    What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Hollywood Racks Destination E. It's gonna be a bike rack that's platform style, great for e-bikes. Even comes with a ramp to help you load those up, so you don't have to lift them up. Put them on there yourself. Let's check it out.
    Before we get too far into it, let's look at some expectations for this bike rack. So I've worked with some e-bike based bike racks before, and I wanna make sure it checks some of those boxes. So thinking about it, if it's got the ramp, I wanna make sure the ramp is easy to use. Make sure it's easy and secure when you put it on the bike rack. So that way I can be confident when I'm rolling that bike up the ramp.
    Another thing would be how sturdy it is, because, you know, e-bikes are a little heavier so I want to make sure that it actually holds it pretty tightly. That way when we're going down the road, I don't see a bunch of shaking or I'm not kind of questioning it, so it's got to be sturdy. That ramp's got to work like it's supposed to. Got to be easy to use that ramp. Be convenient to even condense the ramp on this one.
    So another thing would be how hard it is to strap down the bikes because sometimes you got the arms in the center and get in the way when you're bringing the bike up the ramp and you have to move it, like kind of tilt it out to get it around there can be kind of a pain so there's a lot of factors goes in to see how this is actually going to work. Since I brought it up, let's check out the ramp first. It's this easy to detach or attach it. You can see this goes right over this notch right here, which is gonna hold it in place and it will move a little bit side to side, but it's not gonna slide off on you. The other cool thing is it can adjust so you have this knob down here, so it's not at a set ramp length.
    So you can drop it all the way down here for storage, tighten up that knob, throw it in your vehicle, that way it's out-of-sight, out-of-mind, or fully extend it, if you need a little bit more ramp to get that bike on there easier. And it's gonna work on both sides. So it works on this one right here, and if we take it over to the other side, you can hook up the ramp there and load your second bike, too. Let's take a closer look at the ramp itself. I'm gonna compare this bike rack throughout this video to the Yakima OnRamp, and the Thule EasyFold because those also have ramps and are aimed at e-bikes. So right away, this one's gonna be a heavier duty ramp than those. This one is far more solid. You can't get it to bend or anything like that. The OnRamp one and the Thule one aren't as sturdy and the Thule one also folds into three sections. Those are also stuck in those lengths, so whatever length they are, you can't make it any shorter. So sometimes when you park somewhere and you need to have a little bit less, depending on how high your hitch is, you can't adjust. One of the nice things about this one is it's sturdier and can adjust. So you can kind of set to whatever incline you need, so you're never going up like a really steep hill to get that e-bike up on your rack. Now, the only downside to the ramp on the EasyFold is that it does not store on the bike rack. That's one of the nice things I like about the OnRamp is it folds onto the rack, so it's always gonna be there when you need it. So you're gonna have to remember to keep this in your vehicle, which you can put it in the back if you want, or just put it under the seat here when you know you're using the bike rack. That way it's easy to get to it to unload those bikes when you need to. Now, aside from the ramp, let's take a look at how it's gonna hold the bikes. So it holds the bikes with these clamps here, they have the rubber on the inside. So it's gonna go on your frame or your seat post. So that's gonna help open it up to many different frames of bikes. So we have the mountain bike on there and e-bike. And especially the e-bikes, those all have different frames that go at different angles so this is gonna be really easy to help adjust that, because you're gonna swing that out, get it where you need to, and then tighten down the clamps. It's really easy to use them and they lock. So if you lock 'them up, they'll free spin. So that's a nice extra added security feature. So pop that off, turn the key and fully lock it. And now, you see, you can't undo it so you can't tighten it or loosen it. So if you leave this on here, leave your bi

    I have this rack and I put my two Aventon e-bikes on it( aventure 2 fat tire and level 2 commuter). It works great. Just took it on a 150 mile trip. I was worried about the weight, it has 140 lb capacity and I was at 139. I could have taken the batteries out, but it was no problem. Very solid.

      Glad to hear the rack is working well for you! It probably wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to remove the batteries unless it's a complete PITA.

    Real good review thank you. This rack looks a little complicated. Like my Rockymount better but it didn't have trays or ramp for my heavy cruiser ebike. My emtb has a wb of 50.5: so this might now work for that anyway.

    Just received this rack from you guys. Included there is a non removable bolt for the outside bike frame grabber. Why would you want to use this option instead of the removable clamp?

    Great video and review!! I really like this rack but for the price, I'm bummed I still have to use a strap. I was hoping to avoid straps.
    When it's tilted down, can I open a truck tailgate?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  ปีที่แล้ว

      On most trucks you can get the tailgate almost all the way down before it touches.

    Please tell me which of the 3 racks would be best suitable for us older folks. I have an F-150 pick-up truck and a small motorhome. I prefer the racks with the ramp because my e-bikes weigh 60lbs. apiece.

    I like the rack, but can't get that lock off the hitch pin. I've got a request in for help right now but I really just want to take a hammer to that lock.

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to turn the key and pull on the lock in order to remove it. You may have to wiggle the lock a bit for it to slide off.

    4" tires?

      The Hollywood Racks Destination E-Bike Rack can handle bikes with tires up to 4-1/2 inches wide. Hope that helps!

    Horrible that it only holds 70lbs. They could have cornered the market. There isn’t a single solution for 2 80lb bikes with tailgate access and holds over 3” tires. I’m forced into a $1600-2300 solution from 1up or rigd

      @etrailer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      We've got the solution you're looking for. The Hollywood Racks SE2, part # HLY84FR would check all the boxes you mentioned. The rack will handle two bikes weighing up to 80 lbs each and it'll tilt rearward for easier access to the cargo area of your vehicle. The wheel hoops will handle tires up to 5 inches wide, and the rack costs a fraction of the price point you mentioned. You can check it out by using the link below:
