Bricky is good for a casual response for the lore. Luetin does some more research in the lore. Bricky plays the table top in tournaments. But keeps his pulse on the exposure button for new comers. Without bricky i personally would not have my army. Very big difference in telling of lore.

The content not so much anymore, there's a looot of cooler shit that could've been in there but he did a superb job for a 2 hour two-parter video all things considered. Are Orks proof the Adeptus Mechanus are fundamentally right that faith in your machines is core to their functionality? Edit: hmm, i know 40k lore isn't supposed to be taken to seriously, but doesn't the creation of Sennesh suggest that the other chaos gods may have also been created similarly in times long past? There clearly was some crazy stuff going on long before the Necron after all considering the C'tan and the old ones already existed and acheived immortality, and apparently had beef with each other. The Webway as well may even suggest the Warp itself isn't naturally occuring, but possibly a similarly constructed pocket dimension by a long lost people. Also, is there any mention of what life the old ones created beyond the Eldar and Orks? Presumably they created _something_ for them to be known as life creators by the necron pre-conflict
the Orks' belief system is warp-based. The entire race of orks act like mini-psykers that all have power over their collective psyche. They also have their own brand of psykers (called Weirdboyz) who in novels are extremely dangerous because they KNOW how to manipulate and focus their fellow orks' focus. Admech having that belief is never truly explained. Sometimes the machines literally have spirits. Sometimes (people theorise) they're actually somewhat sentient AI in there who have their own temperaments. The bigger the machine, the more complex the machine spirit. Its detailed in Admech Titan and Knight books that the pilots who pilot their machines have access to the imprinted machine memories of previous pilots (kinda like the Avatar system in...Avatar). If you're incompatible with the machine, it will literally rebel against you and make it harder for you to input controls. Which is why Knight houses exist, since a TON of training is needed to properly even connect with a Knight or a Titan, let alone control it. And since, well, whoever controls these machines control real power in Admech society (who worship machines), you can guess why hereditary societies formed around them. Slaanesh' creation is the only one explicitly detailed in the lore. The other lore explanations are incredibly outdated (Khorne and Nurgle came from the wars on Earth and the Black Plague respectively lol, while Tzeentch has always existed). So yeah, no explanation for their birth. Also the Old Ones are supposed to be mysterious, and long gone. They're basically there to justify the Necrons' conflict and the War in Heaven.

Slaanesh lures people in with the "pleasure" which very quicky turns into pain (and other stuff that might get my comment deleted). Nurgle lures you in by giving you long life before he infects you with a horrible plague that turns you into a walking rotten pustule of disease. Tzeench lures you in by promising incredible magical power before turning you into dust or fusing you with a demon. And finally, Khorne lures you in by promising to never stab you in the back, immediately followed by him stabbing you in the face. This is why none of their followers embody any of the "good traits", because its all a lie
Technical wrong and right. They are both. They do lure you in with it. But they are also from it, as they are anthropomorphic concepts of both nature and existence. Hence both correct and wrong

40k has been around me way to much since I got into ttrpgs that I can get hyped for it anymore. I mean everything that inspires it is rad, but man modern games workshop just makes it kinda ick. My recommendation is to kitbash the fuck out of it as much as you can if you want to get into the miniatures. Games workshop doesn't need to nickel and dime you if you're just starting out that's fucked
Lore wise it still doesn't makes sense for there to be female custodians or space marines, you're using extremely valuable resources to make super soldiers as strong as possible so using a naturally weaker baseline doesn't make sense especially when there is never a shortage of men in the imperium no matter the fail rate. It also doesn't help that Games Workshop went down the gaslighting route saying "there was always female custodians, shut up". The only way female space marines would make sense in the lore would be if the Ecclesiarchy did some sneaky shit and got their hands on some gene seed and used it to turn some of the sisters of battle into space marines.
Lore also states the emperor didn't want transhumans to replace the norm, so he only made 1 gender able to take the changes so they could only reproduce a-sexualy with gene seed. (Space wolves still fuck local fenris women tho which is why their gene seed Is unable to accept baseline humans from other worlds)
There is so much gulf between baseline human stock and Custodians that the starting position of male or female is irrelevant. It’s like you need to count from 1 to 1,000 and are quibbling over starting at 1 or 2.
There's nothing stopping whatever process that Custodes go through from making the women soldiers end up just as strong as the men. Also very little of the Custodes' prestige comes from their superior strength over a space marine, it's their skill, which gender has no bearing on. It seems very silly to say "This person is extremely skilled and dedicated to the emperor and has a lot of potential, but they can't bench quite as much right now so we're not gonna juice them up with mega-steroids." Also this is a fake made up sci-fi fantasy universe, they've added an entire faction that was secretly there the whole time with the Leagues of Votann, who cares if some space marines have vaginas now.
There was no ‘gaslighting’, that’s just how they do retcons. And the emperor wouldn’t care about natural strength when selecting custodes candidates, they’re toddlers and he makes them as strong as he wants. The traits he’s selecting for are something else, likely psychic-based

Stumbled onto this video, but I like seeing people find out about 40k. About the Female Custodes thing: Space Marines can only be male because their Gene Seed essentially goes back to the Emperors own DNA. He was male, and his genetics only work on males as a result. Custodes do NOT have a Gene Seed. In THEORY, there has NEVER been a male-only restriction on them. However, female Custodes were never confirmed in any lore. Some people VERY INCORRECTLY assumed that meant Custodes were male-only. Again, the lore does NOT support this, it was merely an assumption after 25+ years of no female Custodes ever being mentioned. With the announcement of female Custodes, some people think this was a Retcon to be more inclusive. However, ACTUAL lore nerds know this does NOT invalidate any of the lore. It merely shines light on an overlooked portion of it. That is all. If they said there are female Space Marines, that would be a contradiction of lore. Custodes do not have this problem, and never have.
@@SSD_Penumbra Perhaps it does for you, but I kinda disagree. Custodes are kinda cool, but they don't come with nearly the insane lore and flavor that the Sisters (of Battle and Silence) do. They are, at the end of the day, a bodyguard army that also fights in the warp portal underneath the golden thrown. Outside of that, they don't get that much personality. The Sisters, on the other hand, have personality in droves. If anything, the Sisters kinda have MORE personality than a good chunk of the male only or male dominant areas of the lore. Not all of it, but of the major Human armies, they are visually impeccable, have a wide swathe of customs and traditions that differ from convent to convent (some are silent nuns, some like to party at bars). Compared to many others, they are actually very human and show off many aspects of that. Custodes kinda don't. To each their own, though. I just don't think it's a big deal, I've known the theory of female Custodes (and Marines, though that's a can of worms) for years upon years and it never devalued the Sisters for me. The first army I bought with my own money was Sisters back in 3rd Edition, and they are still an army I have a ton of interest in despite many others coming along since then.

By that metric, we should have male members of the Ecclesiarchy capable of the same feats as the Sororitas (like becoming literal angels or staving off demons with their mental fortitude), but then you'd devalue the Sororitas as the cool religious faction of all nuns with guns.
Starting with leutin. A promising start. Because honestly bricky is by far not the best source for lore. He knowledgable but he lacks the thoroughly researched vibe of other warhammer tubers like arch, weshammer, leutin and really capture the tone of the grim dark and really fully illustrating just how abysmal and dystopian it is. Edit: hmm, i know 40k lore isn't supposed to be taken to seriously, but doesn't the creation of Sennesh suggest that the other chaos gods may have also been created similarly in times long past? There clearly was some crazy stuff going on long before the Necron after all considering the C'tan and the old ones already existed and acheived immortality, and apparently had beef with each other. The Webway as well may even suggest the Warp itself isn't naturally occuring, but possibly a similarly constructed pocket dimension by a long lost people.
Also, is there any mention of what life the old ones created beyond the Eldar and Orks? Presumably they created _something_ for them to be known as life creators by the necron pre-conflict
the Orks' belief system is warp-based. The entire race of orks act like mini-psykers that all have power over their collective psyche. They also have their own brand of psykers (called Weirdboyz) who in novels are extremely dangerous because they KNOW how to manipulate and focus their fellow orks' focus.
Admech having that belief is never truly explained. Sometimes the machines literally have spirits. Sometimes (people theorise) they're actually somewhat sentient AI in there who have their own temperaments. The bigger the machine, the more complex the machine spirit.
Its detailed in Admech Titan and Knight books that the pilots who pilot their machines have access to the imprinted machine memories of previous pilots (kinda like the Avatar system in...Avatar). If you're incompatible with the machine, it will literally rebel against you and make it harder for you to input controls. Which is why Knight houses exist, since a TON of training is needed to properly even connect with a Knight or a Titan, let alone control it. And since, well, whoever controls these machines control real power in Admech society (who worship machines), you can guess why hereditary societies formed around them.
Slaanesh' creation is the only one explicitly detailed in the lore. The other lore explanations are incredibly outdated (Khorne and Nurgle came from the wars on Earth and the Black Plague respectively lol, while Tzeentch has always existed).
So yeah, no explanation for their birth. Also the Old Ones are supposed to be mysterious, and long gone. They're basically there to justify the Necrons' conflict and the War in Heaven.
Ive just grouped that into the "Tism" but that is a good parallel in story telling tbh.
It is very likely that the machine god is the c'tan called void dragon. So i guess it have nothing to do with the warp.

Bricky's explanation of the "good side" of chaos gods isnt the most accurate. The "good side" is really just the stuff they use to lure people in. Slaanesh lures people in with the "pleasure" which very quicky turns into pain (and other stuff that might get my comment deleted). Nurgle lures you in by giving you long life before he infects you with a horrible plague that turns you into a walking rotten pustule of disease. Tzeench lures you in by promising incredible magical power before turning you into dust or fusing you with a demon. And finally, Khorne lures you in by promising to never stab you in the back, immediately followed by him stabbing you in the face. This is why none of their followers embody any of the "good traits", because its all a lie

Like, Nurgle may appreciate that you compost your food waste and use it to fertilize your garden, but once you choose to take the dive and become an actual cultist, you are becoming a poxwalker. 40k has been around me way to much since I got into ttrpgs that I can get hyped for it anymore. I mean everything that inspires it is rad, but man modern games workshop just makes it kinda ick. My recommendation is to kitbash the fuck out of it as much as you can if you want to get into the miniatures. Games workshop doesn't need to nickel and dime you if you're just starting out that's fucked

Female Custodes...
Lore wise it still doesn't makes sense for there to be female custodians or space marines, you're using extremely valuable resources to make super soldiers as strong as possible so using a naturally weaker baseline doesn't make sense especially when there is never a shortage of men in the imperium no matter the fail rate. It also doesn't help that Games Workshop went down the gaslighting route saying "there was always female custodians, shut up". The only way female space marines would make sense in the lore would be if the Ecclesiarchy did some sneaky shit and got their hands on some gene seed and used it to turn some of the sisters of battle into space marines.
Lore also states the emperor didn't want transhumans to replace the norm, so he only made 1 gender able to take the changes so they could only reproduce a-sexualy with gene seed. (Space wolves still fuck local fenris women tho which is why their gene seed Is unable to accept baseline humans from other worlds)
There is so much gulf between baseline human stock and Custodians that the starting position of male or female is irrelevant. It’s like you need to count from 1 to 1,000 and are quibbling over starting at 1 or 2.
There's nothing stopping whatever process that Custodes go through from making the women soldiers end up just as strong as the men. Also very little of the Custodes' prestige comes from their superior strength over a space marine, it's their skill, which gender has no bearing on. It seems very silly to say "This person is extremely skilled and dedicated to the emperor and has a lot of potential, but they can't bench quite as much right now so we're not gonna juice them up with mega-steroids."
Also this is a fake made up sci-fi fantasy universe, they've added an entire faction that was secretly there the whole time with the Leagues of Votann, who cares if some space marines have vaginas now.
There was no ‘gaslighting’, that’s just how they do retcons. And the emperor wouldn’t care about natural strength when selecting custodes candidates, they’re toddlers and he makes them as strong as he wants. The traits he’s selecting for are something else, likely psychic-based

About the Female Custodes thing:
Space Marines can only be male because their Gene Seed essentially goes back to the Emperors own DNA. He was male, and his genetics only work on males as a result.
Custodes do NOT have a Gene Seed. In THEORY, there has NEVER been a male-only restriction on them. However, female Custodes were never confirmed in any lore. Some people VERY INCORRECTLY assumed that meant Custodes were male-only. Again, the lore does NOT support this, it was merely an assumption after 25+ years of no female Custodes ever being mentioned. With the announcement of female Custodes, some people think this was a Retcon to be more inclusive. However, ACTUAL lore nerds know this does NOT invalidate any of the lore. It merely shines light on an overlooked portion of it. That is all.
If they said there are female Space Marines, that would be a contradiction of lore. Custodes do not have this problem, and never have.
My biggest issue about it isn't even the lore. It just takes away the cool factor of the Sisters of Silence and the Adepta Sororatas.
@@SSD_Penumbra Perhaps it does for you, but I kinda disagree. Custodes are kinda cool, but they don't come with nearly the insane lore and flavor that the Sisters (of Battle and Silence) do. They are, at the end of the day, a bodyguard army that also fights in the warp portal underneath the golden thrown. Outside of that, they don't get that much personality. The Sisters, on the other hand, have personality in droves. If anything, the Sisters kinda have MORE personality than a good chunk of the male only or male dominant areas of the lore. Not all of it, but of the major Human armies, they are visually impeccable, have a wide swathe of customs and traditions that differ from convent to convent (some are silent nuns, some like to party at bars). Compared to many others, they are actually very human and show off many aspects of that. Custodes kinda don't.
To each their own, though. I just don't think it's a big deal, I've known the theory of female Custodes (and Marines, though that's a can of worms) for years upon years and it never devalued the Sisters for me. The first army I bought with my own money was Sisters back in 3rd Edition, and they are still an army I have a ton of interest in despite many others coming along since then.

By that metric, we should have male members of the Ecclesiarchy capable of the same feats as the Sororitas (like becoming literal angels or staving off demons with their mental fortitude), but then you'd devalue the Sororitas as the cool religious faction of all nuns with guns.

He knowledgable but he lacks the thoroughly researched vibe of other warhammer tubers like arch, weshammer, leutin and really capture the tone of the grim dark and really fully illustrating just how abysmal and dystopian it is.
