  • White Rock WMA - Mulberry River - Ozark National Forest - Dispersed Camping - Camping Arkansas
After exploring the White Rock WMA on my motorcycle, I found an excellent dispersed camping spot to set up camp with my truck camper and visit different areas in the Ozarks while I was there. I loved being camped fairly close to the Mulberry River and I also checked out a waterfall not to far down the road. If you are in the area, you have to check out the Turner Bend Store off of hwy 23. It's a neat little spot for souvenirs and if you're hungry, you can order a sandwich from their deli. Stick around to the end of this video, I did a shout out to two of my subscribers that donated to my channel. Thanks folks for watching!

Really enjoy your videos and thanks for making them so informative to each spot. I'm in N. Houston so Ouachita Forest is only 6 hours from me. I jumped in both feet 1 1/2 yr ago and bought a truck and a slide in camper. I also went with a SxS instead of bike cuz I have a pup that like's the outdoors as much as me. lol. I like to cook but find it tough when camping. I do a lot of HoBo tin foil cooking. I make individual pre-packaged pint freezer bags of different ingredients. Mix whichever I'm in mood for together and wrap in tin foil at camp, then throw directly on fire coals to cook. EX. cut steak bites, mini potatoes, beef rice. Another might be shrimp, tator tots & chicken rice or link sausage cut in bites, hashbrowns & a flavored rice. Easy cooking, minimal prep, hot meal and I'm setting by a fire anyways in the evenings. In case of fire restrictions, I can cook this on small portable propane grill I have as well.

      @DispersedCamperMan  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks! Six hour drive isn't that bad to camp in the Ouachita's. Great area to stay a while and check out the place. I've used tin foil cooking also on a grill. I like spraying tin foil with olive oil and slicing up potatoes and add seasoning to it with butter and cook on grill. Turns out great. I sometimes also do a vegetable medley that same way. The beef and rice really sound good.

Here is one of my fav camping breakfast recipes. I've cooked it for many Boy Scouts when I was a leader and never had a complaint. And, real men do eat quiche! lol
    Hamburger Quiche
1 unbaked 9 in. pastry shell
½ lb of ground beef or sausage
    ½ cup mayonnaise
    ½ cup milk
    2 eggs
1½ cup of shredded Cheddar or Swiss cheese
1/3 cup of sliced green or any onion
    Dash pepper
Brown meat in skillet. Drain fat and set aside. Blend mayo, milk and eggs until ingredients until smooth. Stir in meat, cheese, onion, and pepper. Turn into pastry shell. Bake in 350°F oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown on top and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serves 6 to 8.

    What a great camping area!
Horse apples are also called Osage orange. Horses do occasionally eat them, but most animals don't like them because they have a latex content. If you bother to smell them, they have a slightly sweet citrus scent. They used to be widespread here in North America because mammoths and mastadons ate them and spread the seeds everywhere in their dung. These days they're not a common sight because they mainly depend on being spread by creeks and rivers where they'll germinate and take root along waterways.

    • @DispersedCamperMan

Being spread by creeks and rivers explains why I found them on a river. Good info!

In Kansas the farmers planted Hedge Apple rows. They would get up to a large softball size. The trees would be so heavy with them, and they would cover the ground. Helped with dust in the depression. Do NOT eat... Lots of folks slice and make decorative ornaments...

I was born and raised in the woods and swamps of South Louisiana. So when I camp I usually eat what's available. Fish squirrels rabbit etc. I eat off the land. That can be funny to. I went out west and it was chip munks and prairie dogs. The people I worked with out there called me the crazy Cajun that eats everything just put Tony's seasoning on it. 😄

Like you said, "The Ozarks don't disappoint." I'm fortunate that the Ozarks are on the route to Arizona from Indiana (and back). I've camped at Redding a few times. I don't mind paying half price with my Senior Pass because you get running water and a hot shower. I know you can make arrangements with a nearby company to kayak the Mulberry because I talked to three young people who set off from the boat launch there sounding like they were about to have a great time. Of course, I'm filing away dispersed camping sites like this one because free is good. I drove through the Ozarks a little earlier than usual one year. It was on a Saturday and Redding and the surrounding area was super crowded. I checked out a dispersed camping area using coordinates from one of your videos, Mark, and it was occupied. I ended up hitting I-40 and grabbing a motel room 50 miles closer to Arizona. I have a very favorable impression of Arkies. They've always treated me well in my campground and recreation setting encounters, including my stop at Turner Bend Store.

Hi Mark, we call those hedge balls, the wood from the hedge tree or a bush makes great fence posts. The wood is super hard and will not rot in the ground. We live in Southeast Nebraska, there are still fences around here made with hedge. We really enjoy your videos and are hoping to go to the Ozarks and do some dispersed camping. I have a Yamaha XT 225 that we take and I do the same as you and check out the areas.

@@DispersedCamperMan The fact that you're always adding campsites to your extremely helpful google map makes it more likely that I'll be able to find one next time I'm in that situation. The truth is, however, that I learned a lesson that year. I left home on a Thursday, which put me in Arkansas on Saturday at the rate I travel. If I leave on a Sunday, I can easily be in New Mexico by the weekend. Lots of free campgrounds and dispersed camping there, as you know, on a weekend in October or November.

I was beginning to worry about you! Enjoyed the video. The Pig Trail is one of the most scenic byways is the country. I made a trip up it to Fayetteville several years ago for a Razorback basketball game. There had been a freezing rain the day before and the tress were covered with ice. It looked like a fairyland. Breathtaking!!
    Try this one:
    Shipwreck Stew
    1/2 lb hamburger meat
    1/2 small onion, chopped
    1/2 bell pepper, chopped
    1 small can chopped tomatoes
1 small can chopped tomatoes with liquid
    1 tsp garlic powder
    3/4 cup elbow macaroni
    Shredded cheese
Brown the hamburger with the onions and bell pepper. Add spices, tomatoes, and macaroni. Cover and cook on medium low until macaroni is done. May have to add a little water. Cover with the shredded cheese and cover until melted. Serve with cornbread.

I'm working late tonight and missed dinner, man that breakfast really looked good! One of my favorite easy dinners is to get some croissant dough and make pizza rolls (pepperoni, mozzarella, pizza sauce) or ham and cheese rolls. Just unroll the dough, layer on the ingredients, roll it back up, slice it into "pucks" like a cinnamon roll, and bake in a cast iron pan or a toaster oven.

Something I like to make: chop up some cabbage and carrots (bring from home already chopped up). Some meat or two: often cut up sausage and pork or shrimp. Mushrooms are good too. Cut up the meat and mushrooms. Put a very small amount of water in a skillet, cook on low once water moving till carrots and cabbage are soft. Could add sweet and sour sauce if not using sausage. Grease from sausage gives lots of flavor.

I hope you can help me? I am a retired Marine living on Little Rock AFB base housing in Jacksonville, Ar. I am an older guy, so mobility is a slight issue. I really want to get out and camp again, but it is hard to find any dispersed camping areas near me so far. I looked on the internet and most of the areas I see are way up in the north about 2 or so hours away. My girlfriend and I went to Tylor Bend, Ar. last year and we had a blast, but I am trying to find something closer where I can tent camp and practice my bush skills a bit. I don't own an RV or truck. I own a 2-wheel drive Toyota Rav Four (4-cylinder) so backcountry driving is an issue for me. Can you help me locate something closer to my location? I don't mind traveling an hour or so, but over 2 hours or more puts a strain on my home situation a bit, because my girlfriend works 2 jobs and we have pets I need to take care of. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello Doug! I retired from LRAFB in 2014 after 20 years stationed there. I lived in LRAFB family housing for about a year also till I moved off base. The closest dispersed camping spot near you is about an hours drive to the Ouachita National Forest. (2-wheel drive accessible) I did a video on a spot called Wildcat Mountain Trail: Dispersed Camping Ouachita National Forest. ( th-cam.com/video/cqgvyqBZ6Tw/w-d-xo.html ) ( 34.848077,-92.818131 ) There are several camping spots in that area you could check out. In all of my videos, I have the coordinates to the spots I show in the video. I also have an interactive google map link in all my video descriptions that show all my dispersed camping spots. Once you have the map open, click on a spot on the map and my video for that spot pops up with coordinates. Any questions, let me know.
