I feel it might be a divisive thing, but I really appreciated the slow, meandering start. One, it built up a sense of tension and unease, two, it let you organically try and investigate, with no real prompting, what was going on, what the background was, putting the story together. Not many games are prepared to give the player the time to experience that. Also, chucking in the bit with the cop, giving you a gun, tricking you into feeling 'safe' was a great way to really shoot that tension up, for the climax. That said, the sudden descent into nonsensical Lovecraftian geometry and physics at the end was a bit sudden. The office being five times bigger on the inside, and then the massive labyrinth with deep pits and dozens of washing machines...weird. Weird, but effective.
Agreed, I enjoyed the voice acting, in particularly the various characters felt like different people. The jump scares were a bit much, but still fitting in that over the top 80's style. The atmosphere was also on point in that regard.
I love it when games have additional content! This was made with love, and it shows. I wonder if and to what extent the investigation affects the ending.
This was good! I liked the 80's horror film atmosphere. You can see they put a lot of work into this, with the voice acting, the mini-games, the comics, all the different locations... It was indeed maybe a bit long-ish, but that's a minor quibble. Oh and yay, Sara survived!
The devs must like 80s pop & rock music lol since their games have many references...... The phone number on the bathroom wall, is def a reference to an 80s song by Tommy Tutone. The phone number is the song title, but it also goes by "Jenny". The song was several years before my time, but I instantly remembered the chorus when you said the phone number aloud lol
I personally believe this is hands down the scariest horror game for anyone that has had to use a real laundromat and not cause of the story. The wait is agonizing.
I've lived in a couple of seedy, rough inner-city neighborhoods, but this one is next level. 😬 Remind me to never use a laundromat again. I liked the game. I didn't mind the in-game distractions because, although they slowed down play, they were fun, moved the story forward, and built a little tension. I'm also glad you (Sara) lived. 👍
So being burned badly enough to lose your child makes you a super human who can lift people one handed, drive spikes through solid metal, take multiple bullets (be declared dead enough to go to the morgue), get partially cut open in the morgue, and then survive well enough to run off and kill more people. Screw radioactive spiders, being nearly burned alive is where it's at for super powers.
That number remindeded me of something... Dorothy: _Blanche, unlock this door or I swear I'm going to write your number in this stall._ Blanch: _Dorothy, this is the ladies room._ Dorothy: _EXACTLY._
Aw, and I was thinking the TWEEST would be that it was Louis and Samantha's child that survived the fire that grew up to be the Womb Ripper, but I guess Jason Voorhees has a monopoly on having "Kill for Mommy" as a motivation.
This game was fantastic! Well played CJU! BTW did anyone noticed? That guy named Patron in 19:15, he kind a looks like the actor called Joe spinell from the movie Maniac (1980). Nice!
I appreciate that this game rewards exploring. The game could be really linear, since the washer and dryer seem to be on a real timer instead of requiring some sort of event to finish, but it still leaves detailed collectibles to be found as well as actual plot that can be found by exploration. Very well done in my opinion.
Loved this playthrough this was a good game the story was entertaining especially the occasional comic relief and the voice acting was great. Is it just me or does it say "tit" in the final shot? Maybe it's foreshadowing BloodWash 2: Attack of the BoobSnatcher 😂
Well, that was unexpectedly rather amazing! So much content packed into such a "little" game! All those voice artists, comic artists, some little 2D handheld console game, plus the rather horrifying main game -- and it all worked (even though you, Chris, found it a little "slow", which I found funny given that you didn't mind the horror games that had you serving customers at a convenience store, or a fast-food restaurant. But apparently doing your laundry is a step too far into the mundane😂). I also liked the variety of characters you got to control, the creepy guy on the bus (actually, I liked all the incidental characters, even the meanish ones) and the appropriately gory murders (which I normally would not say, but they really worked here). This was a better homage to the slasher film than some games that _say_ they're a homage to slasher films. Hope to see more from Black Eyed Priest (Jordan King) and Henry Hoare. Thanks for playing and sharing, CJU!
This game was suprisingly good, i think btw samantha's baby survived and grew up there in the old laundrymat with her. Remember the crying of a baby. The baby is the second killer? Idk how many years she has been gone but maybe?
Does anyone else want to see how long the show and two movies went? Because I wanted to watch them myself. XD Edit: The only two tapes I recognize at 31:16 are ET and Hellraiser. And I consider myself lucky to even spot those two.
The only one I could recognize is She's Having A Baby (third row from bottom, second from right). It's frustrating cause some of the others look soooo familiar but I just can't place them!
So freaky! 2 days ago I was browsing through my steam games to kill time, I found this game, played it and I enjoyed it a lot. By the time I finished playing it I thought, Oh I would love to watch Chris playing it and see what he says about it... And today I see it on my notifications!!!! Joy!!!
This game does a good job in the feeling of truly feeling alone in a creepy area. Especially as a girl... And the fucking tension in the last fight. The game had cheap jumpscares but the atmosphere is pretty good.
Guessed the killer pretty quickly (well, relatively once you know about the person), but was still a fun play through. Would be interested in seeing more of the TV stuff and how the other various items might interact with people. Just have too big of a backlog I think to grab another game just yet :)
I guessed it pretty quickly too, but only because I had heard a real life equivalent a decade or so back. Not a serial killer but a desperate delusional person who wanted to be a mom so bad that she did something similar. It was a real wtf moment i had back then and i was reminded of it the instant he mentioned “womb ripper.” Wonder if the dev knew about the story?
@@Dartace2ace Yeah I thought psychologically it made some sense, though my first thought was she was trying to get the babies to raise as her own but they didn't survive the 'removal' so she kept doing it rather than just trying to take away something from women that she couldn't have. Who knows though, I might have heard a similar story (or was there a horror movie with a similar theme?) and it just drew my thoughts from that without realizing it.
This was a great game, even with the wait between laundry cycles. It gave you a couple of things to do. What was a nice addition was the past time of reading comic books.
Just wanted to point out I think "Patron" in the laundry place is modeled after the actor Joe Spinell, most known for his role in Maniac as the titular killer. The voice is somewhat similar too if less New Yawkish.
