    So basic Syntax can be this easy to understand? My lecturer owes me an apology for causing me to panic everytime I hear the word Syntax. Thank you so much for this.

    More than half of the information out there feels like it's made intentionally complex so the teacher can gatekeep idiots like me from understanding it. Thank you for being the outlier, and explaining things like we are people, instead of machines programed to instantly understand everything thrown at us.

      This is a university course, not a middle school or highschool class. There was actually no reason for you to learn this in school.

    • @ciobalina7445
      @ciobalina7445 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      phil osophical I doubt this has anything to do with the elites; it’s not like their children learn this in private schools; I did this at university and it’s just something theoretical that has almost no application in real life. Of course, learning grammar is important, but not this kind of course. Not to mention that you already need to know basic grammar to understand this. If you want to be part of the elites, you should focus on money making and money management. Librarities are almost free.

    • @ciobalina7445
      @ciobalina7445 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Marian Aabwi I am not sure what country you are in, but you learn morphology (nouns, verbs etc.), you do not learn Generative Grammar/syntax in the form of “phrases” (A phrase on GG is a construction where you have a head and complements, such as “eat apples”, which is a VP). You do not learn this in high school neither in a native English speaking country, nor for ESL for sure as this is college level material. What he did in the first part was a revision of middle school and high school level material which is usually not done in college anymore and because of this students have a hard time understanding the material. So yes, you do the first part, but the actual syntax part you don’t. You probably didn’t even understand what he was explaining very well as he didn’t provide an explanation. This is an extremely short/easy introduction to Generative Transformational Theory and X-bar theory. In the following videos he will start doing the actual material, which is tree diagrams. This was just a revision of school knowledge.

I'm a TESOL major and I have sat in my class starring at my professor ... like what the hell is he saying.... ??? I will watch your videos to understand my class. I took syntax one, but syntax two is more advance and we need to do tree branching. Thanks again.

    This is just for my notes purpose in case I have to reference during my exam:
    A sentence consists of a [NOUN PHRASE] and a [VERB PHRASE] always
    A noun phrase consists of (a determiner) (adjective) [NOUN] (prepositional phrase)
    --- caps means always
    A prepositional phrase consists of [PREPOSITION] and a [NOUNPHRASE]
    A verb phrase consists of a [VERB] (noun phrase) (prepositional phrase) (adverb)
    in caps means they always have to be there, lower case in parenthesis means they are optional but most of the time are present. But not required to make the phrase whole.
    Thank you.
