Exactly what I was thinking when he said he loves digital lol. Edit: Holy shit I thought you were predicting it. I didn't get to the point he announced it. That's an easy buy for me. Daaaaaaamn
I saw Devin 4 years ago on the 70'000 tonnes of metal cruise. Most bands used amps, Devin and the band were using axe fx. Devin and the band had the best sound of the whole cruise and what was great was even at the second show when the laptop died and they did everything with no backing and no clicks it still sounded massive.
Huge props to frames for letting Devin work with Kiesel for headless and ambient projects. Not many builders out there comfortable and confident in their product enough to do that so that really goes a long way in my book! 👏
I have schizoaffective bipolar type and I've always looked up to Devin for his ability to be a great person/artist. I saw SYL once. One foot away from Devin the whole show. Shook hands with all the members. Got tell Devin they were my favorite band and got to smoke weed with Byron. Some of my all time heroes!
I've never heard an explanation like his on why he uses digital amps. To me amazement I understand why he uses them. I don't like digital amps, I really prefer the real thing. But I really understand him. Thank you, Dev!
I never get bored of seeing that “Hawaiian” Framus Stormbender……an absolutely stunningly beautiful guitar. Really enjoy seeing the build videos you guys do……you have a great contingent of highly skilled artisans building amazing guitars. The attention to detail is easily some of the best in the business.
Devin has always had such a cool approach to music. Dude can shred in the same song he plays some crazy soundscape with kittens meowing in the background.
The thing that amazes me the most about Devin is the fact that he writes and performs all of his stuff in an open, major tuning. The guy is an incredible writer/composer, performer and is absolutely brilliant...but it is his choice in tuning that impresses me the most. I couldn't do it. It obviously works for him..but I can't wrap my mind around it. Just imagine auditioning to join his band. hahaha. I have been playing guitar for almost 30 years and I couldn't do it. I wouldn't know where to start.
I thought the same until i tried it. It makes everything make sense, so you can just get on and play. I thought it would make modes and arpeggios and things more complicated but it's the opposite. Everything is where it 'should' be. It's VERY intuitive. I'm 30 years playing too and switching over has been effortless. I honestly don't understand why standard tuning is 'the standard'?! Open C should be the standard. Give it a month and you'll see what i mean \m/
Straight facts. Been playing for 20 years myself and every time I try to mess around in open C, I'm just like "Well, shit... I just sound like Devin". Then I find a new song of his to learn.
love the relationship we see here between Dev and his Tech. I imagine Dev at times can be a hard guy to work with, not for any diva BS, but cause he is Dev and quirky AF. But I imagine the folks he does surround himself with are fucking amazing.
These framus guitars devy plays are stunning. They sound so fucking terrific too. It’s so cool the company allows devy to work with multiple companies too. It shows confidence in their work.
love the ode to digital amps (i guess it starts at 11:40). as a fellow digital modeler user (cant afford tube amps), this makes me happy. also notice how devin was all goofy presenting his guitars, but when it came to the digital modelers he got all serious and super nerdy.
Axe-Fx is my favourite amp too. It is extraordinary how powerful it is. It takes someone with Devin's depth of talent and breadth of vision to make good use of it all.
I totally get why he uses the AXE Effects. If you had to recreate his sounds live, you would need a van full of pedal racks. Its way simpler for him to recreate his sound live because its the same as what he writes with. Also, he makes the point of consistency of sound every night. I want to build a guitar with his Fishman Pickups in the worst way or find a good used Charvel or Jackon to put them in. Every TH-cam demo that I have seen about those have been amazing. I love triangle picks too. Johnny Ramone and Kerry King turned me on to them way back.
Are those Sony WH-100XM4 headphones? I can't talk anything about the rest of the gear but those headphones are pretty good and durable, plus the battery lasts a long ass time too.
this video should've been extended to a 48 days long monologue and maybe (MAYBE) we would be able to absorb 3,25% of Devin's knowledge and calm vibe. Love the guy.
This is amazing! The detail and work that goes into programming all of this is mind boggling. Myself, I love digital gear over anything too. I'm mainly a keyboard player and digital just allows me so much more freedom.
Great Video... one day maybe I'll have the $25,000 for that rainbow Framus :( Love the breakdown of the amp frequency. Such a talented musician. Got to meet Dev the one and only time back on the Vai S&R tour.
Devin é um génio musical. Metal Zeus! Heavy Apolo! Ambiente Euterpes! Saudações deste fã de Portugal! 🇵🇹🙌🏼🤘🏼
I love the shape of the body on his framus models. They look really cool without being too “out there.” Not that I dont enjoy the shape of strandberg bodens or abasi concepts laradas, I’m just really impressed with how framus was able to design a body shape that wasnt too different looking but still managed to look really cool.
I wish Fishman would come out with the the 7 string version of his pickups. I asked them for something in the same ballpark but their suggestion didn't make sense. Love the standard version.
The helix floor as a unit is really the best like he says. If only L6 would ever update their amp modeling they would crush it. Their modeling has absolutely no feel at all to their high gain amps. Maybe this year they stop just making cheaper and cheaper versions of a helix and get their modeling updated.
So basically I have to become a computer programmer. Got it. I come from a time when you just plugged into your amp and played. The only plug in would be a wah wah, if you were lucky. How times have changed. Problem I have is, digital has come so far,... and I love it.
You have to use computers, and be a computer whizz for everything in the music industry these days. Recording, producing, finance communication, marketing, sales.
Helix user here... digital is where it's at, especially for bass. I use HX and source audio for my sound, patches are backed up automatically to cloud folders synced to all my computers. If my HX or SA gear goes down, I can replace it easily, plug in and restore from anywhere in the world. None of this boutique, one of a kind BS. It's the shit. My sound is the same wherever I go and whatever I plug into.
He's slowly turning into his final form, a cool metal hippie uncle.
Hahaha genius!
He still has the golden form right after that 🤣🤣
Still like 12 forms to go
Dev is going through his Chubby
Brown phase here.
@@pjdepaepe9814 ...man what exactly is endearing about this comment? i don't even think it's accurate, let alone """"""genius""""""
I love how Dev talks about his embrace of digital amplification technology. No snobbery, pure creation. Love this dude!
I thought exactly the same thing. He knows what works for him to create his sound ❤m👍
The guitar tech's smile and ease shows a lot about how nice Devin Townsend is.
Dev's a pro. Decades of experience. Gotta be sociable to be in that game for that long.
Archetype Devin townsend confirmed !!!
I thought it was going to be last round, the Mark IIC+ surprised me.
holee shit dude!
Whoops!
Exactly what I was thinking when he said he loves digital lol.
Edit: Holy shit I thought you were predicting it. I didn't get to the point he announced it. That's an easy buy for me. Daaaaaaamn
Take my money! I wonder what his special features will be.
Archetype Townsend Confirmed! SOON. SOONER! That will be a treat
“Speed Wipe… when you don’t have time to do the paperwork” 😂😂😂
Framus : "great specs! So what colour do you want?"
Devin: "Yes."
I’ll take it in rainbow sir 😂

That finish on his main framus stormbender is STUNNING
And brave
@@libertywormfarm3819 brave?
@@libertywormfarm3819 😂🌈!!
I could listen to him talk about gear for hours. So insanely knowledgeable
I could listen to him speaking about the various stages of paint drying.
Factually speaking, this was the GREATEST gear walk-thru that has ever been. FIGHT ME ON THIS FACT!!!! Also @23:53 WHAT!?!?! Take my $$$$$.
Came for cool guitars, stayed for the master class

Every time Devin speaks is like a therapy session, dude is so chill that he just calms the air around himself.
I’ve always loved Dev’s honesty.
Just cuts through the bullshit
Those Framus guitars are incredible. Love Devin's work! Rock on.
I just wish I could afford one :/
Man gotta love when Dev goes into explaining what how and why he does the things he does thoroughly enjoy his interviews
I've never heard an explanation like his on why he uses digital amps. To me amazement I understand why he uses them. I don't like digital amps, I really prefer the real thing. But I really understand him. Thank you, Dev!
Devin is a legend. I really want that rainbow Framus too!!!
Devin never disapoints, and these insights into the compositional process and production are incredible.
Thank you , whoever made this happen!

When he was young he tuned it to open c to play a led zep song and probably just learned to play with it like that. Just takes practice
No cap that hoodie came with a free dugout and bat when he got it at the headshop.

God damn I just appreciate him so much. Thanks for just being.
Gawd,...I LOVE this guy. I really really do!
Saw this tour yday, what a fantastic show
"I like you, man. But if you could just fuck off, that'd be awesome." Best line I've heard in a LONG time, haha!
As a fan of devin and his music, watching this video makes me wanna buy my first framus guitar
23:55 Did Devin just leaked that bomb? HAHAHAHA very happy for that Neural DSP Archetype tho!
I forget where, but he'd mentioned it over a year ago. I think it might have been on a livestream

I love how he interacts with his tech because he is part of the whole Devin Townsend Project.
How did he just casually announce that he's working on an Archetype like that, that's huuuuge
That guitar is Gorgeous 💯,I've seen many times but it's my favorite as well.
Completely agree with him about digital! I use fractal too.

Nice rig rundown! That's such a cool signature model

Excellent info about mixing digital vs analog amps.
HEAVY DEVY! Pog
See you this friday at La Riviera in Madrid, Dev, can't wait¡¡¡😄😄😄

Wakeup call for Framus: Build this man a Renegade.
Just now caught that Dev mentioned near the end that he's doing an Archetype plugin with Neural DSP. This will be a must-buy for me. Can't wait!
Fuck yeah dude, this rules
I love Devin
Crazy to me that he's gone to the Cymatic Audio set up for tracks and MIDI after doing it from a laptop for so long
I would love to hear the story of the Evertune guy almost getting Devy beat up in a bar.
I would love to have that guitar. It's so cool and colourful.
Musical genius!
So good!
Such a calm and relaxing voice, all the while discussing his technically dense process of sculpting sound.
This man is.
His tech is a hell of a player!
I like hearing him talk aboot stuff
9:44 - they used to make a model called the Renegade, which was pretty much a Telecaster
The sweater is badass.
Well this was awesome

Are the 7 string version of the transcendence ever going to be released?
I wish Fishman would actually sell the 7 string version of that pickup! I want it so bad!
I agree with Dev about digital gear. I've used Line 6 gear for playing and recording for twenty years. Have never touched a tube amp.
Got a Helix myself. Digital modelling is the future.
I want to hear more about a wizard nearly getting Devin beaten up in a bar.
Neural is getting more of my money, I hear!
Hey Devin, what about the Plank ? at 9:46 you said Framus doesn't make a Telecaster, the Plank is a nice german interpretation of this guitar ....
I love the shape of the body on his framus models. They look really cool without being too “out there.”

Well said. I'll stick with my Friedman
Not using the MOOER Ocean Machine for Ambient stuff?
So no power amp section required? Is that done by the house PA at each venue?
The helix floor as a unit is really the best like he says. If only L6 would ever update their amp modeling they would crush it. Their modeling has absolutely no feel at all to their high gain amps. The cool thing is that you can still just plug in to that wah pedal if you choose to 🤷 The axefx is pretty insane as well.
Forgets about evertune. Devin OH !!@# Probably the loudest he was in the entire thing. The man who turned me into a 10-52 connoisseur.
I want to see run down of his in ear setup
