this was a well taught lecture in 14mins you have taught what i failed to understand during my four years study at university, now i have my confidence back. Thank you very much you are truly a blessing .we need people like you in society
Pride and ego in university teachers does not allow them to reach out and actually teach. They just read or repeat a text book, no digesting and processing.
He managed to explain everything clearly in under 15 Minutes meanwhile my professor at university didn’t even achieve that in 2 hours. Thank you so much 😭❤️
Only God can reward you teacher. You can not imagine the good you did for me. I learnt morphology at university. Before going to school I listen your videos and sincerely I understood the course. Thanks 😊😊 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕.
I wanted to drop out of university because I didn't understand anything in my English class which is one of my core modules but now I understand so much. Thank you so much.😢😢
Perfect lecture!!!!I have understood everthing that I could not comprehend in my class. As a PhD student I've started enjoying linguistic studies. Our professsor should come here to listen to you:))) Thank you so much.

Amazing! I study English at university, and I wish my native language had as few inflectional morphemes as English has >< Thank you so much ! This class helped me a lot
I truly have to thank you. I am taking a linguistics course that I do not understand whatsoever. I thought that I would have to take the course again and lose $2000. I have been close to panic attacks. Because you have posted these lessons, I am able to understand linguistics. I seriously cannot thank you enough. You are wonderful.
I have a morphology exam next week and actually I haven't studied enough. Found this video and my doubts related to these mentioned concepts are gone. Thank you so much. You are an amazing teacher.
I just had my first lecture on morphology in University and left confused, lost and bewildered. You explained this 500% clearer, more concisely and with a clarity far easier to understand than my professor. Thank you!

Thanks a million. Just in 14 mins your video seems to summary all things that I were taught in class. At first, it was difficult for my and my classmates to understand thoroughly my lesson, but when I saw this video, it was easy to follow and learn.
I surely get alot of confidence in myself after your teaching and solve myself first ,the exercises you give, they surprisingly come out true ,it means your teaching skills are the next level Sir🌟

Your way of teaching is amazing sir ! I desire to learn more through your precious videos. Could you please make videos covering almost all areas of linguistics . It would be extremely beneficial for all your learners. Thanks.
Good evening sir, to be honest, it was a spectacular presentation about that specific linguistics item. Well organised and pretty informative. KEEP AMAZING WORK UP.
Thank you! Just started an online phonetics class for speech pathology and there are no lectures to accompany the reading and quizzes! I felt so confused. This helped so much. I’ll be searching for phonemes now!

Worth to watch the 14 minute video. I will use this as my reference in reporting about morphology.. Thank you so much and more educational videos from you.. Keep it up:) Kudos
Thank you so much! I maybe late but I'm glad I find this it really helped me to understand as I am now a first year college majoring in English and we are not able to have our face-to-face class and have a discussion because of this pandemic. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you it made me easier to understand ou lesson.
Thank you so much for the simplicity expressed in this series of yours from parts 1 - 3. I was able to comprehend at a faster rate and I'm sure this will get to stick more compared to reading from textbooks and lecture rooms. However, I have a few questions to ask in which I would be glad if I receive simplicity in explanations. 1. What are morphs? 2. Differences between morph and morpheme with instances or examples 3. 'All prefixes in English are derivational morphemes, but not all derivational morphemes in English are prefixes' can you please explain more on this, with examples Thank you once again, sir, await your speed answer..
Hello! In answering your questions: 1 and 2) Morphs are phonetically realized forms of morphemes. Morphemes only exist in the abstract, as a psychological reality (think of the meaning of the "plural" morpheme, for example), but a morph is an actual pronunciation of that morpheme (e.g., the [z] in "dogs" vs. the [s] in "cats". However, the morph that is used is often determined by phonological environments (the surrounding sounds), so they are often competing against other morphs in the set, or "allomorphs", so "morphs" son't really get discussed that much in linguistics. 3) Any prefix in English is a derivational morpheme (e.g., the "pre" in "prefix" helps to create a new word and changes the lexical category from verb ("fix") to noun (prefix). However, there are other derivational morphemes in English, but they don't have to be prefixes. One example is the "al" in "national". This suffix is derivational because it creates a new word (nation vs national) and changes the lexical category from noun (nation) to an adjective (national). I hope that helps!
Hello everyone, welcome--thanks for joining us. Today we'll be discussing the concept of morphology, or the study or forms in linguistics. More specifically, morphology is the study of the internal structure of words in a language. So this is part 1 of a multiple part series in morphology and in this video we will be discussing the concept of a morpheme, as well as distinguishing between different types of morphemes--difference between free morphemes and bound morphemes, lexical morphemes and functional morphemes, as well as the difference between derivational and inflectional morphemes. So before we do any of that, let's talk about the fundamental concept in morphology: the morpheme. So, a morpheme is the smallest meaningful unit in a language. A morpheme cannot be broken down into any smaller meaningful bits--just individual sounds or sound sequences, which, in and of themselves, are meaningless. Now you might think that the word is the smallest meaningful unit in a language, but any given word may be composed of more than one meaningful element. For example, consider the word "cats". Now "cats" is clearly one word in English, but it has 2 morphemes: "cat" plus "-s". So we all know what a "cat" means; it's furry, it has paws, whiskers, it meows, it vomits on the carpet, but there is this "-s" suffix, which is also meaningful because it denotes "plural" or "more than one". Therefore, "cats" has 2 morphemes. Let's take another word--how about "category". Now "category" has just one morpheme. Don't be fooled by the size of the word. "Category" cannot be broken down into any smaller meaningful bits. Now you might say, "wait a minute, doesn't the word 'category' have the word 'cat' in it?" And it does--that's a good observation. However, the meaning of the word "cat" has nothing to do with the meaning of the word "category" in English; therefore, we conclude that "category" has just 1 morpheme. Similarly, you might notice that "category" has the word "gory" in it, but, again, the meaning of the word "gory" has nothing to do with the meaning of "category", so, again, we must say that "category" has just 1 morpheme. Here's a tip: anytime you're looking at a word in a language and you're trying to determine how many morphemes are present in that word, ask yourself, "does the sum of the parts equal the meaning of the whole?" If the answer is yes, then there is likely more than 1 morpheme. If the answer is no, there's probably just 1 morpheme. Let's take another word. How about "categorize". Now this word has 2 morphemes
this was a well taught lecture in 14mins you have taught what i failed to understand during my four years study at university, now i have my confidence back. Thank you very much you are truly a blessing .we need people like you in society

Thanks for this lecture sir. You have cleared my confusion.
Thank you so much for the simplicity expressed in this series of yours from parts 1 - 3.
