      Earth's radius is over 6,000 km. Russia dug a little over 12km. That is only 0.2%. To even reach 1% of towards Earth's core they will have to dig 60km. Humans are far from that.

    The deepest hole in the world; the Kola Superdeep Borehole, took about 20 years to drill one third of the way to the mantle. That is 60 years to break into the mantle, which is about 83 times bigger than the crust, so it would take 4,980 years to break through the mantle plus the additional 60 years to break the crust.2023

    • @nikushim6665
      @nikushim6665 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think you misread it. China is claiming 32,808 feet (10,000 meters), which is less than Kola's 12,262 meters. The main issue with Kola was lack of funding with constant equipment failures and supply shortages (The soviet union wasn't exactly economically stable in the 80's and it collapsed in the 91).

    I worked for Conoco and was a gas plant operator. Our (8) gas wells were into the Madison formation at 25,000 ft producing as much as 45 MMCFD each at 350F, with 66% methane, 13% H2S, and 20% C02. We didn't use inlet compression and the well pressure pushed it through the plant and into pipeline. We could choke it from 3500 psi at the well heads to 15 MM minimum (or they would hydrate) and then at the plant down to 1700psi incoming through the inlet cooling and filters, and then 1100psi plant pressure. We had 3 gas plants and I ran all but when I left I was control board operator on T3 which was the largest and sold 120 MMCFD. T1, and T2 sold around 50MM each but less in Summer due to temp limitations. I was burning 16MM H2S in my SRU with 99.9% sulfur recovery. It is quite an amazing design. Maybe they are after Methane but better be ready for the devil gas down there because1000ppm will kill you.

Does it involve special materials that can withstand the torque on such a long and heavy shaft? What special techniques are used to overcome the problem of drill weight? Typically, how often does the drill bit have to be replaced? And so on...

When they have to bring the drill bit back up out of the hole, the larger rigs can pull all of the pieces of pipe out of the hole 2 or 3 pieces at a time. A "double" can pull 2 at a time and a "triple" can pull 3. That saves a lot of time. A big triple would be used on the deeper wells of, for example, 20,000 ft. or 25,000 ft.

Most oil/gas companies hire the drilling contractor, but generally have their own people involved....usually petroleum engineers. It could be a joint venture, then you'd have a lot of people at the well site wearing clean dress shirts with hardhats, ha ha!
      The mechanical engineers do lots of work years in advance designing rigs capable of drilling deep wells.
      They've been drilling 25,000 to 30,000 ft wells for decades, so it's not impossible.
      I love the movie, but I cannot remember the title.....it's the movie about the fairly recent Gulf of Mexico offshore rig disaster starring Kurt Russell and Mark Walberg I think. That movie shows a lot of the people and equipment on such a rig. I've heard it is quite realistic. Maybe some experienced offshore people could comment here.

    As a petroleum engineer myself, we commonly drill wells of 8,000m. I mean it’s probably about 2000m vertically deep cause we don’t drill straight as we are extracting oil and gas and we need to cover a larger zone.
    It will be interesting to see what the Chinese will discover if they are drilling all the 11,000m vertically. If it’s not all vertical, I would say it’s not very new here. In Canada we have very deep wells

    Well, Russia has already drilled a deep hole in the earth's crust. It is very hot at the depth of 36,000 feet. Drilling might allow magma to break loose and may never be able to stop it from flowing.

    China has not learned from Russia or Switzerland and those scientists who heard the screams of those in Hell. They must want to unleash something.

      Yes... now China will pour cold water on the people screaming by tormenting so that the souls would cool down.

    😂😂😂😂 When you get close enough to the inner earth the Russians tell us that it got very scary. They could hear weird noises and screams and equipment kept getting damaged. They quickly sealed off that hole and got out of Dodge. All the best China 🇨🇳 Let us know if you see any fairies 🧚‍♀️ and leprechauns 🍀 🎉

      @@NoTaboos The wisdom of our ancestors which is millions of years older than your German Kindergarten, or even older than that German Neanderthal, tells us than the African believed and knew about the Afterlife, and Anubis was the Lord of the underworld. Osiris is God of the Afterlife etc. Anyways, the European is a left brain thinker, so it he can't tough it or measure it, he says it does not exist. That is outright stupidity. Year after year this left brainer announces a new discovery, which the ancients knew about millions of years ago. Case in point: The James Webb Satellite just discovered that the universe is much older than the big bang. Nothing new there. Ancients already told you that. Another laughing point. Science just discovered Sirius in the 1980s. Very boring story, because the Dogon have been saying the same thing for eons. So in conclusion, let the left brainers' dig deep holes into the underworld; and once they discover what the ancients have been telling them for generations, there will be nothing to celebrate. This is like teaching a teenager how to drive.
