Just wanted to share that despite all the many other self help channels and gurus, Im drawn to how you both sound (very calming! and not overwhelming.) It feels safe and reassuring. I also appreciate how you guys approach your topics with thoughtfulness, intention and sincerity. Nice to see a father son duo diving into these topics!
4 questions to ask yourself: 1. What am I letting go of? 2. What am i taking in 3. What is working for me right now that I want to cultivate more of? 4. What do I want to celebrate a year from now? Love this! Simple and straight to the point. Thank you for this ✨
42:00 😮🤯 Dr. Hanson this part REALLY spoke to me! I've always struggled with this. I grew up in a home that checked all of the ACEs boxes and instilled in me the ~vital~ importance of putting everyone else first, but the idea of going beyond ~self love~ and actively being on my own side is... holy bananas. Wow. I didn't really put it together that the simple things like taking care of myself and my basic needs are the *real* pieces of vital importance. Dang. Wow. Oh, and now Forrest is talking about exactly the aversion I grew up with! How perfect! You two are wonderful, and I REALLY appreciate being able to sit and (actively!) listen to your conversations! ❤❤❤ Thank you both so much!
Forest you should be so confident in your work. Listening to you, your dad, and elizabeth comforts me so much. You all speak with such Intelligence and peace. Thank you for being the self help person I go to!
While I can relate to your desire to feel more confident about your work, and I wish that for you, too, I also just want to say that one thing I especially appreciate about you is your carefulness and modesty. I feel so many podcast hosts and similar talk like they are experts whether they are or not, as if admitting or being honest about where you are coming from or limits to your level of expertise about a topic is something negative. I feel that kind of confidence can be captivating at first, but I find your gentleness and transparency much more appealing and professional.
Hi Forrest. You are presenting this material in your own way. I've listened to countless channels like yours, but you and your dad are my NUMBER ONE choice. What you say just deeply resonates with me and watching the relationship between you and your dad just strengthens the message. You are making a difference in my life. Don't stop posting. You are providing a serious service to your listeners! Best.
I really love you guys so much, I’m doing some of the work you introduced me to from Diane Poole Heller. Installing the protector. I have started imagining that you are my dad and brother, I hope that is okay! You both help me regulate, and then I also get to have Elizabeth as the most awesome sister in law ever. Happy New Year to your entire family! ❤
I would have been really disappointed if on the first week of the new year there hadn't been a new Forrest and Rick episode. ❤ think you, that was wonderful and useful as always
Want to add to other comments how your podcast is one of my most favorite, among thousands of what’s available. I really appreciate your effort of collecting information, putting in structure, recapping for people so we can easily follow, your kind consideration and carefulness, practical questions, etc. I also love a combination of calming voice and laughters of both of you. Thank you so much for your works. They really give me a good start into a day, a friend while commuting, and help calm me down in times of storm. ❤
Feeling inspired after listening to this episode - excellent achievable advice.I I keep coming back to your podcast because what you share is real and authentic… even though there are hundreds of people sharing similar stuff - they aren’t sharing it in the way that you do - please keep going and believe in what you are offering - there are people like me that need to hear your voice .. everything that you put out is honest and authentic.. from a very grateful listener ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks Forrest for a great start to 2024. I've been a subscriber for awhile but became a member today. Thanks for creating great content to support finding ways to a more joyful walk on the path.
I had Forrest's first 3 questions with my team at work during our last team meeting of 2023. I will add what I would like to celebrate a year from now for my personal reflection. I really don't vibe with SMART goal thing. My brain does it differently.
Thankyou Forrest, i too am still quite new to your podcasts, however i am really enjoying them and they are really helping at this time. Best wishes to you and yours.
Intention also needs to come from the heart for it to feel authentic and embodied. A top down approach is more involved with the mind and cognition. Thank you for making us reflect on meaningful subjects.
I came across your podcast on Spotify and listened to your episode on authenticity. I loved it so much I had to listen to more. I absolutely love this episode. So many nuggets of gold...I love the way you both bounce ideas and perspectives off one another. "Rick learns about the internet" 😂 Too cute! Your podcast is so refreshing compared to all of the saturated material out there that sounds so alike it's like people are reading a script. I will definitely be sharing with my friends and family!
The collage idea reminds me of the “Possibilities” book she creates in the movie “Last Holiday” 😊 This idea is so helpful…the acting on our dreams in a tangible way…even if they haven’t quite come to fruition. ❤
So here's a question for you: What if your goals CANNOT be specific, measurable, or for sure attainable? For example, I have recently separated from my abusive, covert narcissistic husband. He lied to our three kids and turned them against me, so I moved out alone and live on my own now. I would LOVE to set a goal of making progress in my healing from all the abuse, and of winning my kids back by the end of 2024, but that is largely out of my hands. Yes, there are things I can do to heal, but I can't ever officially say, "I'm healed!" And my kids are teens and the courts will not force them to live with me; they need to realize the truth on their own and make their own choices. Yet those are the things I want most for 2024. So how on earth can I set goals around those things? I know I'm not alone in having goals like this. I can be on my own side, I can write positive affirmations, I can go to therapy, I can journal, I can have compassion for myself, I can refuse to give up, and I can focus on things I care about all I want, but that won't guarantee any kind of change or "Goal Accomplished" checkmark by December 31st. I'll probably make progress in my healing, but mental and emotional healing can't be easily defined or quantified.
Forrest: Apologies for saying this because your content is foremost, & it's great. You're a good looking guy, and I'm currently watching your episode on self worth & see you had a slight beard & mustache, & you look truly beautiful. It may be because of the color contrast between your light skin & dark hair or because of the way facial hair changes the way the light hits your features, but it really amps up your good looks. There it is. I know facial hair has to suit one's significant other, and I hope yours encourages it. 🧔All the best in 2024. Thank you for your work.
When you apologize in advance for saying something, it might be best to just not say it. In a professional context such as this podcast, I believe it's inappropriate to comment on someone's personal appearance. Yikes.
@@pacummiskey Yeah, he's a good looking guy. Looks even better w the shadow. 👍 Noticing his physicality doesn't diminish the integrity of his work, but I felt compelled to apologize. I'm not sure why... Gotta think about that one.
Thank you for this episode! I am fairly new to the pod and I am finding tremendous value already ✨ Also love the recaps at the end Forrest, they are so helpful!
Focused listener here 🖖😜 many thanks to both of you for this episode! lots of food for thought that i'll be certainly aiming to integrate throughout this year. May you both have a very peaceful and blessed 2024! Be well
Amazing as ever. Thank you Forrest and Rick, am a huge fan of your weekly podcast/TH-cam vids. Have personally gained so much insight & many beneficial tips from you both ❤ Happy New Year to you both from the UK 💗 🎉
Perhaps some of your lack of confidence comes from your intelligent awareness of how much you don’t know. There are plenty of content creators out there who are less intelligent and much less aware of how much they don’t know. Keep being you, Forrest. We are here because we love hearing your take on things as an intelligent, knowledgeable, humble, authentic human being.
