There are essentially two tiers of super cars. "True" supercars, like Lambos, Ferraris etc. Basically cars made by companies that pretty much only focus on supercars that cost well into the 6 figure range. (ignore the Lamborghini suv) Then you have the practically supercars like Z06, or the R35. Basically cars that like supercars are pretty much all about the performance. But the difference is the cost way less, and they are made by normal car manufacturers. So the what makes a supercar is pretty made based on price, and exclusivity. But on a practical level I'd call the Z06 a supercar. Because yeah if it performs like one, costs a boatload of money, and makes kids and other people who are only just getting into cars go "Whoa it's a -blank-" it's a supercar.
Because people don't consider a car a supercar unless it has rarity, exclusivity, unobtainability, luxury, blah, literally every fancy word that ends with -ity. These are all things real enthusiasts don't give a shit about. And the lack of all those factors make this car awesome in its own way.
I guess that it's a Chevy. I asked something similar a while back; why is the Countach still considered a supercar. The best answer I got was that cars should be judged for their year. Other answers made me think people just choose what is and isn't a super/hypercar. I suppose if a C6 could be considered one, Gallardo owners would feel less special. But I think it passes the qualifications.
Slightly off-topic, but I've been to Germany on multiple occasions (I used to speak German fluently, but unfortunately my German's a bit rusty since I hadn't visited in nearly 15 years). Anyway, I was highly amused that Germans seem to think that NYC is the epicenter of the US. Upon hearing I'm an American, Germans would ask me "are you from New York?" Me - No. German person looks a bit disappointed, then comes the next questions, "have you ever visited New York?" Me - No. German person looks really disappointed. I got asked this so frequently. I presume that because so many Hollywood movies take place in NYC, Germans have the impression that everyone either lives there, or at the least frequently visits there.
You failed to mention the little fact that Z06 was really a homologation special for GM to build a Le Mans legend that won the world's biggest race in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and dominated countless national, regional and international championships along the way. Z06 will forever be a legend because it spawned the C6.R. And as far as American achievements in international racing are concerned, C6.R is only second to Ford GT40. That says it all. And yeah, that is a very sports car, something that we won't be allowed to enjoy for much longer, before driving itself falls victim to regulations brought by the autonomous trend and the nightmare of corporate liability that it entails.

I bought the car for 1) The killer looks (mine is Victory Red, which really brings out the lines), 2) that sweet, revvy LS7, and 3) the miata-on-steroids handling. I didn't understand why he was rambling on about unfulfilled expectations -- I don't think any owner gives give a flying f**k whether the car actually does 200mph (I certainly don't). And I definitely didn't get the whole likening-it-to-a-himbo thing.

keeping fresh rubber on the rear is key...like new tires every 8000 miles or less. The 6.3 LS3 is easier to live with for a daily C6, but even those need new tires to keep from spinning.

Ok but for proper reference, when the C6 Z06 came out the base corvette had a 6.2 and the ZR1 did not exist. It was the King of Corvettes for a few years. And that Z06 had the only factory wide body kit and better suspension goodies. Manual transmission ONLY. A real track car.
I drove one of these recently. It turned and stopped like nothing I've driven before. And it just felt so..... connected and responsive. But in the video you can see that it barely fits on those narrow PA back roads. And even on Houston's open roads, my overwhelming impression was that the car is too W I I I I I D D D E E E.
Ya know other than it's factory CNC ported heads, titanium connecting rods, titanium del west sourced intake valves and dry sump oil system (yes, 3 years before the ZR1), the entirely, nothing at all in common with the C5, new aluminum chassis that the ZR1 mostly utilized (3 years later), the vehicle design awards the body style won, the extensive use of lightweight alloys and composites that most cars regardless of price didn't utilize at the time, the racing program that literally destroyed, dismantled and ENDED a class in ALMS that it shared components with, the mind-bendingly light traverse composite leaf rear suspension that this car perfected, and it's nearly unparalleled aerodynamics for the era, yeah it's just the middle Corvette

3:13 I always found it odd how the C6 had a speedometer that switches increments halfway through. It marks every 10mph from 0-100 but switches to every 20mph from 100-200. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another car that did that.

@The Legend 27 Returns to TH-cam it had all the neccesary packages,the standard one which is a good daily driver, the z06 which gives a bit more umph, and the zr1 which is when you never have enough power. it was also an upgrade from the c4 and the c5 so it's got them beat in my books (c4 was slow and the c5 was cheap at least interior wise) and at the same time it's not trying to appeal to Europeans like the c7 and the c8. The pre c4 corvette's these days are novelty items, nice, but a bit flimsy and hard to use in every day life.

It is the best corvette, the zr1 is just barely faster. Slap a low boost supercharger on the z06 and it eats the zr1 c6 and it’s still cheaper even if you go fully forged.

The 6th generation Z-06 was the car the really cemented the ls engines legend. 500+ hp naturally aspirated. When that thing came out no other manufacturers could claim numbers anywhere near what the ls7 was making, hell the mustang had just cracked the 300hp mark the same year. Today it’s nothing special to over 500hp but we needed the Z-06 and by extension the ls7 to get to where we are

Ya know other than it's factory CNC ported heads, titanium connecting rods, titanium del west sourced intake valves and dry sump oil system (yes, 3 years before the ZR1), the entirely, nothing at all in common with the C5, new aluminum chassis that the ZR1 mostly utilized (3 years later), the vehicle design awards the body style won, the extensive use of lightweight alloys and composites that most cars regardless of price didn't utilize at the time, the racing program that literally destroyed, dismantled and ENDED a class in ALMS that it shared components with, the mind-bendingly light traverse composite leaf rear suspension that this car perfected, and it's nearly unparalleled aerodynamics for the era, yeah it's just the middle Corvette

3:13 I always found it odd how the C6 had a speedometer that switches increments halfway through. It marks every 10mph from 0-100 but switches to every 20mph from 100-200. I don’t think I’ve ever seen another car that did that.

@The Legend 27 Returns to TH-cam it had all the neccesary packages,the standard one which is a good daily driver, the z06 which gives a bit more umph, and the zr1 which is when you never have enough power. it was also an upgrade from the c4 and the c5 so it's got them beat in my books (c4 was slow and the c5 was cheap at least interior wise) and at the same time it's not trying to appeal to Europeans like the c7 and the c8. The pre c4 corvette's these days are novelty items, nice, but a bit flimsy and hard to use in every day life.

It is the best corvette, the zr1 is just barely faster. Slap a low boost supercharger on the z06 and it eats the zr1 c6 and it’s still cheaper even if you go fully forged.

The 6th generation Z-06 was the car the really cemented the ls engines legend. 500+ hp naturally aspirated. When that thing came out no other manufacturers could claim numbers anywhere near what the ls7 was making, hell the mustang had just cracked the 300hp mark the same year. Today it’s nothing special to over 500hp but we needed the Z-06 and by extension the ls7 to get to where we are

Doesn't the standard model have an LS3 not LS2? The older models had Ls2's, but the newer ones like this 2011 would have had the LS3
