Why can't the Japanese be the largest in the United States outside Japan, because Japanese really love American culture on TV, American movies and English heard in anime, I don't see any popularity of brazilian culture in Japanese mass media and brazil is not an English country that it doesn't make any sense and so many Japanese largely learn English, right?
Because America is the first to have the Japanese after the philipines and, before brazil, but since I love the Japanese people thinking there are more in the English speaking countries for a lot of them learning English and move to English countries, but Australia is the closest English country to Japan and I don't know why this didn't get millions so maybe this one should have millions in Australia today of this era, since it's too much money to go to another world of far away English countries like the United States and I"m not sure why Canada didn't get many Japanese and North America should be the largest Japanese ethnic strong presence in the world today of this era, not in latin america and even though peru almost has the largest, but has thousands, but I wouldn't mind there is a large strong ethnic presence majority of Chinese or Koreans in brazil if happened, but the Chinese were in brazil for 200 years and it should have millions by now, right?

I feel depressed sometimes on this era that there are less Japanese in America then in brazil, because America is the real large Japanese community home of the Japanese people outside Japan in the international English world as the same case with the large Polish community home of the Polish people that are less in brazil and more in America!

Even Hispanic/Latinos that were born in America think they are a race because America made it that way, my mom is Afro Brazilian and one of her friends told her “she couldn’t be both”. To me being Latino means you’re from a Latin country in South America that speaks a Latin language, Spanish or Portuguese, even back than French Canadians were counted as Latinos

It’s interesting to me how there are a few countries in South America and Latin America generally, that are not native Spanish speaking, as well as indigenous societies that are not Spanish speaking, but these lands and groups are oft overlooked.
Like: Suriname, French Guyana, Aruba, Belize. And the massive indigenous folk of Peru, Ecuador, Central America, and parts of Mexico, amongst others.
And Brazil I guess, although as I understand it, Brazil is felt to be Latino but not Hispanic. Even though Portuguese is a language based in the Iberian Peninsula, which was the historical Roman province of Hispania.

There's a lot of asians living here and made Peru their homeland , Peru is very diverse , we're a mix of different cultures like African , White , Brunette , Indian , Spanish , Italian , Chinese , Japanese , etc . Here's another fact when it comes to Asians living in Latin American and even some Caribbean countries. They're more likely to mix and mingle with the general population compared to Asians living in the US or Canada. In both the US and Canada, every ethnic group lives in their own enclave. It also seems like everyone specifically in the US are at each other's throats for one reason or another. The disputes could be about race, politics, religion or whatever is a hot button issue. Jessica Smith same with blacks, they’re in the genes of most Latin countries, Mexico had as many blacks sent there as the USA, but weren’t forcibly separated as much in Mexico that they blended in, you can only tell when you do a dna test and it comes out.

It's because there are no active anti-miscegenation laws in former Spanish colonies. In fact they even encouraged miscegenation so you can go up the social caste.
@@jms6605 It's true many Hispanics do have some African ancestry along with Native American ancestry. Even if it's a small amount. Mexico in particular ended slavery in 1830 under Vicente Guerrero, who had partial African ancestry himself. Which means technically Mexico had a black president nearly 180 years prior to the US, when Barrack Obama got elected in 2008. And Obama isn't even fully black. He's mixed himself.

Cuba had more Chinese than in the United States. There are three active duty Cuban generals of Chinese descent. Cuba has a monument dedicated to all the Chinese-Cubans that fought against Spain for Independence.
Tens of thousands of Chinese also fled to Mexico in the late 1800s and beginning of the 1900s to escape US anti-Chinese racism.

@kr tu - As an absolute number there were more Chinese in Cuba than the US in the latter 19th Century. There were nearly as many Chinese in Mexico, to where many Chinese escaped the terrible racism and indentured servitude in the US. Chinese became very integrated into Cuban and Mexican life largely in markets, restaurants and...laundries.
Unfortunately, in the 1930s in Mexico during the Great Depression right-wing Mexican business owners and a Mexican fascist movement called the "Camisas Doradas" (Golden Shirts-sound familiar?) whipped up anti-Chinese racism because the Chinese ran a large percentage of the market stalls in Northern and Central Mexico, and these Mexican businesses wanted to eliminate the competition. Five Mexican states passed anti-miscegination laws making it illegal for Mexicans to marry Chinese. This culminated in armed round ups of thousands of Chinese. Thousands were 'deported' in one night in 1931 and then more to the United States in 1931-32 where they were put in concentration camps, mainly in Arizona. Some were sent to China and others escaped to other parts of the US. Many of the Chinese restaurants in Southwestern USA were established by Chinese deported from Mexico.
In Cuba many of the Chinese business people left after the 1959 revolution, many to establish restaurants in New York. But many Chinese working people supported the Cuban revolution and stayed. Today there are three Chinese-Cuban Generals in the Cuban armed forces: Armando Choy, Gustavo Chui, and Moises Sio Wong.
History is far more rich and complex than the whitewashed versions we are taught.
There is also an interesting history of Chinese indentured servants working in Kentucky, USA in the 1840s to allegedly replace slavery. These Chinese workers most likely brought the first steel making to the United States in what became named the "Bessemer" crucible steel method already in practice in China for hundreds of years before Europe or the US started steelmaking.
Also, Chinese were hired as sugarcane plantation workers in Mississippi right after the Civil War. Their Afro-Chinese descendents still live there and in Louisiana to this day.

In my country of Colombia I met a korean guy who lived here most if his life, then emigrated to the States, and now has returned. He is trully an Asian Latino. Peru and Brazil are probably the countries where that particular prescence is the highest.

Peru comes to mind. A lot of Asians especially Japanese made their home in Peru. It is commonplace to find Peruvians who are mixed with Japanese.
This video was incredibly inspiring. Growing up mixed with Korean and Puerto Rican roots, I didn't know how many other Latin/Asian mixes there were.
Liz Figueroa there are many more than people realize. My father is from Mexicali in northern Mexico which had a sizeable Chinese community. In Baja California many Japanese and now Koreans settled there for business. Japanese and Chinese foods are popular there, and it is quite normal to see Mexican Asians. Also in Sao Paulo, Brazil you see many Japanese descendant people. I think this is a group of Latin Americans that have been ignored.

Los peruanos y los otros latinos son gente muy alegre, te hacen sentir en familia.
Ahora vivo en Estados Unidos y francamente pienso q los asiáticos la pasan mejor (los veo más contentos, integrados, con buen caracter, etc) en LATAM q en Norte América.

There's plenty of other words we use such as siyao instead of salsa de soya, tamarindo, and even kion which in spanish is actually gengibre.

I have a coworker who is Chinese, raised in Costa Rica- so she speaks Spanish fluently and lives in Hawaii now and speaks English fluently. She has a Spanish accent, but is full on Chinese. She speaks Spanish, English and Chinese fluently.
Great video. I'm Japanese-Brazilian and 2018 is the 110th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to this country. I remember as a kid reading a weekly magazine in 1978 in which the cover story was "70th anniversary of Japanese immigration in Brazil" and mentioned that "they've come a long way and today there are about 800.000 Japanese immigrants." And as of 2018 we're like almost 3 million. Indeed a long long way. Saludos to all asian latinos around.

I am a Mexican citizen of Vietnamese parents. I think the problem really is that the US puts all its identity into ancestry. In Latin America, we who are of Asian ancestry walk around in rich neighborhoods and in poor neighborhoods and in all places inbetween and even though we look different, we don't feel we stand out because nobody says anything different, glances over, nor gets surprised if we speak Spanish or anything and in businesses we are just one more customer. It only gets surprising or shocking in the United States because of all the racial or ethnic blocs and classifications.
Years ago I remembered visiting Buenos Aires and meeting Japanese descendants who spoke perfect Spanish. Bubble was burst.
Yup - same thing happened to me and that's what prompted me to do the story!

I actually found out that from both of my parents side I have Philippines decedent. I'm Mexican and I was surprise but at the same time not since I know a lot of Asian people live in Mexico. My moms friend great grandfather was Chinese but end up marrying her great grandma who was Mexican. I'm sure a lot of us might have relatives in Asian countries.

Genetic studies show that Amerindians are an offshoot of the Asiatic N family, so, yes, technically many Hispanics/Latinos are all or almost or half Asian or have some Asian admixture in their DNA along with that of other races (it varies from person to person). It's just that this information is not well-known down south. Many people know they are mixed but they don't really know what they are exactly, hence the ignorance. Plus, as I write, DNA testing, what we have here in North America (AncestryDNA, FTDNA, 23andme, etc.), is not available in LATAM. I believe that as soon as it becomes available to the LATAM masses, perceptions will start to change. Latinos as a whole will become more aware of who they really are and this may help to reduce or even eradicate their racism towards each other ... their self-hate (we can always hope!). There is a place name Okinawa Prefecture located in southern Japan. The Japanese down there are more open to mixed relationships and marriages because of the American influence and they also have a military base where American men dating and having kids with Japanese women. If I'm not mistaking I think Okinawa Prefecture has the largest Hafu (half Japanese) in all of Japan.

You might be able to using ancestry.com -- they have a world section which researches other countries outside of the U.S. --I'm noy sure how good that part is since I've only used the site for US based searches but it might be worth a shot!

I've seen several news pieces over the years about Latin Asians but none of them mention my community, which is a shock. We were a colony of Spain for more than 300 years, governed through Mexico City during the first 200 years. There is a Spanish Creole language called Chabacano that is spoken in the Philippines today, which is a testament to our shared history with our Latin American cousins across the Pacific. Abrazos.

Most Latinos around the US are mostly thought as Mexican Mestizos to a lesser extent Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban, or El Salvadorian. While that is true that the majority of them are Mestizos that there are also White ones, Black Ones, Asian Ones, Arab Ones, Indian Ones, Native American Ones, and more

Asian Latinos get plenty of representation in Latin American media. So many celebrities that are both full blooded and mixed, which the latter is when the father is usually the Asian one.
There is a huge chinese pop in peru. My chinese church has missionaries over there to reach out to them.
I grew up with a half Polish-Jewish, half Mexican mother and a half Russian-Kazakh, half Taiwanese father. For me, I grew up with my mom, so I always identified with my Jewish and Mexican heritage. However, nowadays, I identify a lot more with my Taiwanese family as I finally got to meet them not long ago. But it’s weird, you know. Since both of my parents are half white, those genes met in me. Blue eyes, brown hair, light skin. Really the only Asian I have in me is in my face structures, and the Spanish side is pretty much impossible to notice. But I feel proud of all of it, knowing my family all struggled like hell two generations ago, fleeing countries and marrying other refugees to get where we are now.
