  • This week our host Mauricio Izquierdo takes us to Peru, where Chinese culture thrives among indigenous customs. Chinese immigrants have been able to retain many of their ancient traditions while fully integrating themselves into Peruvian culture. Approximately five million people with Chinese last names now live in Peru. Then it’s off to the Andes where we hear the sounds of ancient sikuri music now being kept alive by a group of artists that practice indigenous ways of life. Although the Spanish conquerors tried to wipe out all traces of indigenous music, it is alive and well today. teleSUR

Why call them Chinese if they live in Peru? Wouldn't that make them Peruvians too?

At that time, it was favorable for Peruvian women to marry Chinese men since the women would become the mistress and command her Chinese "husband" like servant due to Peruvian law at the time.

anyone in History stopped Chinesemen gambling every day and every hour? the owners of Peru hacienda chained Chinese workers to the beds, that can prevent them from betting or playing majong, that was in 1860s,
