From a guitarist: THANK YOU!!! I hate when I lay down some guitar for someone just to recognize later that my guitar riff or progression just gets reversed or pitched down and now I'm off the credit somehow? Shit is whack but honestly musicians start to get used to it. Glad this is being put out there tho.

A kinda friend of mine, a talented singer asked me for a beat last year, I was given a reference. So I sent him the v1 because he needed it asap, the beat was pretty much there. He wrote the song on top of it, then asked me to send the chords and vocal chops to his "pro" producer, I did it. He (the singer) told me I was gonna be given credits for my work. 3 months after that, he released a song. My chords (I mean, you don't own chord but you know...) and my vocal chops. No credits, not even an Instagram shoutout haha, just me being ignored. I understand he is investing in his career, paying to a producer with 15 years of experience and shit but... Nah man I felt bad, felt like if the big producer didn't give me any credits was because I didn't deserve them :(

I'm almost certain your "friend" just brought what you gave him to his producer and said make this a song. If I was that artist, I would much rather work with my friend and make the song together for free than pay somebody to do it for me. I wish I knew people locally that even were interested in music. Much less actually make it. But I feel you bro, it's either they just want a beat or they don't even want to work with you. Like other comments have said, brand yourself as an artist, not just a producer, and demand respect from people who want to work with you. Take the requests as serious as you take your music career and they will respect it.

Elton john doesn't get co-producer credit when Kanye samples him (one example) so, why would I share prod credit with someone who had nothing to do with the end result...
Don't get me wrong. They're still credited they just don't share full production.

@@amanplayingsaxophoneintheh9994 The point is Kanye is listed as the producer. Because Kanye had the vision for the beat and ultimately the record. So why would Elton get a production credit on something he conceptually had little to do with?
Yes, he created the original song that inspired a new record but that's why he's credited as the songwriter, Not producer.
The point I am making is that we have a ton of loop producers walking around like they actually produced hit records when all they did was make a loop pack.
It took a producer to hear the loop, have an idea, craft it and create something that an artist wants to jump on.
