2015 Dodge Journey Won’t Start (Hard brake petal)

- We experienced an issue with our 2015 Dodge Journey not starting. The brake petal was hard and it wouldn’t go down. If you run into this problem, do the following:
• Make sure the ignition is in the “Off” mode (you may need to open and close doors)
• The only lights that should be on the display is the message “Push brake to start engine”
• Push the “start” button 5 times
• Press the brake and “start” button at the same time (may take a few seconds)
• Engine should start

I had the same problem this morning 8/10/22 and had misplaced my keys thinking it was in the car so I kept pushing the brake and the push to start button hoping the fob would somehow magically be in my car and that the car would start. Unfortunately it wasnt and when I finally found my keys the brake was extremely hard to push down and my car wouldn't start at all. Thank you so, so much for this tip. Another success story here! I wish I knew about this solution years ago as my 2011 Dodge Journey has this problem a few times a year.
It still works for my 2015 Dodge Journey. As March 2020.
Question is why does this caused?
Is it still good? Or did you end up getting new battery?

My 2018 dodge journey wouldnt start earlier, completely random. Full battery, had lights and radio. System would engage when pushing button but no crank. Check engine light flashed a few times. Then 5 mins later it started like nothing happened.

THE JOURNEY; has so many recalls. Is this 1 of them yet? It's a security issue.
I'm having the exact same issue with 2014 dodge journey and my husband called dodge dealership and there are 5 recalls on my car that I didn't know about and one of the recalls is the security module. They are going to fix all 5 recalls at no charge.
I have the same year, and my car won't start. Do you know if this is a new recall for security module?
That's great! My KIA had an engine recall... The car died on the freeway. KIA steung me along for two months. Ultimately they denied all responsibility and liability. My car was paid off, I was heart broken. Stick with Dodge.

instructions: 1. With brake not depressed, press start button until it is in the run position. 2. Then depress brake 3. Then gear shift should release, put it in nueyral. 4. Then push start button. Voila! It should turn over!!

Okay but what caused this to happen? This happened to me today and it worked for me but now my car has a check engine light. Just really not a good start to the week after a family member passed away. Ugh.

i have a 2019 ram and its doing this.have not tried this yet.but what it is it that your vacuum brake booster has a leak or your brake check valve or both are gone.
i tried this and it wouldn't work, i tried the other help tip below and it wouldn't work. the only way it turned on is if i got another car to give me a jump. it's done this a few times already and then it'll be fine for awile. very frustrating. might be time to trade it in.

I had this problem but the issue is with the TIPM, not a security issue. Either the connections to the TIPM are corroded or your TIPM is bad. This is a known issue with the Dodge Journey's...all years! This may be a quick resolve BUT it's NOT the whole answer to the problem.
How is that fixed? What is TIPM, if it's a Dodge problem, can it be fixed or not?

2016 Dodge Journey, and Neither way to "Fix" this foolish problem has worked Love the fact there's folks like y'all and others who have helped many but this is the 4th time in 8 months of owning this otherwise great SUV that this has happened to us.

Yes push the push start button 5X wait for gauges to settle step on break and hit the start button one more time. (Make sure that your battery is charged or hooked up with jumper cables) this low battery state cause the journey to go into a “security mode” according to dodge. Honestly just buy a battery ASAP

This worked twice for my 2015 Dodge Charger. The first time I had to try all the steps twice for it to start up. The second time, I had to keep pressing the push start while holding down the break for it it to start up. Since happening the first time on 12/6/19, I had to do it again today (12/10/19). Is there a permanent solution for this that anyone know of?

fiendceto138 It did keep happening which means that the battery is dying. Eventually, the car will go completely dead. We had the battery replaced at Dodge and haven’t had any issues since.

we had to get out of the car get back in do the 5 times and then it started but i notice if i wait like about an hour the car will start right up

Did anyone else have this issue but there screen reads that your in reverse when your in park? Mine is having this issue but thinks it’s in reverse when it’s in park. We replaced the whole shifter and it’s still reading it as if it’s in reverse. And now sometimes it won’t read park at all.

If this does work I suggest to go straight to any auto zone or dealership and get a new battery.
