I had to go check out a Rockhounding Area right on the border of New Mexico and Arizona that I've heard about. The road in was a little rough, but manageable. Decent cell service and the rockhounding for fire agates were outstanding. Great spot to check out the surrounding mountains and do some rockhounding for several days. Only one other camper was there when I showed up, and he left the next day. Beautiful starry night skies and very quiet. Thanks for watching Folks!

For a nifty display, take some small agates and hot glue them to Christmas lights. You can arrange them or pile them in a flat clay pan.
I really appreciated this video. For one I really enjoy the detail that you give about the road conditions in the area. Also when you first showed the road in the cattleguard, you showed the ranch sign and said it looked like it was a private road. I think a lot of people would’ve assumed the same thing. Thanks for showing that it is actually BLM land and accessible for everyone. I’d love to see you do some more videos of places that look like they’re in accessible but are free for the public to use.
Glad you enjoyed it! I like giving road conditions to kinda give folks an idea if they want to drive out to a spot. I definitely like seeing road conditions. That road is a public road, but there is also private land and Arizona State Trust Land mixed in with BLM land. You would definitely need a BLM map that shows the different areas. But the road in is public, and the Rockhounding area is all BLM public land.

I live in Northern Arizona and was looking for a place to go camping/rockhounding. I saw Round Mountain as a great rockhounding spot and your video was PERFECT for giving me an idea of what to expect. Thank you for the time you took putting this together. I'll be there in less than a month.

I know not where this is vloged from but agate,s are much different in the mid northwest. In Wisconsin Minnesota area they are like a rainbow frozen in time.

I was there in 2019 Nov. Fire agates are all over the place, but finding a REAL good one takes a bit of time. Cattle were out there at that time too.

Pretty amazing that people have been coming there for who knows how long and there are still fire agates all over the place. There's no way I would have driven through that ranch gate without knowing in advance that it was OK. The last thing in the world I want to do is trespass looking for a campsite. I appreciate you telling us so much about the road. The next last thing I think I want to do is have a vehicle breakdown caused by road conditions. Thanks for bringing us along to so many semi-isolated areas that have free dispersed camping. The more choices we have, the more likely we can find a good one.

The kangaroo rat mounds are awesome. Well unless they eat the wires in your truck😅 I take it that you can keep what rocks you find in the area? Unlike state and national parks
You are allowed to keep what you find, it's a BLM Rockhounding spot.

That Lazy B sign is weird. That would definitely make me think it’s private property and I don’t think I’d venture down that road. I guess you have to research an area to know it’s BLM land especially with no BLM signs and that Lazy B sign. Cool place, definitely quiet.
Yeah, I do a lot of research. I also have BLM maps and apps I look at prior to going to a place. That place was very quiet. LOL

On my google maps I can see the loop road. The area south of you on the loop road seems to cross a lot of large washes. And what seems strange to me is that the cattle pens appear to be in the middle of a very, very large wash! Thanks for the great job you do showing us the territory!!!!!!!!! So interesting...
If you go to satellite view you can see it, but it doesn't name the road. The cattle pens aren't in a wash, but there is a wash you have to cross right after the pens. That way would be the closest way to get to the mountain I was on. I believe you could park there, and walk in from there if need be. It would be the closest way.

appreciate your reply back to Michael P on the bike/cargo set-up with engine temp. I plan to run a front hitch with generator or toolbox in basket and did'nt think about this. Question, how much gasoline for generator in summer and propane in winter do you try to have when you park to sustain your stay?
I'm still planning on using the front cargo carrier, I'm just going to get containers that sit to the far right and left, leaving the middle open for air flow. I'm going to see if it affects my engine temps. My dash gauges were reading normal with the tool box/motorcycle up front, but my digital temp readouts were reading a 30 degree increase in temp. I didn't like that at all. LOL In the summer months, I have a 12 gallon external fuel can attached to my honda generator to run the A/C overnight, plus another 5 gallons just in case. It'll last me about a week in the summer. Propane I have two 20 #'s I think they are that came with my truck camper. They'll last a while, especially if it doesn't drop below freezing overnight. If it doesn't, I don't have heat on. I just throw another blanket on my bed. My fridge stays on propane out boondocking, and my water heater when I want some hot water for showers/dishes. I can probably stay out over a week or more on my propane, depending how much I have to run the furnace.
Terrific video. I like that region - I've camped at Dragoon Mountains and near Bisbee. Question: What solar lights do you use to keep rodents away from your truck's engine? I haven't invested in that yet and I should.
Any type of solar rope lights you can get off of amazon. The ones I use, amazon no longer have them.
I did not find those solar under truck lites on your Amazon list. Do you remember what they are called? Those kangaroo rats seem to be everywhere! Certainly need protection .....

I noticed you changed the location where you carry your motorcycle. What made you change it.
Personally, I think it must have been twisting your hitch causing some metal/weld fatigue.
I am quite interested to see how it looks mounted in the front.
Does it block the lights.
Does it block your view or bother you on the road.
Is is legal in every states
I have a CRF250L that I am planning to mount on my Transit 350HD based Class C.
BTW I would totally do those roads with my small Class C.
Hello! In the past when I carried my cargo rack with box up front while traveling, my temperature gauge didn't show any engine overheating. I now have bully dawg gauges that show the exact temp of my oil and coolant. On my trip out here, my oil and coolant was heating up 30 degrees more with my tool box up front. So I moved my tool box in the back, and my motorcycle up front. Low and behold, it's still causing my oil and coolant to overheat. So now, I placed my motorcycle in the back and on traveling days, I carry my tool box inside the camper. Other than overheating, no issues. I will no longer carry anything large up front that completely blocks the radiator.
Thank you for this info. I will not entertain the possibility of mounting my motocycle in the front any more.
1 UP makes a heavy duty mountain bike rack that pivots 90°. I modified mine to hold the weight of my 280lb dual sport. Looking in my rear view mirrors as I'm traveling down rough roads I see no wobbliness.
Just discovered your channel. I have a similar set up. Did you explain your motorcycle hauling in any of the videos? I need to try to haul my DR650 on either the front or back.

Either front or back is good. I had to stop carrying my tool box up front on the carrier. It was blocking wind flow to engine. The coolant and oil temp rose 30 degrees. I tried carrying my motorcycle up front, same thing. Temps rose 30 degrees.

I really don't recall. No mountains around there, I would think it was decent. If you're into rockhounding, check that area out.
I added a front receiver hitch to my Ford truck like yours for my motorcycle… Question ...it seems too high blocking my view probably a ticket,How do you get away with it?
It doesn’t really block my view. I’m not carrying my motorcycle up front anymore or anything that blocks my radiator. I just noticed when I carry it up front, my coolant and oil temps increase 30 degrees.

Other than that one campsite with the rock fire ring, how do you determine a campsite?
I use an app called OnXmaps that show where BLM land is. Once I'm on BLM land, I can normally find camping spots where folks have already camped.

I would, and do. I haven't had anyone mess with my stuff and I always leave my campsite for hours at a time exploring the surrounding areas. It's possible it could happen, but so far, I haven't had any issues.

No. I have it cabled/locked to my truck or a tree when I'm using it. I know if someone really wants it, the lock/cable will not stop them. I'm not going to worry about something that might or might not happen. I haven't had any issues with theft so far.
