- Holding down lead guitar duties in @opeth since 2007, Fredrik Åkesson knows his way around the fretboard. And before the band’s first @rymanauditorium performance, the self-admitted “gear dork” shows off the cavalcade of @prsguitars 6-strings he and singer/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt use onstage, explains the band’s move from tube heads to miniature modules designed by Dave Friedman and Steve Vai, and demos the core colors of his live tone.

If you know anything about soundchecks you would understand.They give you 30 min if you lucky and he also had to go trough Michaels rig as well so it’s”hurry up!”.You learn something new everyday so there you have it.

Sid R. Years ago when he was playing with Arch Enemy I met him after a show they played at a club. After the show he was at the bar hanging out with fans and drinking beers for a about a hour. Cool guy and when I told him I played guitar we started talking about our favorite guitar players, gear and vintage guitars that we’d like to own.
He's just the shizznit...all of Opeth, however, are the shizznit...

Awesome video! Opeth is an amazing band and it was great seeing Fredrik demoing his sounds. They are really great at recreating the feel of the albums live - it's really impressive.

I know...how do they sound better than the album live? it's the opposite of most bands
I highly recommend to everybody who´s not familiar with Fredrik´s career,to check out Talisman. That was the band founded by Marcel Jacob (former Yngwie Malmsteen bassist) and fronted by Jeff Scott Soto (also former Yngwie,Axel Rudi Pell, Sons of Apollo,WET and a shitload of other high profile acts).Marcel Jacob recruited him,when he was only 19 years old in that band.
Specially their albums "Humanimal","Genesis" and "Life",that´s some awesome melodic hard-rock,with insane guitar/bass parts by Fredrik and Marcel Jacob.
I thought it was Devin Townsend on the thumbnail .

I've been waiting for this for a looong time.
Fredrik has quickly become my favorite guitarist and number one inspiration! I got his signature PRS and I love it so much that just looking at it inspires me to pick it up and practice!

And that's a confirmation why that "Lovelorn Crime" solo has a Pink Floyd vibe to it - one of my favorite tracks from "In Cauda Venenum" but IMO that whole record is a solid 10/10 - only Charlatan and Garroter let you "breathe" and are there more to give dynamic to the major songs around them, so - works for me
Other than the intro (a little to long imho) all songs are major to me! In my top 3 Opeth albums.

They were great and Fredrik is a fantastic player
I still use two of Fredrik's signature PRS SE's. One has been refinished in surf green and the other was done in a black sparkle burst. Great guitars for the price. Love the Ebony boards.

I like that Rick Beato reference. (Totally agree with a lighter gauge) Recognize hat test they did was based on standard tuning. If you have a really Low tuning you purposely want a heavier gauge string to compensate string tension otherwise your string will be flapping out of control. Lower tuning means lower frequencies so you want a heavier string to get the best sound and tightness from.
I think that the fact that they’re looking for something better than standard convention, means that they would at least take basic convention into account. Especially considering they aren’t idiots

I haven't been able to get into any of the stuff they've done since Watershed, but Opeth are still one of my favorite bands. Everything they did from that point backwards was nothing short of stunning.

the rigs sounds great live. Bass was completely toast in the mix though at the Dallas show.
The whole mix was terrible at Houston. HOB has a pretty rough time getting decent mixes, it seems. Fred was nearly inaudible, as were Joakim and Mendez. It was too quiet, too. A shame, because the show itself was fantastic and tight as hell.
Everyone seems to be complaining about the bass in the mix for Opeth, I don't know what they decided to change, but it's time to change back.
