In this video I finish the top for my Roubo inspired workbench. It is constructed from LVL (laminated veneer lumber - commonly used in construction as floor joists), red oak and walnut. One reason why I used LVL beams is they are an engineered product and do not move (no wood expansion). I used 6 quarter red oak and walnut around the edges and 3 quarter red oak "veneer" on the surface of my workbench. This way I get a 6 inch workbench top but only have to buy 3 quarter thick hardwood.
A feature I added was the removable/flippable walnut trays in the centre of the bench. These are great for holding tools and when they fill up with wood chips I just take them out and dump them. With the top and base, the workbench weights around 350-400 pounds and is as sturdy as a rock. Once filled with tools, I estimate this workbench weights around 600 pounds. Enjoy!
