correct. And voiced by Eli.
Honestly a double feature of those two as we get near October would be awesome
I will never stop being amused watching people react to this song. It's always a little treat watching people absolutely lose their ever loving minds.
I'm so happy to see your reaction to Geoff's high note in this, because most reactors only go crazy over the low note at the end 😃 Also you are not alone at needing sexy Oogie Boogie in your life, Geoff is absolute perfect in this role 😅❤
As per usual my response whenever someone says something like “what was that NOTE?” - oh you poor thing you have NO idea lol
Geoff Castellucci at 08:05 looks like the metro train ghost from Patrick Swayze's "Ghost" from 1990. Or Brandon Lee from 1994s "The Crow".
Looking fabulous today, my friend...or technically tomorrow, since it's yesterday here...😂
Aww well you are looking amazing yesterday and today aswell! Aren't we a pair of sexy things!! Haha
@@dj_410 Absolute beasts, the both of us, panting and panty-less thanks to iron-shaking bass!
That was some kind of reaction! Thanks!
I'm so excited you got here at last! It was entirely worth the wait to see your brain practically melt out of your ears XD This is probably my favorite reaction yet!
Geoff has a video on his TikTok of him doing that last "oogie boogie man" live. You should definitely check that out. It's pretty impressive!
This or hoist the colors are most reactors first entry into the rabbit hole that is voiceplay glad you finally reacted to this
I get the feeling that moving forward alot will be Valhalla Calling 2...
You always make me smile with your reactions, lol! Geoff is pretty amazing, isn't he? They all are.
This is absolutely a Geoff song. He's amazing in everything he does, but he really shines in this. They all look like they're having SO MUCH FUN!! Love it. I cackle maniacally every time I listen to his song.
"Every liquid that's in me just vibrated slightly from how deep that man was." 14:08 ---- DJ_410, April 2023
funny phrasing, but, accurate as hell.
I’d like for you to make a compilation of ALL your favorite Geoff moments..so far!! You are GREAT my friend!!❤
Well they just about broke you this time!! 😂❤
So glad you did this! It's gonna be hard to wait to see you watch "This is Halloween"!
Loved your reaction!😊 They are so talented! I can name a lot of videos from them you have to watch haha...in fact, all of them🤔😆
He paused the video three times before the note we were all waiting for. (The last one.)
And to make it clear Eli, Eral, and J.
I know this is an old post but I freaking lost it when the dude said sexy Oogie boogie I was laughing so hard I cried
This remains my favorite Geoff and also Halloween themed song. It is so good in every measurable production aspect. The syncopation and character voices are top notch too (bonus points for Eli also voicing Santy claws). So many other arrangement gems too.
The Bass Gang. Definitely world shaking amazing
He's done it live too. Which was super imprrssive. 🤣🤣🤣
DJ need month to recover.... Also DJ need to watch 5 more times NOW
Once again: it is OK to have a crush on Geoff. 😂❤
"I need a month or two to recover." Good thing VoicePlay releases their big pieces about a month apart.
Geoff appreciates his teammates and Eli is also amazing, absolutely appreciate the lack of individual egos ‼️
I had to laugh as you kept pausing at the end. Knowing this recording as I do, I could just imagine your brain exploding like in "Scanners" when you finally let Geoff finish the phrase! Gotta love this recording, no? Grace to you!
OMG!!! Yes!! No one can beat Geoff as Oogie Boogie man! Holy crap he is so good. I loved this video! Omg, my mind went kaboom at the end.. Geeze 🤯
They've done 4 nightmare before Christmas songs
1. Oogie Boogie
2. Kidnap the Sandy Claws (ft Rachel Potter who you saw in little mermaid)
3. This is Halloween
4. What's this
This was the first video of theirs I noticed additional comments in the captions. Look at Geoff's low notes at the end.😅
3. What's this
Yeah, we did mention that Geoff has a five-plus-octave range, didn't we? 😃And he drops through *all five* in that last end part.
The follow-up to this one is 'This Is Halloween' (the one you heard in preview at the end) - it also has them doing character voices, but there's a lot more actual 'straight' singing in it as well. You'll definitely get a better feel for their voices in that one - especially Earl (I'm willing to bet that, whatever you imagine he'll sound like, it won't be what he DOES sound like!) And of course Eli, Geoff and J.None kill it too - and Layne's beatboxing is insane.
There are 3 more "Nightmare Before Christmas" covers by VoicePlay for you: This Is Halloween (as you saw), What's This?, and Kidnap the Sandy Claws. 😁
Santa was voiced by Eli, and acted by the guy in the credits. Eli is a heckuva voice actor
I loved this reaction. Your reactions are absolutely adorable and so cute, and I love hearing your perspective because you always have such an interesting viewpoint and I just love immersing myself in the perspectives of people whose knowledge base and lived experience are so different than mine. Thank you. 💙
I have played this song at least once a week since I found it early last year, and it was more like 10 times a day at first! The oomph behind that last note still gives me all the Geoff quakes I can handle. Can't wait to see which VP song you do next... another NBC one or Hall of the Mountain King would be fab of course. 💜
Amazingly awesome reaction! Love your videos of Voiceplay!! Definite subscribe.
Sandy Claws is Geoffs' brother-in-law. I love the way they use spouses and family members as extras. They did three of these. Kidnap The Sandy Claws also This Is Halloween. Are you ready for Geoffs' new video this Friday? It's amazing.
"Every liquid that's in me just vibrated slightly from how deep that man was." Dj_410, Out of Context Quote, April 2023 🤪🥰❤
Hahaha honestly tho 😂😂😂
Oh, you haven't seen Geoff as the Baron in Queen in Five Minutes? Hmm... oh lord I can't wait to see that reaction.
Geoff Castellucci...breaker of hearts, slayer of dragons, and one of the funniest and sweetest singers ever! Just wait till you get to Shenandoah..have kleenex ready
The glee on your inner child’s face at the beginning gave me a big smile. Lol. Aaaaand I knew you’d be telling your inner child to run along so you could enjoy the sexiness of Geoff. 😂 These guys truly slay on the theatrics with their cartoon covers. Loooooove it.
If you ever read this, go back to the part where Layne sings "add a little spice" and listen closely to the bass right after that... 🤯 ...Its so crazy and Geoff just standing there like its nothing😅
Lol I knew this would get you real good!😂
Geoff's version of Black Bird will render you comatose!
