Hey, creator of the game here. Great playthrough, can't believe you got the "good" ending on your first try. Game is on 60% sale right now, if anyone's interested. Also, working on new game currently, probably coming later this year. Again, thanks for playing and good video.
Considering she insists that you got out on your own and strangely asks if you're happy now... she might be a personification of your "hope". Yeah, this game is almost certainly an allegory for depression.
Henri is terrible at asking for help and so I kind of wonder if the room that he is stuck in is kind of metaphor for depression. You're seemingly stuck and don't know how to get out. It's scary. You feel like you're looking at the world through a small window not really participating with no way to contact the outside world. If you ask the wrong people for help they're super unhelpful. It would also explain the noose he finds. It was almost the exact same apartment and even used the same key as Henri's apartment, but dusty and dilapidated. Sort of a show of what would happen if Henri didn't find a way out his own apartment or his battle with depression.
@Moll Gar also the part where he has Aava take a picture of the apartment above him, but when he looks at it the picture’s actually pointed at his apartment. To me that signals what his apartment TRULY looks like, but the reason why the game depicts it as having some furniture and other things in it is bc in Henri’s mind he feels that what he has in his apartment is normal, even tho that’s not really the case.
To me the apartment above key was Henri's key so I take it that was Henri's house too, it was like a warning of what his future holds if he didn't come out of his comfort zone.
@@Anthro777 For there to be a bad ending Aava would have to had not liked him in any way but then you wouldn't really have a story? haha I guess the bad endings was not making the right decisions and he's "killed by his demons" suicide
Best part of this whole thing was Chris acting out both parts in a romantic drama by himself. I like to think someone else in the house or a neighbor overheard it completely without context.
Seeing as Henri is very clearly depressed, I wonder if "The Night" in this game is synonymous to the phrase " The Dark Night of the Soul"? This is an extreme, I guess, "psychological trial" i would say, that one goes through when facing serious trauma. Overcoming it, of course, leads to freedom and strength. But losing to it can cause serious mental health issues, or worse, in some cases. If anyone else has heard of this, please correct if I'm wrong :)
This playthrough is one of those rare commentary videos, where the spectator feels the same as the player, in this case you Chris. You brilliantly captured all that this game was offering and every bit of emotion - the scares, the frustration, the gasps and all the rest was felt, like I was playing it too, it's like you got the character, fantastic job. The game has a unique style, even thou it has Silent Hill 4 written all over it, I mean the hole in the storage, the blocked door, the outside center apartment, the noise neighbors and sketchy characters, THE PROTAGONIS'S NAME - HENRI (in Silent Hill 4, the name is Henry, slight change, but very much the same). Overall, it atmosphere and the ending was solid. Perfectly executed game and amazingly commentated playthrough. Thank you Chris!
The ending really hit me. My pen literally fell out of my hand. In my interpretation it was the fight of getting out. Out of Depression, out of the house, all the struggles as struggles in the head. And never wanting to bother anyone although you are in a really shitty situation. Imagining what other people might think, if you (beeing called a creep for example)…. And the end where he says, he couldn’t have done it without help and he encourages him, that he indeed did it all by himself. I guess she says it, because although she helped him, he needed to make to choice to open up to her, ask for help, fight these monsters and so he made it….
Aava: You done here? Ready to go? YES NO Reminds me of the scene at the end of Darkness II, where the console prompts you to Keep holding on / Let go. I had just finished that game, its not adv-horror, its FPS-RPG, so I just let the PC on with the promp on screen. Came back the next day, the screen didnt move. I expected if Jackie never let go, something different would happen ...
A man named Henri trapped in an apartment? Peeking through holes at neighbours? Hmmmmm... all SH4 references aside, I really did enjoy this! It has a very "one of these nights is not like the others" vibes, which made me feel unsettled in just the right way.
Really enjoyed this one! Not sure if it's just a coincidence but Henri and Aava are both names given in Finland. Furthermore aave and inha are Finnish words meaning ghost and vile/disgusting respectively.
Okay first, yeeeeeessss to more games cause I'm delightfully confused and wish to know/experience more of this world. Second, in the vein of defining/translating words, the name for this ending, Euneirophrenia, is defined as "a pleasant, happy state of mind one has after a good dream. Euneirophrenia’s antonym is malneirophrenia and it’s origins are from Ancient Greek, eu (good), oneiro (dream), phrenia (state of mind). Euneirophrenia is a euphoric, contented state of mind that one feels after a great night of sleep and pleasurable dreams. To feel euneirophrenia is to feel a deep serenity and a refreshing peace of mind as one awakens from a delectable night of rest. Euneirophrenia is almost always the ideal goal of a good night’s sleep and it’s truly the best way to wake-up!" The name for the bad ending is valveilla, which as I understand is finnish as well and means waking. I don't speak finnish. Oh, btw, searching for euneirophrenia also brings up oneirophrenia, which is a hallucinatory, dream-like state brought on by sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation or drugs. It's apparently out of fashion though so I guess it's no longer diagnosed as a standalone issue? It's interesting all the same though....I adore surreal games like this. There's just something special about games that hit just that right balance of interesting and confusing, the sense you can figure out more if you just dig a bit more. Same feeling Silent Hill gives me.
So glad I accidentally came across CJU many years ago. I remember exactly how it happened, too! For some reason I had a craving to watch a playthrough of a Thai horror game. ANY Thai horror game! And CJU's various vids popped up after a search. I politely tolerated his commentary at first, because I didn't like video game commentary as a rule, but something about his "nice but not too nice" humor and attitude grew on me, and here I am today, addicted just like y'all!!

This game was legit so damn good, I loved every minute of it. Really deserved the title "psychological horror". It was one of the few in that genre that felt done right. It was creepy and eerie, without any dumb jumpscares, sound design was good graphics fit well, and no bugs. I like how the story seems to be an euphemism for depression and learning to ask for help, but in the end you're the one who has to do the work. Yes, Aava helped you, but you had to kill that "hanging man" yourself, and you had to leave the appartment yourself. I think the bad ending implies or directly shows us that the protag hanged himself with that noose in his cabinet. Hence the monster that looked like a person hanging from the ceiling, with an empty picture frame as the face. The other monster might as well embodied the depression itself, even though I am not sure.
This was a really engaging game and thanks for the long video :D I choose to believe that this is a happy ending with Henri finally breaking through his cycle of depression because he found the right person. Aava's a legend. It's nice to have a happy end in a horror game tbh.
I'm afraid not. Henri and Aava are the same person. The key worked for the upstairs apartment because it's his apartment. It's also why the camera was in there. This should also be why the picture Aava took with the camera of the upstairs window didn't match what he was expecting. The angle was all wrong, because it wasn't taken from her window. Another hint is when the "fake" Aava (negative thoughts, I assume) shows up and repeats words, leading to the sentence: Aava is Henri. Something wrong. Empty up here. Same as before. Repeating. Useless. It ends with her saying it was all his own effort that gave him happiness. Hinting again that the lovable and helpful Aava is actually Henri's positive thoughts.
Hi CJU, loved the walkthrough. My take on this game is that Henri was suicidal this night and maybe was hitting a desperate point, hence him breaking down and asking Aava for help, but because of the shame/guilt he felt he didn’t want her to ask any neighbors for help (letting her in was a huge step for him as well). I think the times that she was going to make a call for help for Henri, it seemed like it took forever bc when you’re in a deep depression, time seems to stand still if it makes sense. So while Aava may have been gone 10-15 minutes, in Henri’s mind it was hours. Perhaps the monsters that Henri sees are representing his dark/harmful thoughts, and dropping the cabinet on the arms was representing him fighting them off. Something else, perhaps the reason Henri threw the knife away after one use is because he was afraid to keep something like that on him in this state, bc he knew he would use it. Also, I’m seeing the cabinet that blocked the door as maybe guilt, shame, depression, and maybe Henri has “hit a wall” in his depression. I think the streets being empty signifies how alone Henri feels, and the point where his window only opens so much signifies how hard it is for him to open up to people.
@@throughtunnel7038 thank you! I just kinda noticed the little things, having been in a severe depressive episode for the past couple of years and starting to try and crawl out of it now. Great game by the way, hope you keep it up!

It kept the atmosphere unsettling. Feels like this whole process whenever I need to go outside. I am a hermit. Going outside gives me a lot of anxiety. I wish I lived by an Aava :D
I can honestly say I've watched your playthrough about 6 times now. There's just something about this game and your playthrough that is just really comforting and enjoyable!
Not all games that you've played tend to manage to get my attention within 5 minutes of the video, but this one does. Might have to do with the atmosphere and details it manage to portray. I quite like it.
At the end when aava is at the doorway, it shows the apartment numbers are '31', didn't she say the fourth floor was empty, but you were on the third floor in the end? Hmm wtf?
@@KingInY3llow In America the first floor of a apartment complex would not have apartments. Other countries thats called the ground floor and the 1st floor is above that so your theory makes sense to me
I wondered that too but they still said the fourth floor, would they say the fourth floor and then number them with threes on their apartments? Maybe I'm looking into it too much
Loving the "Mundaun" playthrough a lot, this one looks like a gem, I will definitely continue watching Chris. Great support and love from your oldest fan, from Georgia (The country in the Eurasia, not state). Thanks for the upload!

1:26:53 i'm surprised no one seems to be talking about the creepy subtle eye overlay on the screen at this point of the game. took him til 1:28:00 for him to even notice them! this playthrough and game are awesome.
This was a ride! Thanks for making it so enjoyable. Really liked the sound design on this one. The music was so oppressive and stressing me out, but then when it’s gone it’s like: oh no, this is worse!! Same with the monsters and Ava’s aphex twin sounding theme song. Really mood setting.
Just like most horror theme, it started off with a curiosity. Henri should listen to CJU, a million possibilities to get out and his self-consciousness is just kinda frustrating.
Funny, I haven’t read one comment about the parallels between this game and silent hill 4: the room. And dude being called Henry, the music. The door being blocked. I mean it’s brilliant. I just love this concept. It’s so creepy to me
Thanks to you I have overcome my fear of the horror genre. Yesterday I completed Layers of Fear before I watched your video. The weird thing is I have played Alone in the Dark and Harvester. Somewhere along the way I got PTSD from too many jump scares. You have also saved me so much money by playing all the terrible games and for that I am grateful
I believe you were right. The guy was dead....it was only in death that he realized that he needed help (wonderful play on things there) It's for people to realize if they start to feel like this guy, where things you love are boring or you feel alone...or whatever. Please ask for help....(as most who commit suicide never do and friends never realize that they are that depressed) Maybe this was a wake up to for people who are around others who notice these behaviours to be more proactive. They might just save someone's life...... Anyways, that was my deep dive and I need to get out of the rabbit hole now
I quite liked this one, especially taking it a little more literally? I agree that the PC is depressed of course, and I think Henri was quite content to just go forward as a lonely and sad recluse...UNTIL he was forcibly trapped in his apartment by ghosts. This night was a catalyst for change for Henri. I don’t want it to be yet another metaphor for emotions, I like it better to think of an emotional journey and also a supernatural one.
this was Great. Gave the feeling you are really in an apartment going crazy all night trying to get out. Lots of intrigue and mystery, tempo is slow for some but still gives the feeling of an all-nighter. Great game. Thank you, for sharing it with us.
It looks like you got a good ending, I think? I think Henri survived? In any case, I'm actually really, really glad. I liked him as a character and was really rooting for him. I hope he'll end up with Aava and find happiness! :) Also, thanks so much for playing this! That was TOO fun to watch, and I don't think I would have even known about it had it not been for your playthrough! Kudos to the developers for a great story!
What about a Cell Phone (in Germany we call it Handy). Everyphone has a Cell Phone, isn´t it so? Henri can use the Window but he can not. How can he live alone, he´s such helpless?
First time I saw one of those monsters I thought of Junji Ito's erector set lady (I'm sure she has a much cooler name but that's the one I have for her). Oh! By the way, there actually IS a segment where you can interact with the toilet itself, not just the cover. I'm not 100% on how to get it but I think after turning the TV on, you have to get up and then go to the bathroom. The bad end contains some more info on what's going on, the monsters and just the overall weirdness. However! It's still confusing as hell, it's cool but even having seen that, I still don't get it. While I'm tempted to say it's just Henri in a kind of limbo state where he has to move past what held him back in life before moving on, I just don't think it's that. I do think he's still alive but that for whatever reason, there's something truly unknowable happening that night in that area. His emotional pain and depression maybe influences or lures things. The mysterious notes seem to say this night might be an actual living thing...in a sense, seemingly predatory in nature and only by Henri and Aava working together can they get through the night alive. I reread them, kinda sounds like, put simply "Henri, we're sick of your moping, it's going to stop one way or another." The last one, it's clearly talking about Aava and Henri, the whole hope and the hopeless part but..they can't coexist after this night. The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end...I don't know if Aava is real, at least not every Aava we see. (Not just the weird metal poles in the eyes Aava). I don't know what causes people to change, if that's what's happening...I'm so confused. I want more. More from the dev and more games set in this world. (Also, just once I'd like to see a straightforward cult or group. No vague notes or poems or puzzles, no, just "There's some freaky demonic type stuff going on tonight. We messed up some rituals, terribly sorry, completely our bad, so unless you wanna run across tentacles coming out of gatling gun arms stay inside with your windows locked and curtains drawn." Not good for a serious game, of course but still...just once, even if just a cheeky game.) Sorry for the novel, I'm done now, promise.
I've heard people say if you turn up your gamma, they start like midway through the game. I don't own it so I'm unsure if it's true or where exactly midway starts.
1:50:49 SPOILER Euneirophrenia is the name of the ending and the definition of that is a pleasant feeling after a good dream. So he was either dreaming or dead.
Wow I loved this. love a good slow burn game that creeps me out over time. I was watching this late at night and got pretty unnerved by it. very curious about the other ending(s) and wtf those things were that he saw. I relate to Henri and his feelings a little too well....
I think RL here should collaborate with N4BA (Wrong Floor & From The Darkness). They can handle monster design & some of the more surreal story points while N4BA handles level design & graphics. I think the two of them together could make the next Silent Hill.
This is a really interesting game and a great premise. Totally horrifying. I can't believe it's the dev's first game and I'm totally excited to see what they do in the future! Though I wish he had opened the window with the people outside and asked for help! They could have ignored him or something, but at least he would've tried. That being said, I think we've all been in situations where we needed help but we couldn't bring ourselves to do it.
Dude I just got around to watching your play through of "The house on the hill" and I swear that picture at 7:25 is the same pic of the family in that game!

I really liked this game. It kept the atmosphere unsettling. Feels like this whole process whenever I need to go outside. I am a hermit. Going outside gives me a lot of anxiety. I wish I lived by an Aava :D
I really did enjoy the slow burn of this game. Lots to interpret for sure. Thanks for another treat Chris!
Henri knew he'd made a terrible mistake when he bought the 'Excessively French Arthouse Surrealist TV Package'.
Thank you! There's quite a bit he missed, small things. But great playthrough nonetheless!
Somehow, however late I am for sleep, CJU uploads at that exact moment. Again I have to postpone my sleep. 😂😂😂😂
At the end when aava is at the doorway, it shows the apartment numbers are '31', didn't she say the fourth floor was empty, but you were on the third floor in the end? Hmm wtf?
Maybe the actual first floor isn't used for apartments so the 4th floor is in turn the 3rd... But maybe it does mean something
the first floor probably starts at the number 0
@@KingInY3llow In America the first floor of a apartment complex would not have apartments. Other countries thats called the ground floor and the 1st floor is above that so your theory makes sense to me
I wondered that too but they still said the fourth floor, would they say the fourth floor and then number them with threes on their apartments? Maybe I'm looking into it too much
The scariest thing in this game is Aava wearing green crew socks with high heels.
That's her urban exploration wardrobe.
Very retro...I had friends in Europe who had that style about 10 years ago...:)

I think it's Charming :-)
I simply loved this game! I think he saves him self in the end. And in the end, he was in the 31 apartament, not in the 4º floor. Hmmm...
Thank you! And hmm indeed...
Mix that with the picture Aava slides under the door showing that apartments window but directly across from her.
Your TV girl voice was 👌
I love seeing the long vids. Was really excited when you said it was gonna be a long one coming up on your Twitter.
Much love Buddy❤️
I really enjoyed this! Incredibly unsettling and never fully explained, just enough creepiness to get under my skin. I'd love to see more by this dev!
Loving the "Mundaun" playthrough a lot, this one looks like a gem, I will definitely continue watching Chris.
Great support and love from your oldest fan, from Georgia (The country in the Eurasia, not state). Thanks for the upload!
How old are you?
@@PaintedTurtle001 24
@@NivenHedinger I'm 27! You are not old
@@Crystalblood92 By oldest I meant that I used to watch him when he had his first channel and then he started CJUgames channel, I loved his content when I was in school and he inspired me to become game developer, Chris is the best. I hope one day he plays one of my games.
Ngl this one really scared me. That fucking thing standing under the clock? No thanks
An almost two hours long video tonight! Wooo hoo! Thanks, Chris!
Theres something comforting about all your horror play throughs (I find myself sometimes watching them whenever I wake up at 4/5am lol) ANYWAY, what im trying to say is I HOPE YOU NEVER STOP PLAYING HORROR GAMES 😊✨
1:26:53 i'm surprised no one seems to be talking about the creepy subtle eye overlay on the screen at this point of the game. took him til 1:28:00 for him to even notice them! this playthrough and game are awesome.
Absolutely a good one , the story was good and funny too , glad CJU covered this for us
I recently watched the ABG playthrough of this game and the ambiance and theme really resonated with me. Good to see you playing this as well
This was a ride! Thanks for making it so enjoyable.
Really liked the sound design on this one. The music was so oppressive and stressing me out, but then when it’s gone it’s like: oh no, this is worse!!
Same with the monsters and Ava’s aphex twin sounding theme song. Really mood setting.
Thanks! Music was mostly made by Gazers. Here's a link to the OST:
gazers.bandcamp.com/album/blank-frame-official-soundtrack
Just like most horror theme, it started off with a curiosity. Henri should listen to CJU, a million possibilities to get out and his self-consciousness is just kinda frustrating.
Euneirophrenia: The satisfied feeling of waking-up from a pleasant dream.
Funny, I haven’t read one comment about the parallels between this game and silent hill 4: the room. And dude being called Henry, the music. The door being blocked. I mean it’s brilliant. I just love this concept. It’s so creepy to me
This is genuinely one of my favourite Let's plays on your channel
Poor CJU can't go to the bathroom and investigate. Yaaaaayyyyyyy a long video. 🤗🤗🤗
I love it when you react to things and then the protagonist reacts immediately after in the same way.
yep something like that feels been depressed and trapped
Thanks to you I have overcome my fear of the horror genre. Yesterday I completed Layers of Fear before I watched your video. The weird thing is I have played Alone in the Dark and Harvester. Somewhere along the way I got PTSD from too many jump scares. You have also saved me so much money by playing all the terrible games and for that I am grateful
I believe you were right. The guy was dead....it was only in death that he realized that he needed help (wonderful play on things there)
It's for people to realize if they start to feel like this guy, where things you love are boring or you feel alone...or whatever. Please ask for help....(as most who commit suicide never do and friends never realize that they are that depressed) Maybe this was a wake up to for people who are around others who notice these behaviours to be more proactive. They might just save someone's life......
Anyways, that was my deep dive and I need to get out of the rabbit hole now
I love when you play games like this, especially in 1 video.
1:27:06 "there might have been some subtle changes i'll only notice in editing" Like those freakin' EYES that just appeared? :D
i love surreal games and games where the envirenment changes with characters coming ang going like this. makes the world feel lived in.
I love the longer videos. Also am I the only one who wants him to bring back a compilation of "terrible indy horror games"
The design of the curtain monster is simply genius
Damn the sound design to this game is good. The music is a1 steak sauce as well.
Was just watching one of your videos from a year ago 💯
What about a Cell Phone (in Germany we call it Handy).
Everyphone has a Cell Phone, isn´t it so?
Henri can use the Window but he can not.
How can he live alone, he´s such helpless?
Very cool game! I never could cheerfully deal with the creepiness as you do...thanks !
A video on a Saturday night. oh boy its snacks time.
Thanks for all the good work mate.
Good game, Chris, and game devs. I really enjoyed it, thanks.
This was a great game and an awesome playthrough. The character interaction was really sweet, too.
I need to order some food for this one 🍕
Got my ice cream, it's a stormy night, darkened room, nearly 2 hour video. Yes, perfect!
I really enjoyed this. I love the style, the music and your commentary. Great video!😁👍
I laughed so hard when you were watching the channel with the space and then earth came on and you're like "mmhmm mmhmm that's where we are" 😂🌎
First time I saw one of those monsters I thought of Junji Ito's erector set lady (I'm sure she has a much cooler name but that's the one I have for her).
A man after my own heart... with the taste in videos
This game looks like it's being rendered at a quarter PAL resolution, displayed on a half-dead 13" CRT TV that has Vaseline rubbed on its screen.
Loving the Finnish names and words. As a Finn it's so cool to see my language anywhere. :D
That t.v. girl voice over is priceless! Well done! hahaha
1:26:54 not even going to mention the eyes? no way you don't see these.
i'm going to assume you were going insane from sleep depravation.
1:26:55 please tell me that I'm not the only one who can see the eyes?
I've heard people say if you turn up your gamma, they start like midway through the game. I don't own it so I'm unsure if it's true or where exactly midway starts.
Yep, I see them.
@@Zombemi cool detail. That timestamp was the first time I notice the eyes. Wonder how early they appear in the video.
@Alexander Taylor I JUST came here to say this!
Still trying to figure out the TV puzzle. Maybe I'll get back to this one day.
Thanks for keeping me company while I pack to move to the UK, CJU :)
Reminds me alot of Silent Hill 4 The Room, must be a tribute to that game
1:50:49 SPOILER
Euneirophrenia is the name of the ending and the definition of that is a pleasant feeling after a good dream. So he was either dreaming or dead.
That game was amaazing. Wish more games would be like that
Thank you. I'll put out a new game later this year, although it will be very different style. Set in same town.
Love all of your videos! 😊😁
Wow I loved this. love a good slow burn game that creeps me out over time. I was watching this late at night and got pretty unnerved by it. very curious about the other ending(s) and wtf those things were that he saw. I relate to Henri and his feelings a little too well....
I liked it. Pretty well paced for a 2 hours game.
That was cool cjugames blank frame
I think RL here should collaborate with N4BA (Wrong Floor & From The Darkness). They can handle monster design & some of the more surreal story points while N4BA handles level design & graphics. I think the two of them together could make the next Silent Hill.
Loved this play through, great game!
Yeay, new video! Watch first sleep later
I loved silent hill 4 and this really reminds me of it...great game.
This is like the third time I see this pop up in my recommendations and every time I read the title in the thumbnail as "Blame Frank".
Ahhh this is a story of anxiety i can tell.
Depression and anxiety yeah you can tell. Espically if you watch and can relate.
Ooooh... almost 2 Hours
Henri is literally the worse at explaining his situation 🤣
Dude I just got around to watching your play through of "The house on the hill" and I swear that picture at 7:25 is the same pic of the family in that game!
