      Kristopher Marsh Really thank you, unfortunately
      I built this bench without using any plans or drawings! Only my measuring tape.
      I should think of that in future for sure.
      I love to join wood with wood naturally without glue or screws but this is not always easy.
      I have built a tool cabinet without using any glue if you wish to watch on my channel.
      Cheers

    You are a master craftsman not just a woodcrafter! Fantastic work! Just surprised to see Gorilla glue used and not Titebond. Would you mind sharing what you used to finish it with and the ratio of each. I couldn't see all of it in the video. As my husband and I discussed, this looks like a piece of top of the line furniture. I would love to see you build furniture too! Also when cutting a tenon why do you stop short, knock the excess off and then chisel out the corner edge? Anyway, great job.

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Karen, my pleasure reading your comment!
      I am using Gorilla glue for almost all my projects in the past 3 years and have no issues so far, if I did I will share that on my channel.
      The finish I used was a mix of Tung oil finish + Mineral spirit and pine resin, the ratios are 1/3 for each approximate, and that is not super critical ratio, we are not making medicine here 🙂, and pine resin is hard to find so ignore it, I have posted another mini workbench and I used pure tung oil 60% mixed with polyurethane 20% and a little pine resin, that mixture gave a matte finish and good protection, The Dwarfed Behemoth Roubo Bench with Arms (The making of the body).
      th-cam.com/video/cgNh3cjGbAk/w-d-xo.html
      Don’t be boggled by the finish ratio you can always mix little quantities and try it on a scrape piece to see if it works as you like or require modifications.

      About that chiseling technique, I was using the mortising bit without the drill bit installed when I was cleaning the edges, you can call that experimenting, as I found that the drill bit is deflecting when pressing it near the edges leaving round shapes on the edge which doesn’t seem very straight to me, but that’s me.
      I am planning to start working on furniture projects soon.

    Hi, that is a beautiful build. I am curious about why you are using the hollow core mortiser without the internal drill bit? You seemed to be drilling out the waste and then chiseling the mortise to size as two steps while it appears the mortiser should be doing that as a single step?

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, yes that is right the mortising drill bit should be used with both the drill bit and it’s square chisel, the issue is when the mortise is bigger than the bit size it will leave part of the bit hanging in the air causing it to drift as there is no enough wood to support it while drilling, so I removed much of the material with the drill bit alone and then cleaned the edges with the square chisel alone to make sure everything is square! I am trying different techniques from time to time! What I learned from this one was, it cuts accurate but it is very slow as you have to remove little material with each pass, and as there is no bit rotating to remove the waste then you have to clean the square chisel from time to time to avoid clogging it! That wasn’t filmed to make the video less boring! Hope you will find this helpful.

    When it comes to "gluing" wood today; there is NO need to use copious amounts of glue. Yes, in olden days when they used mostly animal glue, the glue would dry out over time. But not today. You would be amazed how glue holds today, using only a small amount. Try it and put in a vise and use a hammer to break the pieces apart. The seam holds like bolted together; yet the wood is opened up all over the grains, but not at that seam. Oh indeed. Try it.

    Excelente trabajo, que mezcla de aceites usas para proteger la madera?

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      puedes mezclar poliuretano con aceite de tung o aceite de linaza, ese aceite espeso que he usado al principio es difícil de encontrar, así que olvídalo, se llama aceite de pino y no hará una gran diferencia. buena suerte

    Excellent piece of work, I’d be afraid to use it in case I scratched it! I see we both shop at Axminster too, they have some lovely stuff. Regards , Mike from Cornwall, UK.

    One of the best workbenches I've seen. The parts I like are what you don't use so expensive vises like others. I can buy the vises from Amazon. Just about the leg vise, where did you buy the bushing and the steel rod? Or they come with the vise?

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 🤝, the steel rod didn’t come with the vise actually! I bought it from steel supply store and made the bushings on a local lathe shop from hard teflon like material.
      Hope this will help you!
      Just mind that the steel rod must be aligned perfectly to function properly.
      Good luck though

    Very enjoyable videos! Your craftsmanship in both woodworking and in videography is top drawer. I understand the need for a small bench if you have to work in a small shop. My current bench is only 5 feet in length (~150 cm) and 2 feet wide ((~60 cm), and it is quite large enough for big projects. When I move into a larger shop next year, I may build a longer Roubo, but who knows? I really like your deadman design, btw.

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you James, that was my 2nd bench and still thinking If one day I will have a bigger workshop I will make longer one, would love to see your new one when you finish it! If you have a LumberJock account maybe.

    What dowel maker is that? I must have one.

    • @TheWoodCrafter1
      @TheWoodCrafter1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      its the dowel max, made in Canada, you can have different dowel sizes using the same jig, but you need to buy the additional drill bit inserts. good luck

      @@TheWoodCrafter1 The dowel jig is a dowel max. First saw it here and now I want one! I believe he uses a Veritas Tapered Tenon Cutter (looks like 3/8") to form the dowels with a hand drill and a socket to rotate the square blank through the cutter. You can get the cutters in various sizes from Lee Valley Tools for about $50 each. I'm in the process of building a Roubo bench and watched this video series. Fantastic tips and information to help my build. Great work. Thank you for posting it!

    You have made a masterpiece and the video is wonderful.
    I've never seen such a perfection.
    There is only one thing we miss: the sizes of the full workbench and the dimensions of each component.
    At least length, height, depth and mainly the thickness of the top table (maybe 15 cm.?).
    Thanks again for you very good job.
